There wasn't much they could do for the sting but pain and anxiety meds. Pain should go down in about 24 hours. For children they do a lot more monitoring and will administer anti venom, but it's super expensive (like $60,000) and most adults don't need it.

@JJMNO1616 Yay on finding a new mattress!!! My hubby has been DYING for a new mattress. We have had our current one for 5 years and he has basically hated it since about 6 months in. He told me today that the process for finding a new one will be arduous because he is going to make us test approximately 18 million before choosing

@grnmtnmama My DH and I couldn't agree until we laid on the one we bought and then we both knew it was "the one" right away. I like a softer bed and he likes firm so we kept going back and forth but the tempurpedic was a perfect compromise. It also has this awesome cooling technology which I'm hoping will decrease our arguments about the AC. lol!
@Sailing_Mama I am so, so sorry to hear that. MH's uncle who he is very close with had a stroke in 2010 and it was a tough road, but he is actually doing really well now now that he has adapted and been through speech and occupational therapy. It was hard at the beginning, but he really does feel like himself now. So much luck and love to your dad and to you
@Sailing_Mama I am so sorry about your dad. FX that he regains a lot of function in the coming days.
@grnmtnmama What would YH think about getting barn cats? Our shelters here have programs for mostly feral cats where you just agree to provide shelter for them (barn/garage/other outdoor arrangements are okay), feed 'em & do your best to get them in for their shots close to on schedule. Sometimes I really wish MH weren't allergic so we could have one but then also sometimes my parents' cats do horrible things and I'm a little glad it's not an option. I hope that this either fixes YH's desire to get a dog now or you're able to find the right dog. Maybe just remind him that a bad match is dangerous for both DS and the dog.
@JJMNO1616 We have whatever the hardest Tempurpedic is (we started with one level softer & not the cooling and the whole thing was a squishy, sweaty mess). The memory foam beds tend to run warm so I think the cooling is necessary. I love it for all the things but the lack of motion transfer is one of my favorites. MH can get up in the night & I sleep clear through it. Unlike our old bed where I would wake up every time he turned over.

@doxiemoxie212@kiki75 For anyone who is allergic just an FYI that the shots DO work. MH is 2 years in and he used to be a wreck around cats for even a short period of time and now he can have one on his lap for 30 minutes before sneezing uncontrollably, which is a big improvement. The main thing is you have to be living in the same place/have the same health insurance for 4 years. You need shots every 2 weeks at first, but then you have less over time and he's now at 6 weeks.
@vflux33 DH is actually considering it, but I think if he's going to spend all that time (and likely money because deductibles), he should get shots for his deathly allergy to tree nuts lol. but the dog wants a cat!
@doxiemoxie212 If you think that you guys are moving cross country within a year, which I know is a strong possibility for you given previous conversations, he should just wait. The allergist makes, like, a special allergy cocktail shot just for you and it would be super hard to switch allergy doctors mid-treatment (MH waited to get the shots for years for the same reason).
@doxiemoxie212 - I don't think they have immunotherapy for tree nut or any other food allergies. It's more for seasonal, pet, or outdoor allergies. I started immunotherapy primarily due to the hives I was getting from dust mites, but couldn't get past the smallest dosage without having a severe reaction. Fortunately, I'm not allergic to dogs or cats, though.

@pebbledam MH has a big problem with dust mites too--it's in his cocktail shot (Which is good because I was trying really hard to wash everything in scalding hot water to help keep him from being sick all the time and it was NOT working).
@vflux33 - Yeah, a few years ago we were having our basement re-finished due to sewage damage and as soon as it got too cold to leave the windows open all of the construction dust was coating everything in the house. That's when the hives started. I think I'd be ok doing the immunotherapy now, but at the time my body was already in a heightened state of reactivity. Hand hives are painful.

@pebbledam Oh wow--MH didn't have hives-- I had no idea that was even a thing. We had no construction issues, but we went from a very new building with no carpet to renting an old farm-y house in the country and he was just sneezing and having bad asthma all the time. Since we no longer had a cat we had no idea what was going on. When he got the skin prick test at the allergist he tested "off the charts" (according to the nurse) for cats and dust mites. Hives sound really shitty!

