Two Gestational Sacs, One Baby

So at my ultrasound earlier this week the technician found two sacs. One had a healthy normal measuring baby in it with a strong heartbeat and the other was empty. Has anyone had experience with this? I forget whether or not there was a yolk sac...I'll update when DH responds to me.

I have been reading up on other instances and not sure if there is a possibility of a twin...freaking out a bit lol.

  • I do not have any experience with this but hugs! I'm glad there was one healthy normal baby with a strong heartbeat regardless!  :)

  • @EmilyLove25 We are happy, but I'm just really curious about the empty one.

  • With my twins there was a third empty sac it never developed into anything and eventually we didn't see it anymore.
  • My Aug 2015 baby was a case of "vanishing twin". We had a really early US (I think 5 or 6 weeks) and had 2 gestational sacs, 2 yolks, and 2 heart beats. One of the gestational sacs was smaller than the other. When we went back for a routine US at 13 weeks, my DD was showing as a healthy fetus, and the other sac was empty. Her twin had stopped developing within a few short weeks of us learning there were two of them. Eventually the other sac was reabsorbed, and was not visible during our anatomy scan.

  • I had bleeding at 6w with my last pregnancy and was sent for an u/s. They radiologist said he was either looking at two sacks, with one empty (a vanishing twin) or a SCH. At the time he was pretty certain it was vanishing twin. Subsequent u/s confirmed it was a SCH.

  • @BelhurstBride Well they never mentioned that, and so far no bleeding.
