GTKY: What kind of car do you have? Do you love it/hate it? Do you plan to get something new to accommodate your growing family?
We have a Pontiac Montana van. I actually love it lol. We bought it last summer when we decided to get Great Danes to accommodate for their size and having 2 kids. It'll be perfect for our growing family too. A lot of my friends teased me when I told them I was wanting a van but I don't give a shit lol. I'm a mom and I need the extra space. I'll buy myself a Mustang when the kids get older :)

How old are your other kids? DD is 21 months

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?
Still just feeling like it's unfair to my DD to not get to be the baby anymore.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :
I am happy I get to take more time off this time with both my babies.

    Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions/
I'm so tired of being sick yet it's somewhat relieving. I'm ready for school to be out so I can rest (well as much as one can rest with a 21 month old)

GTKY: What kind of car do you have? Do you love it/hate it? Do you plan to get something new to accommodate your growing family?
i had a 2 door civic coupe. When we got pregnant with DD we bought a Kia Sorento. I like it fine. It's nice to have the 3rd and nice to have space.

    DD is 16 months

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?  I'm just stressing about my energy level. I feel like I'm not being as interactive as I want to be and I feel so guilty. DD is great at independent play and rarely complains, but I just feel so bad that I'm so exhausted. I'm hoping all night feeding exhaustion is a little easier to cope with than baby draining my life force exhaustion.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM : DD is becoming more and more of a bad ass every day. She is seriously hilarious and just a blast to be around and I'm feeling very lucky that she's gonna be this LO's role model.

    Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions/

GTKY: What kind of car do you have? Do you love it/hate it? Do you plan to get something new to accommodate your growing family? We're buying a 2011 or 2012 Honda Odyssey next month and I'm super stoked. The car I have now is TIRED. It just passed 230,000 miles. It's a boat with GIGANTIC doors and it's awkward and putting my daughter in the car seat is a major pain in the ass. I always hit the cars next to me with the gigantic doors and I'm so freaking pumped for remote controlled sliding minivan doors. Holy crap, it's going to be amazeballs!!!

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now? DS is starting to learn the art of crying to get what you want/throwing little mini fits. It's not ~bad~ just yet, but ugh he has been SO easy that it's just such a change. I feel like all I've said to him in the last week is NO nooooo NooOooOOoo.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM : Still just so excited to be adding to our family so quickly. DS took quite some time to bring home and we weren't sure we'd be able to fulfill our "want" to have kids close in age.

Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions/: Like @missbmama, this pregnancy does seem to be just kind of passing by. I can't believe the second tri is next month for me. That in itself is a rave for sure lol.

GTKY: What kind of car do you have? Do you love it/hate it? Do you plan to get something new to accommodate your growing family? Can you guys tell I have been doing some vehicle research?? Haha. We currently have a Mitsubishi Outlander. It's a 2007 so it's coming up on needing some major maintenance so I think it's time to trade it in since we had planned on getting something bigger anyway. I am not ready for a minivan yet, though.

    19 months

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?  I'm so tired right now and I worry about the newborn-zombie-like life I lead after DS was born and how hard that's going to be with an active toddler... just thinking about it makes me want to take a nap.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM : DS is talking more and more each day and I'm excited that he will be able to express himself better when the baby is here!

Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions/ we finally got to see baby via ultrasound this week! The machine was old and crappy so the pictures look like a blob and not a baby but we got to see him/her wiggle around and that was reassuring and sweet.

GTKY: What kind of car do you have? Do you love it/hate it? Do you plan to get something new to accommodate your growing family? We bought a 2012 Honda Pilot last December (8 seater SUV) and so far I've LOVED it. It's so spacious and has so much room for car seats and cargo. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a bigger car but doesn't want to be a mini van mom :)

How far along: 9 and 2

how old are other kids: 3.5 and 2

concerns or challenges: I'm not gonna lie, I'm *pretty* worried about how DD will handle another baby. DS did great with the transition to having a sibling, but he was younger than she is now, and she has such a different personality. I don't think it will be as awesome as last time. Confession: sometimes I worry I'm gonna ruin this awesome family dynamic we have right now. I really hope (and I'm sure) this new baby will just fit in like he/she's always been there. I should probably stop worrying about it...

joys: I'm feeling more confident everything will go fine since I've passed my loss milestone and I just can't wait to have a little tiny baby again!

random: still can't find the hb on home doppler. Jealous of all the ladies who can!

