@miranda21037 - I mentioned that i am doing a beta test cause we did IVF. The transfer was on 5/10, and the beta is 10 days later on Saturday 5/20. But, i "cheated" and tested early with hpts and got my bfp on mother's day. i waited to make sure the lines were getting darker and darker (and darker!) to post my intro on here...i haven't really participated in the other weekly threads; i'm waiting for the "official" result from the beta to do that, for some reason...lol
Have my first US tomorrow at 7+5. I have been SO excited about this appointment. But then I got an alert in my calendar this morning that I have a wellness visit plus shots for DD AT THE SAME TIME. Ahhhh!! What to do? Reschedule DD's appointment (that I scheduled months ago)? Or reschedule my US? The decision is killing me!
@cyanope which one do you think would be easier to reschedule? Personally, my clinic is really hard to get into so it'd be easier to make a new appointment for DD.
They're both easy to reschedule, @schaze. I'm more worried about staying on schedule for DD's shots. She's 16 months, and these are her 15 month shots, so we're already behind (we put off her 9 month shots because she was sick, so that has pushed all of the other ones back). Any STM's have advice about vaccination scheduling? Would putting it off a couple of weeks make a huge difference? I'm just worried I'm being selfish because I really want to see this baby!
@cyanope I literally would not be able to wait to have the US because my anxiety is so bad, but if you are more laid back, reschedule that one... the more they grow, the more there is to see!
@EmilyLove25, I let DH make the decision. I totally thought he would think DD's shots were the priority, but he wants to see this tiny one as much as I do...so we're sticking to the US, and rescheduling DD's appointment for next Friday. I'm relieved he agreed with me, because there is NO way I could have calmly waited until next week for the US. I get to see this baby tomorrow! Edited to tag.
My dr. just called with my second beta results: 3,108!! (21dpo) That's TRIPLE what it was two days ago! (1,056 at 19dpo). Feeling better little by little, but I just want to get to that U/S appt safely- they moved it up to May 31st for me and said we should hear the heartbeat by then! In the meantime, I guess I'm learning a lot about patience. ::breathe in, breathe out:: and definitely not googling anything scary. Hopefully.
Me: 32 | DH: 32 DSS: 5- starting kindergarten this fall! TTC since our wedding: October 22, 2016 BFP #1 5/10/2017!!! *Sadly, we lost our sweet babe on 6/19/17 at 9 weeks, 2 days. But we are made of hope, and we'll be back here soon.*
Have been waiting on second beta and the midwife called me herself. 13 dpo = hCG 36.5, 15 dpo = hCG 50. The midwife said I am progressing fine and the numbers look good and she would see me in six weeks for an ultrasound (yikes, that is a long time). After I got off the phone with her though I calculated and they seem on the very low end of viability so I am not as relieved as I had hoped to be... I guess I should just try to put it aside and be happy, right?
Quick P&R! Levels were good yesterday (4151) so my nurse called me to schedule a US for next week, but then called back to reschedule for tomorrow (I.e today!) for 11am instead, so I'm on the way there now
Thursday my nurse had scheduled me for next week, but then called back and said "Doc wants to see you tomorrow. Nothing's wrong, she just thinks you're further along than we'd originally thought."
So I went in yesterday. Apparently my RE was worried about my levels not being quite double and my pregnancy possibly being "somewhere else" (I'm assuming ectopic). But she measured me and said I show currently at 5 w 6 days, but since they don't know for sure when I ovulated they want to see me back next week to be sure on the age. She also said we should see the heartbeat next week and typically once there's a heartbeat then there's a significantly reduced risk of loss. She also said I should bring DH next week JIC.
I was fine at the appointment, but I had to go by myself and of course my mind started racing as soon as I got into the car. I ended up being super shaken up and upset for a decent portion of yesterday. My nurse essentially lied to me when she said "nothing's wrong" on the phone the day before and I was so worked up and excited that my RE thought I was further along than that the fact that I *wasn't* and that there was no HB yet had me freaked out that something was wrong. But I also know that I'm a late ovulator and when they think that I "probably" ovulated to be at the point they thought I should be makes no sense for my personal menstrual cycle or our timing for intercourse last month so of course it makes SENSE that I'm not actually further along, and there wouldn't be a HB at this point. I really wish they would have left me alone in my ignorant newly-pregnant bliss until my appointment I had scheduled for next Thursday (which we have to go back for anyways) instead of getting me all worked up over potentially nothing.
But good news is I got to see the chorionic sac, yolk sac, and a first glimpse of our little bean of an embryo.
