What do you think of Virginia, with the nickname Ginger?

For some reason, I've been fixated on this name lately, as my husband just reconnected with a long lost family member with that name (a great aunt.)  It just sounds so refreshing, since I've never met a Virginia, and it seems classic and pretty like my daughter's name, Rose. I also think the nickname Ginger is adorable for childhood and has a fun retro vibe.  Thoughts?

  • Virginia just never does it for me. I think of the state and Virgin.

    Love Rose btw.

  • I like the name Virginia (I knew a Virginia who was awesome, so that could sway my opinion), but I don't love Ginger. Whereas Rose is a beautiful, classic name, Ginger just always sounds ditzy to me, kind o like Bunny or Mitzi. Oe of those old fashioned nicknames that's better left in the past. But I do love the nn Ginny, which has the same sweet, classic vibe as Rose, IMO.

    This.

Nothing wrong with it, and it is trending up, so you're not alone in your love of it. I do think ginger is a cute nn.

LOVE Virginia and Ginger is a very refreshing nn
  • I love it for the same reasons as you. I know someone who had a Virginia who uses Ginny as a NN if you end up finding Ginger problematic.

I like the sound of Virginia but don't like the "virgin" association and also feel like kids might link it with "vagina".  But Ginger and Ginny are cute nicknames.  I knew one Virginia and she is about 20 now.
  • I think it's refreshing as well, but I prefer the NN Ginny.
  • Why not just ginger?
  • Virginia is lovely. I prefer Ginny as a nn. Virginia Rose sounds wonderful!

  • Thanks so much for the feedback ladies!  Still keeping it on my list, but definitely factoring in the downsides. And yeah, Ginny is definitely another option to consider, nickname wise! Oh and @hollieeileen i thought of just Ginger as a name but I don't think it's substantial enough for adulthood. Super cute though. :)

    Thanks again!

    same!
  • I think Ginny is adorable as a nn. My son is 4 and there's a Virigina in his class but she goes by Ginnny and she's just the cutest thing ever. She's so talkative and spunky.