Car: we have a Subaru Outback that we bought Bc I'm a nurse in Texas where, if it snows (which it does at least once a year where I live) they don't plow the roads and I can't call off work, so basically we bought it for the 4 wheel drive. That was my favorite car, and we were planning to get a mini-van (DH loves them) when we had a third, but then our truck was stolen and I had to buy something cheap(ish) quickly so we got a Jetta. I LOVE the Jetta and basically told DH we can find car seats to fit three across in the Subaru and im not giving up my Jetta (except to get a new Jetta or a Passat!). He's fine with this.

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?  It's tough not feeling well or having the energy to play with my son. I hate feeling like I'm failing him. At least DH has really stepped it up in playing with DS.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM : DS has handled my puking pretty well so far - one day he rolled a car all on my back while I upchucked. Another day he walked up and spit into the toilet next to me like "this is what we do now." He made me smile :)

Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions/ we get to see the baby for the first time tomorrow!! Yay!!

My twins will be 11 months next Tuesday

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?  My boys are almost 11 months, but only 9 months adjusted. One is crawling full speed and the other is just figuring it out. I just hope they both start walking around the same time because my dominant twin is always taking stuff from the other one and I feel bad for him.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM : I just hope we can get into a good routine with 3 under 2.  As they get older I am excited to think about how close they will be.

Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions/ I just want to sleep, all the time... Thank god my babies sleep through the night now (yay sleep training --best thing we ever did) and the thought of going through it all again makes me shudder.

GTKY: What kind of car do you have? Do you love it/hate it? Do you plan to get something new to accommodate your growing family? I currently have a Kia Sorrento. While it's great with two babies, there is not enough room for 3. Mine does not have a third row and if it did it would be a pain to get too because it doesn't have bucket seats.  So unfortunately this fall, i will probably have to upgrade to a mini van. Ugh.  Although I was told the new honda odysseys come with a vacuum. That is intriguing. :)

  • tmk0325 Not even just the new ones! They've had those in their cars for a while. I used to do some ad work for some Honda dealerships and I always thought that was just the freaking smarted thing to put in a minivan.

    rachswi yay!! Good luck tomorrow!

NME44 OMG loss milestones being surpassed are such a big relief. So happy for you.

ilikestars089 my SIL has a Pilot and LOVES it. If DH wasn't super insistent on having captains seats in the second row this would be #1 on my list.

vvitchhazel FX that second trimester energy hits you right away - I can't believe you're so close!

lovelylittledahls Oooooo tell me about your traverse! I think that's what we'll likely end up with. Likes, dislikes?

dkizz82 Right there with you on the guilt thing. I wanted the kids close in age but it's such a bittersweet feeling knowing my baby isn't going ot be the baby for long. I prescribe lots of snuggling to you and LO!! <3

acgonzalez22  YAY FOR PINK! How exciting! And for the second tri. Man, it feels like we are just cruising.

Marley629 My friend is trying to convince me to join the dark side aka the minivan side lol but I just don't feel ready for that yet. Maybe if we add another to the family it will feel a little more practical.

missbmama I hope your MS passes quickly!! What a freaking tease that it subsided and decided to rear its ugly head again.

  • @flowerpower5838 I've only had it about 2 months now, maybe a little more, so I'm still totally over the moon in love with it lol. It has a 3rd row, which I LOVE, that was the main feature we were looking for.  Although we will only have the 2 car seats, we also have 3 nephews that we have as much as possible so we wanted room for them too.  I wanted bucket seats for the 2nd row, but turns out that's super hard to find if you don't want to go the mini van route.  These seats fold forward AMAZINGLY though!  I hauled my daughter, grandmother, great aunt, and mom around to yard sales a couple weekends back and we had plenty of room.  My mom sat in the 3rd row with no problem.  I have it folded down most of the time since I don't always need it and the cargo space when its down is amazing.  I'm pretty sure my model is the standard package since the dealer said it "only" had  backup camera, which was the only "fancy" thing I wanted!  It drives and turns like a dream! My mom has a suburban that I hate to drive because I feel like I'm in a boat, I do not have that feeling at all with the Traverse.  So.. basically.. glowing review from me!  I wish I could think of a "don't like" to make it more credible lol but I seriously can't think of anything

