Hi ladies! Are any of you experiencing major dry skin? I used to moisturize once every couple of weeks, and now I have to put lotion on a couple times a day. This didn't happen with my first pregnancy.
@KatieEl I am getting the InformaSeq! I have a sort of no nonsense doctor. She delivered DD, and after seeing how she handled that situation, I have so, so much respect for her. I made my first appointment with her because I wanted a straight forward answer re: testing. I lean toward the NT scan (bonus ultrasound!), but she said that InformaSeq was 100% what she would do, even though she qualified me as low risk. I get the blood drawn for it on June 14th. Nervous of course... are you considering it?
@EmilyLove25 I'm doing it too! Trisomy 13 runs in my family, so the midwife I saw today recommended it. Plus bonus: finding out the sex early? Yes please! I'm getting mine done on June 15th.
DS1: Nov. 2013 DS2: Jan. 2016 DS3: Dec. 2017 Baby #4 on the way!
@KatieEl OMG Yay! I am glad to know someone else here doing it... and we are doing it so close together so we can anxiously wait for the results together! Yay!
@KatieEl and @EmilyLove25 I have been wondering if I should ask my dr about InformaSeq when I go in given that I am 35 (DH is almost 34). I wasn't sure how common of a test it was as the first references I saw to it it seemed like use was limited, so it's actually good to hear it is getting recommended to you all. Will make me feel less nutty when I ask about it...
@scatteringashes Thank you! I'm not going to lie, it was hell. Our son's genetic condition was awful for him, but it created more risks for me, too. The good news is that it was a random mutation, not something that runs in families, and it's very unlikely lightning will strike us twice.
I second what @schaze said, @Mudge85! The Neti-Pot is fan-freaking-tastic for colds. I always feel like it lessens the length of my cold, and clears the congestion up. If congestion is not an issue, and just a sore throat, you could try gargling warm salt water or drinking some warm tea with honey in it. Also, Tylenol for aches/pains/fevers. Sorry you feel so awful!
Thanks @KatieEl, @schaze & @cyanope - So far, congestion isn't an issue just the terribly sore throat and the achiness. If the congestion kicks in though I'm definitely going to investigate this Nettie pot... I'm actually drinking a cup of tea right now - I leave work in about 20 minutes and have told me DH I'm going straight to bed. He said he'd wake me to see if I want dinner but I have a feeling I may just sleep through. I'm sure i'll be back on here tomorrow one way or the other!
@kheggaton I would think spotting that light is nothing to be concerned about, but I'm a big proponent of calling your care provider if hearing it from a medical professional will be reassuring!
DS1: Nov. 2013 DS2: Jan. 2016 DS3: Dec. 2017 Baby #4 on the way!
@kheggaton I had the same type of spotting yesterday but not today. I am also 7 weeks. But if you feel something might be wrong definitely give your doctor a call
@Mudge85 I'm sorry you're feeling so sick! I usually like to take a steamy shower to help with congestion, and then drink hot tea or hot water/lemon juice/honey to help with my sore throat. I hope you feel better soon!
@Mudge85 - along the neti-pot line, there's a brand called Dr. Neil's that had medicated packets that is safe during pregnancy. My best friend said it was a life saver when she was pregnant.
@KatieEl@EmilyLove25 - I'll be doing whatever brand NIPT my RE wants me to do, but I already know that I'll also be doing either the CVS or amnio as well. We did PGD testing to avoid a single gene disorder from being passed down, and the amnio/cvs can give better answers regarding that than a NIPT.
@miranda21037 and @KatieEl Thank you. I talking It over with my boyfriend and we decided if it persists tomorrow, we will call my doctor. Our first appointment is Tuesday morning.
@ChloandCoco I always get itchy and excessively dry when I'm pregnant... Actually it was the itchiness that got me to take a pregnancy test! My gp said that as an Asian, I'm more prone to dry skin anyways. She recommended eucerin which I could find at my local drugstore. (I live in Canada though so not sure about availability in your area)
@scatteringashes - I'm in Canada, but I would that although most people (at least the ones that I know!) have a dating scan, an NT scan at 12 weeks and the AS at 20ish weeks, really the only one that's "standard/required" here is the AS. That being said I had at least 5 ultrasounds with my DD (the three I mentioned above plus two for small things they were keeping an eye on!)
@Mudge85 - feel better soon! I second the Neti pot!
@miranda21037 and @kheggaton - thinking of you both! I think talking to your doctor/midwife for reassurance is never the wrong decision.
Thanks for all the well wishes & suggestions ladies.. Happy to report I am feeling a bit better this morning - my throat is not nearly as sore... I'm just E X H A U S T E D .... whew. I did sleep for 2 hours and then ate dinner then 10 hours last night so I think that definitely helped!
Anyone else get crazy cramps after an orgasm? All I could think was MY BODY THINKS I'M ALREADY IN LABOR. I had to take 2 Tylenol to fall asleep! DH felt TERRIBLE for me and I think we've both been traumatized by it, haha!
Me: 32 | DH: 32 DSS: 5- starting kindergarten this fall! TTC since our wedding: October 22, 2016 BFP #1 5/10/2017!!! *Sadly, we lost our sweet babe on 6/19/17 at 9 weeks, 2 days. But we are made of hope, and we'll be back here soon.*
Haha, yep, @hunt_adventure_society! Totally normal. You actually have uterine contractions after orgasm when you're not pregnant too, they're just heightened now. Mine have never been severe like yours, but I know the severity varies from woman to woman. It is not a risk for a healthy pregnancy. When women are at risk for early labor, sexy time is a no no because, as I said above, orgasms cause uterine contractions, which, in a high risk pregnancy, has the potential to induce labor. If that's not a risk factor, sex (and orgasm) is not an issue!
@cyanope okay, whew! It was so strong I thought the babe was going to think we were kicking him or her out! I did make a joke that if we're ready to induce labor, that should definitely do the trick when the time comes, haha. On the bright side, orgasms are WAY MORE INTENSE for me now, holy smokes. I'm sure that's part of it, too. That and my libido has been a bit lowered since we got pregnant (sore boobs + progesterone suppositories 2x daily = "don't look at me, I'm a monster!!") so they haven't been as frequent. REALLY hoping the second trimester is as much of a sweet spot as everyone says it is, because I'm missing that time with my honey!

