1. My EDD based on LMP is jan 23. 2. I don't care if I go early, I won't go late though, the drs won't let me due to my babies being too big for me to birth. 3. My first delivery was a vaginal with problems due to baby's size 9.7 lbs, second was an emergency c section due to baby becoming lodged in my pelvis 9.1lbs so likely they will tecommend a repeat c section and likely I'll still attempt a vaginal birth if it's safe !
1. What is your EDD and do you prefer to go early, late, right on that date or don't care? EDD (based on LMC) is Jan 12th. Date is actually perfect as long as I can get all of my end of year reports done for work, we typically aren't busy again until April. Insurance doesn't really affect my situation since myboutbof pocket max isn't that high and it would be the same either before or after (assuming they don't go up in 2018).
2. How do you plan to deliver? I have chosen a birthing center instead of a hospital (Baby + Co) for a natural birth (maybe water birth) using Certified Nurse Midwives. A few of them have hospital privileges so if I had to switch to a hospital they could assist the OB. The delivery rooms look like a spa and a typical stay is 4 - 6 hours after birth and then you can go home with baby! They also do the 2-day visit at your house so you can just relax and bond with baby at home.
3. Do you worry about not making it to to hospital due to snow/ice since it will be Jan? I live in NC and although we do get some icy weather, it typically happens in February. The birthing center is about 15-20 mins from my house and 30-40 mins from work so I'm sure it'll be fine.
@tgortney Hi! No, the one in Cary! Close though... I was just in Charlotte a couple weekends ago enjoying Beer Bourbon & BBQ festival... the weekend before I found out I was KU... whoops
1. Right now I am guessing EDD is 1/6. Since we are late to this party and have our first appointment this week we will then know for sure. This is #3 And I am hoping to go early.
2. I expect to go early, DD1 was late and DD2 was 2 days early. My mom's bday is 12/25 And my grandma's is 12/27. It would be great if LO would share on of their birthdays. Taxes and insurance would be a bonus.
3. Would like to have a vaginal birth with either a spinal or medication free.
4. Yes, but I have fast labors. Dd1 was 8 hours top to bottom with being induced, DD2 was four hours and we were only at the hospital 1.5 hrs before she arrived. Very nervous we will cut labor time in half again and it will be 2 hours.
1. What is your EDD and do you hope to go early, late, right on that date, or don't care? EDD is 1/8/18. Right now I don't really care about when I go into labor, but I think I'll probably go early.
2. If you want to go early, is it due to insurance reasons (avoid resetting your premiums), tax purposes, want a late Dec baby or an early Feb instead, etc? While the insurance and taxes are incentives, I have FVL and will be closely monitored at the end of my pregnancy for placental deterioration so I kind of expect to be induced before 40 weeks, especially so close to the holidays.
3. How do you plan to deliver? If rcs, does your office typically schedule at 39w or 38w? I really wanted a birth center birth but between the monitoring I'll need and the fact that the midwives are out of network with my insurance, I'll be in the hospital. Natural vs epidural will depend on if I get induced or not!
4. Do you worry about not making it to the hospital on time due to snow/ice since it will be Jan? Somewhat, but our winters have been mild recently and DH is the best driver I know.
1. What is your EDD and do you hope to go early, late, right on that date, or don't care?
My due date is 13 January and I don't really care too much.
2. If you want to go early, is it due to insurance reasons (avoid resetting your premiums), tax purposes, want a late Dec baby or an early Feb instead, etc?
For tax/insurance purposes it would be cool to deliver in Dec, but I really don't want birthdays to blend with Christmas so I'm happy to be on time or late as well.
3. How do you plan to deliver? If rcs, does your office typically schedule at 39w or 38w?
Ugh. I'm so torn on this one!!! My dream would be to deliver in a hospital with my midwife and zero interventions...but there's no real way to do that. I really like the idea of a home birth because I'm healthy, not low risk and have never had problems with female organs. My periods were mild and so regular that I'd start wearing a pad the day my app said I would start. I also got pregnant the one and only night/morning we tried. So I really trust my body to do the right thing. Not being in or right near a hospital freaks me out though. What if something comes up that a hospital setting is needed for right now? *TW* I don't want to drive 20 minutes hemorrhaging or with a distressed/not breathing baby, ya know? *end TW* But then on the other hand what if I can't say no to interventions that cause problems themselves? I've been looking to see if there are hotel rooms on any hospital campus in my area even! I don't know...any input? @KatieEl how did you decide on a home birth?
4. Do you worry about not making it to the hospital on time due to snow/ice since it will be Jan?
@caeilievalor I decided on a home birth on the advice of the medical professionals who attended me with DS2. I've had two very fast intervention free/unmedicated vaginal births in the hospital (with midwives!). And since DS2 came so quickly, an hour-ish of active labor, less than two hours between first contraction to baby, everyone agreed it would be safer for me/baby to have a planned home birth next time, instead of an unplanned home birth, which is what I almost had last time. I'm also really lucky that theres an extremely trusted nurse midwife in my community who attends home births. She's very well respected among the doctors and nurses who do birth work here, so I know I'm in good hands.
May I ask why it is you feel that a hospital birth with midwives isn't an option for you? That's becoming increasingly common. Are there no midwife hospital practices in your community?
DS1: Nov. 2013 DS2: Jan. 2016 DS3: Dec. 2017 Baby #4 on the way!
@KatieEl Thanks for the info! A birth in a hospital with midwifes is an option for me, but I don't know exactly if the procedures are in alignment with what I want. Apparently if I go into a hospital they automatically put an IV in my arm which I don't really like. I need to find out what else they automatically do and what happens if I refuse what they offer. I know I don't want pitocin or an epidural, but what happens if they say I need it and I still don't want it? Can they just inject stuff into the IV anyway? Of course I'll do interventions if things are getting risky, but I'm afraid of having interventions before they are necessary.