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?  Had some (red) spotting this morning, which freaked me out because spotting in the past for me has been after sex, and we have not DTD for a couple days. It's slowed and changed to brown, so I am feeling better, but I had some real anxiety this morning especially because we are on vacation til after Memorial Day up on the East Coast (home is MS), and I don't want to have to navigate an unknown emergency room! Like the rest of you, the exhaustion is real, and the guilt like @dkizz82 said. We weren't planning to have them quite this close.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM : DD has started crawling and pulling up and I am just happy to see her progressing and thinking how much more independent she'll be by the time this LO arrives. It makes me feel better b/c I won't be able to pick her up for a while after my c-section!

Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions/ If anyone has tips for places to go in Maine or Boston, throw them at me! It's not our first time up here, but we can always use more suggestions.

GTKY: What kind of car do you have? Do you love it/hate it? Do you plan to get something new to accommodate your growing family? We have the Hyundai Santa Fe (the same as @tmk0325 's Kia, but we do have the 3rd row pop up). I like it a lot. We bought it when I was pregnant with DD to accommodate our growing family, knowing we wanted 2 kids. That was before I really knew the reality of car seats and boosters, though. The 3rd row is helpful, but not super easy to get an adult into and you wouldn't want to put a kid who couldn't buckle herself into her own seat back there. I think it will still work well for us, but if I had it to do over again, we'd probably shop minivans, honestly.

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?  I am trying to wean my dd from the bottle and she is just NOT interested in drinking anything but water out of her sippy cup.  We've tried straw cups, the 360, and a "regular" sippy- she spits out milk or formula.  Any tips from other moms out there?

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM : DD is just growing so much and changing so quickly and it's so cool to watch.  She's such a little person now!

Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions/ Like @dkizz82 , I am still waiting for this guilt over taking away dd's babyhood to pass.  Sometimes I still feel really bad about it.

GTKY: What kind of car do you have? Do you love it/hate it? Do you plan to get something new to accommodate your growing family?  I have a Ford Edge and I love it!  It is the perfect size for us.  I wonder if the arrival of the new LO will have me wanting a third row though... we will see.

I do too @kaylawing. This was a surprise baby but only by a few months. We were gonna start trying this summer. So I don't know why I feel so guilty. I just started crying the other day thinking about our last summer together (I'm a teacher). Gotta make the days count I guess.

    DD turns 1 on Monday!

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?
Same old.. My milk supply is drying up and DD wants to be attached to my boob all day and is getting super frustrated with it, which results in lots of pinching & biting. I'm really hoping she decides to just give up on the whole thing soon.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :
DD now points at my belly and says "beebee!" Which is super adorable, but then she also does it to my husbands belly soo I'm pretty sure she just thinks our belly buttons are babies  :D

    i have a 17 mo boy

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?
I'm going through so much fear this time around- I'm dealing with a lot of stuff. But my boy is being a champ.. he's just the sweetest kid! The only change is that he wants to nurse during naps and I can't handle the pain for that long. So that means sometimes he skips his nap which makes me really sad for some reason.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :
Not really yet- just being honest. I just want to skip everything and have the baby healthy in my arms.

    Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions/
I always though I would want to have a third but I never want to be pregnant again. Maybe it's the nausea and fatigue talking! I also feel guilty about being too tired to play with my son, but I make it up by reading books with him a lot despite feeling horrible.

GTKY: What kind of car do you have? Do you love it/hate it? Do you plan to get something new to accommodate your growing family?
I have a Toyota RAV4 hybrid 2016- no plans to get a new car. I love driving it and it is quite spacious. It will be a little bit more difficult to access all the stuff I have in there when I install the second seat but it's fine.