Keep us on your T&P and FX lists to see a growth and a first glimpse at the HB for next week
@WildMagelet wow, I'm sorry your RE's office communicated like that and gave you potentially unnecessary worries. I have everything crossed for fantastic growth and a clear heartbeat next week!
@WildMagelet I'm sorry you had to deal with that. Your reaction sounds just like mine would be-even though you KNOW your cycle light years better than them, it's hard when everyone expects O on CD 14. Definitely FX for you. I think those are all very promising signs with how much you could see so early!
I'm just going to try and relax, focus on SKs (they both have graduations this weekend, one 8th grade and one HS), and keep the positive vibes going! Thursday afternoon won't come soon enough!
(TW) Had beta #2 drawn this morning and just got a call from my RE. On Sat 5/20 beta was 183, this morning is was 506! Will be going back on Tues 5/30 for one more blood draw...was hoping for an ultrasound too, but I don't think i'll be getting to see anything at this next appt....
Well, I had my first official appointment today and it was just meh. I'm currently shopping for OB's and I don't think this place is going to make the cut. They were attached to a hospital and very impersonal. I felt like I was going through the cafeteria line.
The midwife I saw was just ok. She's asked me about if I would get a vaccine for the baby at 36 weeks and I said no, we're not doing vaccines and she looked shocked and said that's going to be a problem in getting a pediatrician and finding a school. I've done research and I know in my area there are plenty of options for pediatric care and schools which don't require vaccines. And honestly, I respect either decision - I'm not really one to debate about vaccines, but have decided not to do it with my kid. And it's fine that she recommends them, but it was a lack of respect of my viewpoint and she kept asserting it was a problem. Anyway, she also rolled/twisted my nipples several times during my breast exam which I just thought was weird. That's never happened before and was not comfortable.
Plus, all the Dr's in that clinic are dudes and I'd rather have a girl OB.
Oh well. At least they are giving me another US in a week so that's something.
@caeilievalor I'm sorry you weren't happy with your first appointment and the MW you met. At the same time, I don't think you can expect health care professionals to encourage or support a decision not to vaccinate your child. The overwhelming weight of science says that vaccinations save lives and that is what (reputable) health care professionals will continue to tell you. Yes, it is going to be a problem you are going to be responsible for dealing with if you do not vaccinate. Not trying to get into a debate on vaccines, just being honest about what you are going to encounter if this is your decision. It is also my understanding that public schools in every state have certain basic vaccination requirements. In terms of finding a new OBGYN practice I asked a friend of mine for a recommendation, do you have any friends who have had children recently who might be able to give you a rec for the practice they used? Personally I didn't find Google/online reviews very helpful for this purpose.
My OB traditionally doesn't see patients until they're after 8 weeks, and only does u/s (other than the a/s) if there's a concern. At my post op after the loss she told me she'd handle my next pregnancy however I want, if I want to come in every week, regular u/s, whatever. I haven't decided what I want yet. I actually haven't even called her yet.
With the loss pregnancy I spent 10 weeks on pins and needles, seeing her every other week and going for an u/s every other week. I'm kinda afraid to even have to walk back into that office.

1000000% this. You're going to have a really hard time finding a doctor on the anti-vax train because, well, science.
@caeilievalor Just wanted to chime in about the nipple thing... what on earth? I seriously can't imagine WHY she did that? Do you have to go back to her?
@remindmeofthebabe, @zamora_spin Honestly, I will need to do more research on the whole vaccine thing before making a final decision, but I am leaning to no with the knowledge I have. So as far as a health issue - I definitely need more information.
As far as logistics, in my area - it really isn't a problem. There are many Dr's here who support not vaccinating and there are schools who allow it as well. Maybe not public schools, but there are several private schools that it's not an issue in. I know two families in the last 6 months who have moved here from California specifically because they did not want to vaccinate their kids. And countless others who already live here who do not vaccinate.
The real problem with the midwife was her approach. She was just too assertive and not helpful in giving information, etc.
@EmilyLove25 She said that I needed to do that to raise the center of the nipple so the kid can latch on better...but I don't know. My nipples are not inverted or anything. There's definitely something already there to latch onto...
@caeilievalor the American Academy of Pediatrics, World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control, American Medical Association, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, just to name a few, all urge parents to vaccinate their children. You'll be hard pressed to find any scientific or academic source that is anti-vaccine. I'm not a doctor, but I would much rather trust the overwhelming scientific consensus on how to keep my baby safe and healthy rather than some random internet sources or "experts" like Jenny McCarthy.
@remindmeofthebabe Thanks! I'll definitely check into those. Jenny McCarthy is not an opinion leader for me either, haha! (Although I did love Singled Out. )
