Just trying to relax and recover today. We were only at the hospital 24 hours but man I am happy to be home. My whole body is sore and I am so thirsty. I'm happy I can eat almost whatever I want now and not worry about the diabetes. If only there was room service at home.......
H and I went grocery shopping this morning, and now I have nothing else planned for the rest of the day. I'm driving myself crazy, just waiting around for the baby to show up. I'm trying to "relax", but I'm kind of sick of that, too. I feel like I'm just sitting around, twiddling my thumbs.
@starphish18: Two suggestions to pass the time. 1. I know you just went to the grocery store, so you might need diff ingredients, but any and all meal prep you can do now will save your sanity later! Even chopping up and freezing baggies of veg (for soup, stir-fry) will save tons of time; even if you think "well, it only takes 5 minutes to chop an onion," I promise you it's 5 mins you have now but might not have on the flip side! Meals, entrees, soup starters, even baggies of marinated meats to throw on the grill, fully cooked pans of pasta to be rewarmed... seriously worth spending the time! I wish I'd done more meal prep. (A lot of nights around here have been: nuke a feta-spinach chicken sausage and a nuke a side of peas. I mean, that's fine in a jiffy but not quite exactly a well-thought-out meal.) 2. If you're thinking about mailing hardcopy birth announcements, start addressing envelopes now! I know a lot of people who, even if they do email, would love to have a real pic of baby to put on the fridge. (Or address envelopes for shower thank-yous?) Just some suggestions!
@mrsrep123@SKZW add us to the extra screen time. I'm hoping once I'm a little more recovered to get DS out of the house a little more, but for now I'm trying to look at the big picture and not feel guilty. It's such a short amount of time in the grand scheme of things.
I was GBS+ but since my labor was so fast we didn't get both bags of antibiotics in before this little guy was born. As a result we're going to be in the hospital for 48 hours, meaning until tomorrow at noon. My mom is watching DS1 at home so it's just DH, DS2, and me. Honestly, it's so relaxing! Toddlers are easier at night, but I totally forgot how easy sleepy newborns are during the day. DH and I are just sitting around watching Netflix and taking turns holding this little guy. I'm sure once we get home and have two kids to take care of it will be a different story, but for now things are easy (during the day that is).
It's been a rough weekend...came home Friday afternoon, woke up in the middle of the night freezing and hot flashes, same thing happened yesterday but add a 102 fever. Ended up in the ER and having the beginning of mastitis. So now I'm on antibiotics. Just trying to relax and settle in with the little guy. Pumped for the first time today and posted a ton of questions (probably silly ones lol) in the breastfeeding thread. So as you can all tell it's lots of tun times going on!

Thanks for the motivation @SKZW. I made another large freezer dish that'll feed us at least 2 dinners, and whipped up some brownies...you know, to reward myself for the hard work.
So much Daniel Tiger and Sesame Street on at our house since having the baby home. I feel bad that that is how we're getting through the days with our toddler. We rotate activities - playroom, outside time, story time, coloring/drawing time.... But in a pinch, we gotta put the tube on to keep everyone sane.
How are you other mommas with newborns and toddlers handling it?
Our approach has been divide and conquer! H is on toddler duty, I've got baby. I know it's rough on H because toddlers can be such dicks, so when baby is sleeping I pitch in. We have an unspoken agreement that I get an afternoon nap, though! lol. DS has definitely gotten more screen time lately than ever before. I'm not sure it's helping the dick-ish behavior!!
We get to go home tonight! We have been here for about 48 hours, but not since DS was born, so they typically have people stay 2 nights after delivery. We are all doing well and I'm ready to be home with DD and start our new normal.