I know I'm going to miss my sleeps! I am curious how everyone is going to adapt. DD will be a little over 5 when baby comes, I don't know anyone who has more than a 3 year gap between kids. At the same time thought, I am happy with the gap knowing when baby comes DD will just be starting Young 5s, so I had all my 1 on 1 time with her when she was a baby/toddler, and I'll be able to kind of do that with baby as well, well as much as I can since I work FT.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM :
I know when baby comes DD is going to so excited, and happy to be a Big Sister finally. (well I hope so :))

GTKY: What kind of car do you have? Do you love it/hate it? Do you plan to get something new to accommodate your growing family?
I have a 2008 Impala. It has been a GREAT car, I've put over 180k miles on it since I've had it, but it's time to upgrade. I would like a third row, not sure why since I don't really lug anyone around besides DD, more space to clutter.

@missbmama or anyone suffering from nausea. At my last appointment I asked my OB about feeling nauseous all.the.time and he suggested B12. Right after my appointment I picked up some Super B yada yada yada, and I can finally eat again.

  • @missbmama sorry you're still feeling so shitty

@lovelylittledahls I feel you on the exhaustion interfering with parenting/play time. Sometimes I just lay on the floor and let DS use my as a jungle gym... Seems to work hahaha

@cait5413 so exciting that your DD is crawling and pulling up! They just get so much more fun from here!

@kaylawing this may not be the advice you're looking for... but maybe just keep the bottle for a while? If you think about it, for babes who continue breastfeeding after 12 months, they don't encourage you to pump and give it in a cup, so how is milk in a bottle different? Just my thoughts... In my opinion she's trying to tell you she's not ready.

@bkrahn why did you have to get rid of your dogs? That would make me sad and stressed too!

@missphil I totally know where you're coming from with the emotions and wishing for the end. I never felt this negatively about pregnancy the first time around, I don't know what changed!

How far along are you? 10+1

How old are your other kids? DS is almost 16 months

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM or questions about things your children are going through now?  DS is transitioning from two naps to 1 and it is a FREAKING NIGHTMARE. This has by far been the hardest nap transition, going from being awake 3-4 hours at a time to 5-6 hours is just too much for him, but if we let him have an afternoon nap then bedtime is a nightmare. But instead he's just a nightmare from 4pm until bedtime... So I don't really know what to do. It's really getting to me...

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM : I can't wait to feel baby kick! I know it happens much sooner the 2nd time and I just want it to happen now!

Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions RANT DH has been working non-stop... originally he was working out of town and i hated that, but now he's working in the city, but works basically every day! I can't decide which is worse...

We are bad. We bought a Dodge Caravan RT a few months ago, knowing we'd need the room, but I hate it. I never wanted a minivan, but I also don't want a huge SUV, so it's the happy medium. I still drive my Mitsubishi RVR daily, we tried to sell it but we crashed it a few years ago so it's basically worthless now. I don't want to stop driving my RVR but I know i will have to transition to the van once LO arrives and it makes me sad. Don't get me wrong, it's a great van! It has all the bells and whistles and will last us forever, but... it's still a minivan lol

Like so many of you, the exhaustion and nausea are making it very difficult to spend quality time with my son. It is a real struggle. I feel guilty because you view these as your "last" months together before changing the family dynamic but at the same time, I'm hopeful I will feel better sooner than last time (please. 18 w of it last time was too much) and that "this too shall pass"

My son LOVES babies. We haven't told him yet but he is going to be over the moon to be a big brother. Here's hoping that the reality of it doesn't change his mind.

    Rants/Raves/Randoms/Questions/
Have most of you told your littles already? We decided to wait a while before mentioning it to him. Advice?

GTKY: What kind of car do you have? Do you love it/hate it? Do you plan to get something new to accommodate your growing family?
"My" car is a 2002 pontiac grand prix. It is an old boat for a mid-life crisis male. I actually love it but it's an electrical nightmare and I just use it to schlep back and forth to the metro station and the occasional errand when my H is using the other vehicle. It's barely holding on though.
In 2015 we got a Hyundai Sante Fe. I don't love it but we needed something that could tow our pop-up camper, have a third row, and be more affordable than the full-size SUVs like the Pilot or the really big 'uns. My H likes it a lot but I wish it had more cargo space.