Anyone else having cramping? I'm 6 weeks today. It comes and goes, but when it's here, I almost want to double over, it hurts so bad. I almost feel the way I do when I've started my period. I feel very gassy and cramping almost kind of feel constipated. How long does this last and can I do anything when it comes on?
Hi ladies! I will be 6 weeks tomorrow. Anyone have any experience about not having a ton of CM since pregnancy? All I hear about is how much everyone has. My son is 5, so I don't remember that long ago. All the other symptoms are definitely here though. I have my 1st appt next Wednesday. Thank you!
So... I had some spotting earlier today and went in to the ob's. Everything looks good, baby's heartbeat is strong, etc. However they did mention that the yolk sac is measuring a little small, but has grown since my last u/s (Monday). The want me to come back in Wednesday for a follow up u/s to check progress. Has anyone else had an issue with the sac? Did it correct itself? Signed, Still very concerned, despite the initial good news.
@SoldiersMom I'm in the same boat! I'm 5 weeks and four days. I've had pretty painful cramping several times in the last couple of days. It always passes in less than 10 minutes and no spotting. From what I've been reading it's okay if it doesn't last too long, become too severe, or is accompanied by bleeding/spotting. It's just the uterus prepping for baby.
@melsue18 yes I've been experiencing this as well. Something the cramps are sooooooo intense. I have my first appointment on Friday and plan on asking if the OB has any thoughts or recommendations
Today I started having almost AF-like cramps, but much much more mild than my usual AF cramps. and it's more up in the abdomen and back, so not near the pelvic region. Could my body be going through "phantom" cramps since AF would've been due in the next day or two if i wasn't pregnant? Is it something I should call my nurse about in the morning?
I have had bad cramping too. I have been waking up at night with it. A lot of times, it feels like I'm being stabbed.
I got an ultrasound today. The doctor said I have a corpus luteum cyst on my left ovary. They said it's really common and not anything to be worried about. If your pain is more on one side, that could be what you have.
Ok, I've decided I've had enough, and I'm going to ask my doctor for a diclegis prescription, for the nausea. Anyone on this, or have experience? How long should it take to get relief?
Me- 39 (turning 40 in April), TTC for the first time ever (since Jan 2015), low ovarian reserve
Married 3/14/14 to my wonderful wife, but her sperm count is rather low
TTC with frozen donor sperm and science
7 IUIs, 7 BFNs. 2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs. Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire. Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus! fresh 5 day transfer (2 embryos) 4/17/17- BFP! Identical twins "due" 1/2/17 (but anticipated arrival sometime December)
@KLake42 I took diclegis almost my entire third trimester with DS2. It took me about a week to get full results, but I started noticing some improvement after about three days. It did make me extremely tired, especially the first few days of taking it and each time after I upped my dose, but then your body gets used to it and the fatigue isn't as bad. Every few weeks it would stop being as effective and I had to up my dose; lather rinse repeat, which my midwife said was fairly common. By the end I was on the max dose to get any relief. But all that said: it helped so much. I was literally puking up after every meal before I got on it, and barely puked at all or felt nauseous once I started, excepting right before I had to increase my doses again.

@KLake42@KatieEl - this may be a stupid question, but is diclegis the same/similar to zofran? i've heard that's a common drug for nausea for morning sickness too...
@caseyw8784 It's different than zofran, though also for morning sickness, yes. My midwife felt that zofran was sort of a last resort drug and was more comfortable trying diclegis for me first

@KLake42 I called the OB office about taking something. They said I cold have a script for it but sometimes insurance won't cover it so you take unisom/b6, which is the same ingredients. I took two doses of B6 today but plan to reserve the unisom for when I'm really having a tough time. I feel lousy but not miserable yet. I'm pretty uptight about medication while pregnant but I will take the help if I need it. Report back and let us know if it helps. Good luck!
Well, I hate PG brain for people prone to anxiety. I've now decided to start obsessing over fetal heart rates. I was 6 weeks 6 days when I had mine and FHR was 128. Doctor/Tech said perfect... but since I have nothing to do at work, I've gone through every post ever written and am a tad worried. Although it is in the "normal range" (starts at 120), it's on the lower end... It was an abdominal US so I don't know if it was less accurate. With DD, I was two days further along and her HR was 148 BPM... way stronger... Ugh. So now I'm worried. Can't wait to be further along so I can use the at home Doppler regularly. Just thought I'd vent. I wish I was busier at work (I will be next week after Wednesday), so I didn't have time to obsess