@Sailing_Mama I'm so sorry about your dad. I know this had to be hard on you and your family right now. I'll be sending thoughts and prayers your way.
@JJMNO1616 I'm so excited that you are getting a tempurpedic! They are AMAZING! We've had one for a little over two years and it was the best money we've ever spent. We didn't opt for the cool layer and neither of us have found it to run hot. Are you getting the Tempurpedic pillows too? You must. They are expensive, but totally worth it. We did get the cool layer on the pillows, which we really like, just because who doesn't love a perma cool pillow?
AFM we have guests this weekend and have been cooking, chilling, and drinking. I snuck off early tonight to go to bed though because I'm tired. Tomorrow we're smoking a pork shoulder all day. Yum.
@Sailing_Mama, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad! Sounds like it's been a rough time for him and your family! My thoughts and prayers are with you guys!
@icecubeinthedesert, ahhhh! I don't consider myself "girly" when it comes to bugs. I don't love spiders, but I'm okay to kill one in my house. Scorpions, on the other hand, nope!! I'm in GA and there are some native here (nothing dangerous), but nope McNoperson! I'm terrified of them! We had one in our house when we first moved in and I really wanted to move! On your more serious note, I hope your husband feels better!
I'm jealous of all this cat talk! I always had cats growing up. When DH and I started dating, I had a cat that he said he "tolerated" because we were dating. He says he doesn't like cats even though he often cuddled with my cat and also often stopped to pet a neighborhood cat. We have 2 dogs so a cat isn't in the cards but I miss having one.
AFM, I've been working in my yard the past few days. We've seriously neglected it so I did a lot of weeding and trimming bushes. I also put down some mulch and am really happy with it so far. I need to finish a few things but it's already pleased with it! It feels nice to drive home to a nicely landscaped home!
@kbamomma33 Yes! We both got the Tempurpedic pillow with the gel too! Our bed actually came with $300 credit to buy pillows and a mattress protector so they were "free". Now I just have to buy bedding for a king sized bed. I can't decide what look I want to go for.
@kiki75 I have suggested a barn cat to him. We live in the perfect spot to have some barn cats too - middle of nowhere and a huge garage for shelter. The prospect of cats keeping mice away ALMOST convinced him but he still gives a hard pass lol.

We have a white, I don't know what the word is... rouched maybe, duvet cover that I actually got at target. I really like it because it brightens up our room and makes it feel hotelish. Plus, it's really easy to change the look with different throw pillows because anything matches it. I love white duvet covers. We've got a plain white one in our guest room too. Target FTW for bedding IMO!
@JJMNO1616 We found our king sized bedding on Rue La La for a great deal. We went with white sheets and a grey duvet. Simple but you can make it more fun with colorful throw pillows!

@JJMNO1616 - Also on the Target train here, Target has what they call "performance sheets,'" which makes me giggle, but they are really awesome. They are soft and cool to sleep on and they NEVER come off at the corner and even have little "side" and "top/bottom" tags sewn into the hem.

@grnmtnmama Cats are amazing hunters. I found a huge centipede in my bathroom this morning. I almost freaked out but then I realized it was already dead, thanks to my cat.
DH comes home for his visit in just under 7 weeks. I've already planned out our dinner for the first night he's home (steak and scallops with champagne butter sauce), and I'm making him a belated birthday cake (lemon cake with mixed berry buttercream), since his birthday is tomorrow. I'm going to make it as cupcakes first, to test it out. I suppose I'll bring those to work, since I don't need a dozen cupcakes for myself. Or I can try to eat 12 cupcakes by myself.

@kbamomma33@grnmtnmama So funny because this is exactly what I have been leaning towards. I found this picture on pinterest last night and it made me fall in love with the pillows/patterns.
I think I may do a textured/rouched white duvet and colorful pillows. Maybe even sheets with a pattern. We bought a grey tuffed headboard off Wayfair and I want to do a grey bench at the bottom of the bed.
Decorating is so fun but it's hard to make a decision!
A good friend of mine just got her 23andme back and we decided to use the compare function for fun and it turns out we're distant cousins. We have a similar ethnic background, but had no idea. So weird!
I've been on TB for over 2 years and never knew this. Thank you!! I would write major long GTKY responses and lose them and not want to be a rando who jumps into the convo without a proper intro.