@NME44 congrats on passing your milestone! PGAL brain is rough.

@rachswi  hysterical! toddlers are hilarious. did you have your appointment yet today?

@cait5413  i hope the spotting subsides asap and you're able to enjoy your vacation without too much worry!

@kaylawing  the just-before-bed bottle was the last one we gave up after 12 months (i think by 15 months). we actually had better luck skipping straight to "real" cups. we have really tiny juice glasses that are perfect for little hands. DS liked that they were real glass, and clear. he also loves straws. sippys and the 360 were not a thing for us, they are just gathering dust. i wouldn't be too concerned about the milk thing because their need for the milk / formula calories really takes a nose dive. keep trying and hopefully she'll surprise you one day :)

@missphil  i am with you. being pregnant is just so not my thing.

ETA: @kvacmak  solidarity. hang in there. that transition to one nap is just awful. one nap sure does make scheduling your day easier. we're entering the "fighting all naps but still need one" transition and it's also not pretty... wah

@anewadventure Just this morning on a radio talk show I listen to, they were talking about Grand Prix the host had in the past, and how it had a plethora of electrical issues, from the trunk not staying shut, or the hood popping, to the driver seat moving front and back for no reason. Either way stay safe :)

@kvacmak we moved to a new neighbourhood just over a month ago and they just weren't adjusting as well as we had hoped they would. They were both big dogs, and were used to being outside all day and some of the neighbours complained that they barked all day long when we were gone. We had tried them on bark collars before and they never helped and we just didn't want to have to muzzle them all day :( we moved from a big yard on the edge of town to a small yard in the middle of a busy town and I think it was just too much for them. They were such timid and friendly dogs but were suddenly becoming aggressive to any dog that walked past our yard (especially when DD was out in the yard) and we just felt that they would have a better, less confined life in the country. We had them both for 6 years and it was just such an awful decision to have to make! But we really felt like it was the best thing for them. SO sad!
  • @kvacmak I like that line of thinking.  Thanks for helping me step back a little bit.  I think we moms tend to overthink/overworry sometimes ;)

  • @bkrahn oh man, that sounds so hard, but it also sounds like you made the right decision for your pups.

@kaylawing we totally overthink. Sometimes I think these 'guidelines' and hard and fast rules get the best of us, when every kid is different and will tell you when they're ready for things.

@dkizz82 With my daughter being born in May, the timing worked out perfectly.  This time, not so much.

Edited to Add: I think this will be great though.  I can work until Winter Break and then go on leave.  I'm still not 100% sure I am returning next year, though.

  • @anewadventure Thanks! No spotting today, so hopefully it was a one-time thing

@dkizz82 & @kaylawing College professor here. We were also shooting for May. Oops. DD was born in August, 2 weeks before my first semester as a full time professor started. I did not take leave, other than not coming to campus on the days I didn't teach. So, at least there is winter break this time, and I am going to talk to my dean about starting the semester late.

  • Hearing about mat leave in the US makes me so sad for you guys. I got a year with DS (Canada) paid at 55% of my income and it was almost not enough.  I cannot imagine leaving my baby at 8-12 weeks! Nevermind being a zombie from sleep deprivation in that stage! You guys are superheroes!

My in-laws were lifesavers for us. They came to stay for over a month to help take care of her while I taught because she was too young for daycare. Our family leave situation is such a joke in this country.

I am so jealous of your leave time. I haven't told work yet, but I"m in higher education, so I plan on being done in December and not coming back til Marchish sometime.  I said when we have another I will do no less than 12 weeks. I would even consider a few more weeks unpaid if I could swing it. The crappy part is my benefits roll over July 1, so I will only have like half of my vacation days accumulated, so that stinks. The rest will go on STD at 60% I believe.

So I'm a teacher and we get nothing! I have about 5 weeks built up and have been paying into STD for two years. I've been told they aren't going to pay anything now. I don't know how we'll make it. That's a long time off work. I'll probably end up having to go back around spring break.
