I just love bringing up old threads lately! At 38 weeks we're still contemplating names. We came up with Daniel Oliver for a boy this week. Daniel was my grandpa's name (my dad's dad) and his last name started with "O" so he sometimes went by Dan-o. The only problem is that our last name starts with G and the initials would be D.O.G. How big of a deal would that be to you guys? We could use my dad's name as the middle "Daniel Michael G.....", but I love the name Oliver and the idea of being able to call LO "Dan'O" on occasion.
I don't want to post our grandparents' names, but none of them are in the running for this or any future kids.
My sister has one of my grandma's names, so she kind of has dibs on it, I guess, if she wants to use it for a future kid. I don't think she will, and it's a fine name, just not what I'd choose for a kid. My other grandma's is nice, but a little old fashioned and just not what I'd choose.
H's grandmas have the bad kind of old-fashioned name. Not a bad name, per se, but the kind that's not classic or timeless, but when you hear it, you instantly know what generation that person is from. Think Thelma or Ethel.
My grandpa's have nice names, but one is too common and generic, the other just isn't our preference. H's grandpa's just aren't to our taste. Both are a little old fashioned, but not too bad.
