Yep yep yep. I think it's because when you're making an expensive decision you tend to have emotional ties to your choice so it's easier. The cheaper stuff isn't as exciting.
Idk. I'm feeling pretty emotionally tied to these damn swaddles. Which will be best for photo shoots? Which will go best with the thousands of hair accessories I'm going to buy? Which patterns look best together (why this matters, no clue, but it does)?
I have issues.
October 2017 June Siggy Challenge -- "You Had One Job!"
i feel like the $17 choice will make or break my life. and then i go to check out and i am like $5 in shipping?!?! can i really make this purchase still?!?! meanwhile 4 hours earlier i just dropped $200 on a mailbox post easy peasy.
when we renovated our kitchen i was throwing thousands out the window selecting stuff. then it came to the $100 faucet and it literally look me days to decide. and i still made the wrong choice
I don't like playing with my kids. I like to go do activities with them, even though I know it will be stressful, but sitting down and playing is not my thing. The only reason I am looking forward to summer break is so my 3yo has her brother and sister to play with all day so I don't have to. I was always that kid that preferred playing alone and it's rolled over into adult hood apparently
i dont think that @soprano19 seriously we have all been there, and what i was trying to say is "naiveness" makes you a better mother, bc you quickly learn you dont have all the answers and you gain empathy in ways you never thought you would. and it is good to have ideas of what you will and won't do. they will probably change, but it is good to have some idea of direction where you want to go. being a FTM is a right of passage, you make your own rules...well your kid will make their own rules hahaha and you just figure it out. don't have a bitter old soul yet, enjoy this time and be naive! every and i mean EVERY FTM is, myself included. i still am naive about what is ahead.
there are certain people in this world that drive me crazy (cough cough SIL) i act like a sanctimommy around her just because. "oh no thank you, i dont need that sunscreen...my kids use the chemical free arbonne one" meanwhile they are drinking bug spray in the corner.

I Just had a vision of kids drinking our of bug spray bottles. Lol
@soprano19 motherhood is something that you just can't understand until you're in it, there's no way around that. As a FTM, there are always these images you have in your head about what it will be like, what you will be like as a mom, how you will handle things. A few of those may turn out, but the reality is, you figure it out as you go. Even as your kids grow, you think of the things you will and won't do and how it will be. They usually turn out way differently. I have an 8yo and I look back and think "remember when you said you wouldn't let them use technology like this?? Lolololol".
I don't like trying to scare FTMs, I think it's mean. But I also prefer to be honest. It sucks a lot of days. And it's not because of just the kid(s). It's because you're trying to do so much all at once and it's hard to find a balance that works. It's natural to assume that you'll love being with your kids and you won't want anyone's help because you wanted them, you had them, they're all your responsibility. But once you're in it, you realize you can't do it by yourself and you need a break. Being a parent all day is not good for anyone, you need to be able to take care of yourself too, so when a SAHM complains about having their kids home all day, it's because she knows she's not going to get the break she needs to make her a good mom.
Yesss why are the pricey things to buy so easy and effortless for me, but choosing toilet paper is a 10 minute ordeal?!
@soprano19 I dont think you will be a terrible mother at all! I don't think it is possible for all of us to agree or think the same way as each other, and it would be boring if we did. All I saw yesterday was a bunch of ladies having a conversation about their unpopular opinions.
fffc: I sometimes am more excited about buying something, then actually having it. I have bought things for my camera that were just for fun, and the week waiting for it to arrive is like Christmas. As soon as I get it, I might not even open it for another week. Not sure what is wrong with me. I think I like the "high" from buying things.

i deft have that shopping high! packages will sit on the counter for weeks bc i dont want to be bothered with it. but for some reason i HAD to make that purchase on May 12th, May 13th would be far too late.
it's always an urgent matter in the moment. DH is like that when we go to any electronics store. If it's in a clearance rack, he needs it NOW. It may not be needed for another 2 years, but we needed to save that $.50 on that $7 part.

i dont really feed my kids breakfast. i just have a couple pouches by the bed and have them watch TV and eat those while i get ready...then we rush out the door. i mean they have snack first thing when they get to school so i know they are not going hungry. plus those things are packed with fruits and veggies so you could say i am mother of the year.
*Related to FTM topic* I am really excited/curious (and a little scared) about what motherhood will be like compared to how I envision it in my head. Like what things I always said I would/wouldn't do. I know nothing ever goes how we plan it, so it's kind of exciting to not know, if that makes sense. It's like I'm fixing to enter the Abyss (a happy and chaotic one).

@carries2018 dh and I were just talking last night about summer and figuring out lunches. I stopped and laughed and told him "haha yeah right. They eat whatever they want all damn day, I won't have to worry about lunch".
He is up with them in the mornings and he said they don't really eat breakfast. They might have a frozen waffle, but we're not a big breakfast family. We will do pancakes and waffles on Sundays, but other than that, it's just grab whatever and go.
@ChocolateIsLife i still do that. like i stayed up for like 2 hours the other night thinking about how i am going to handle high school related topics (drinking sex drugs driving). and imagining what they will be like/what i will be like by then.
@sjohns908 +1 to hating play! I am always taking my 3 yo out to do things because it's way for fun for me. I'd rather go to the zoo everyday than sit on the floor with legos
ladt night I went to a concert featuring Boyz II Men, Paula Abdul and NKOTB. It was simultaneously hilarious and amazing.

i hope my kids are not popular or have boyfriends/girlfriends too soon. not bc i am worried about boyfriends/girlfreinds...i mean i am. but i was prob average/below average in popularity in HS and didnt have boyfriends. and even though it was hard at the time, i am so grateful for that. i figured out myself and had fun with friends. by the time i got to college i went from boyfriend to boyfriend and really wasnt single again. i am glad at such a young age i wasn't too caught up in hunkering down with a "love" and just enjoyed my experience. and i think a lot of added stress comes with being popular, especially for girls.
@carries2018 same here. DD usually has some type of fruit in the mornings before daycare, then has snack first thing when she gets there. I'm a little worried for this summer when she's home with DH though. He's not great about sticking to a snack and meal schedule.

That stage for teenagers honestly gives me anxiety. DH grew up doing whatever he wanted, and his mom let them do whatever drugs as long as it was in the house (won't elaborate on this board). He is now at the complete opposite spectrum and doesn't want to put our children in that position ever, but he gets anxious that we are going to have a daughter in high school.

Sometimes when I'm switching between this and the PG, I check my inbox thinking maybe I'm cool enough for someone to PM me something other than a rando talking about a maternity dress they bought.

I was just thinking about this the other day. I distinctly remember in middle/high school thinking "if I have a daughter someday I will make her be a cheerleader so she will be popular!" Uggggh definitely not what I'm thinking now.
I was so absorbed into Orchestra my entire jr. high/high school experience and I'm pretty sure that is what kept me grounded. My parents were out of town a lot, so I feel like I could have easily gotten away with whatever. I pretty much was born a homebody though so they lucked out I guess. I'm hoping that our daughter will have enough activities that she is passionate about, and not get caught up with cliques or popularity.

Also I'm glad I'm not the only one that hates playing with their kid haha the grandparents come over and play all these games with her and I'm just like....how do you do this?! I blame it on the fact I see DDs face 24/7.