@caeilievalor I'd meet with the midwife practice and ask them some questions. Neither practice I was with did IVs, both required heplocks in case of emergency (I only got one with DS1, not enough time with DS2). I'd be surprised if midwives encouraged pitocin or epidurals without very good reason, but you can ask about their rates of use. I'd recommend a doula and a good "natural" childbirth class to help you learn what your options are and how to advocate for yourself. They're not going to do things to you without your consent, but some hospitals can/do pressure you. You may be able to get a good idea of midwife philosophy by meeting with them.
DS1: Nov. 2013 DS2: Jan. 2016 DS3: Dec. 2017 Baby #4 on the way!
@KatieEl I'm going to do that! Thank you! And I'm hoping that this midwife practice sees things the same way as I do. They work with a lot of OB's so we shall see. I'll keep you posted and thanks again.
1. What is your EDD and do you hope to go early, late, right on that date, or don't care? Jan 28. That is my birthday, so it would be kind of cool to have the baby that day. But if not, I would rather go early. DD was a week late and that extra week felt like a YEAR.
2. If you want to go early, is it due to insurance reasons (avoid resetting your premiums), tax purposes, want a late Dec baby or an early Feb instead, etc? I guess the insurance thing is a consideration, but for me, going in Dec would mean baby being at least a month early, which isn't ideal, obv. Mid to late Jan is fine with me.
3. How do you plan to deliver? If rcs, does your office typically schedule at 39w or 38w? Hopefully another vaginal delivery, but without the complications from last time (high bp, induction, forceps, etc). I would like to labor as long as possible without meds but realistically, I'm pretty sure I'll need an epidural.
4. Do you worry about not making it to the hospital on time due to snow/ice since it will be Jan? My hospital is 30-40 min away, but I live in Texas, so no, I'm not too worried.
@EmilyLove25 No fun, right? I felt like I'd been hit by a truck afterwards. I remember clutching my newborn in the hospital and sobbing because they'd put my breakfast tray on a chair across the room and I didn't have the strength to go get it. Hopefully this time I'll be a little more prepared mentally!
1. What is your EDD and do you hope to go early, late, right on that date, or don't care? 1/25/18 - I think right on the date because I am such a planner!
2. If you want to go early, is it due to insurance reasons (avoid resetting your premiums), tax purposes, want a late Dec baby or an early Feb instead, etc? Good point on going early but would not want it to be a month early
3. How do you plan to deliver? If rcs, does your office typically schedule at 39w or 38w? Natural if possible. Natural near a hospital would be best.
4. Do you worry about not making it to the hospital on time due to snow/ice since it will be Jan? Hilarious question as I just moved from Texas to NYC and this is one of the first things I thought about. Because it's NYC I assume the streets will be fairly cleared if we have some sort of blizzard but who knows!!!! Maybe this is part of the adventure....
1. What is your EDD and do you hope to go early, late, right on that date, or don't care? EDD is 1/11/18 and I'm hoping to go early (in 2017!)
2. If you want to go early, is it due to insurance reasons (avoid resetting your premiums), tax purposes, want a late Dec baby or an early Feb instead, etc? Insurance reasons, and also DS's birthday is 1/14 so it would be nice to not have them too close.
3. How do you plan to deliver? If rcs, does your office typically schedule at 39w or 38w? Hospital, vaginally with epidural!
4. Do you worry about not making it to the hospital on time due to snow/ice since it will be Jan? DS arrived during an ice storm and we made it to the hospital, so I'm not too worried about this one!
1. What is your EDD and do you hope to go early, late, right on that date, or don't care? January 22, 2018 - I don't care too much. But, my bf is a little less than a month out from her due date and is just done. So - Slightly early would be ok but, Late would probably suck!
2. If you want to go early, is it due to insurance reasons (avoid resetting your premiums), tax purposes, want a late Dec baby or an early Feb instead, etc? Wouldn't want to be almost month early just for tax purposes.
3. How do you plan to deliver? If rcs, does your office typically schedule at 39w or 38w? FTM so natural if possible.
4. Do you worry about not making it to the hospital on time due to snow/ice since it will be Jan? It did occur to me since we live in Western PA with a ton a hills and you never know. But we live about 15 minutes away from the hospital and have good SUVS!
1. What is your EDD and do you hope to go early, late, right on that date, or don't care? -I am thinking around Jan. 15 based on my LMP, but my first appointment is Thursday.
2. If you want to go early, is it due to insurance reasons (avoid resetting your premiums), tax purposes, want a late Dec baby or an early Feb instead, etc? -On Time would be fine with me. My first was a week late and I hope to not do that again.
3. How do you plan to deliver? If rcs, does your office typically schedule at 39w or 38w? Last time I made it to 8 cm before I had medication and that was more fear of the unknown. It only worked on half of my body, so I'd like to do med free this time.
4. Do you worry about not making it to the hospital on time due to snow/ice since it will be Jan? No worries, it will likely be in the 70s down here.
1. What is your EDD and do you hope to go early, late, right on that date, or don't care? Jan. 11 based on my LMP but US next week, so it may change. I am extremely conflicted on when LO comes. Don't want birthday to be too close to Xmas, but DH and I both have to do a LOT of out of town traveling for work through out January. It won't matter this year but I don't want to ever have to miss LO's actual birthday - even if we choose to celebrate it on a different day.
2. If you want to go early, is it due to insurance reasons (avoid resetting your premiums), tax purposes, want a late Dec baby or an early Feb instead, etc? See above
3. How do you plan to deliver? If rcs, does your office typically schedule at 39w or 38w? Don't really know yet...probably in hospital with epidural, but haven't finished checking out my options.
