Guys, this makes me feel really stupid but I have to ask. I read (skimmed) through most of that old catfish thread a while ago and I just got so confused when people started figuring it out. Was it just that someone found the real girl whose picture was being used and that's when they realized it was lies?
@DuchessOfCambridge I think a couple people started suspecting something was up before that. If I'm remembering the correct situation and timeline, I think her spouse ended up coming in and posting, but wouldn't answer questions really and it got all sorts of awkward. I imagine someone did some serious reverse image searching and ended up finding the real owner of the pictures. That's when it all went down. But, that means that the person was an active and involved member of the community for a year+ before it all came out.
We had one on D13 who would post pics of her glorious cakes that she would make but always had issues posting pics of self/baby. And it took us until after babies were born to figure it out by google image reverse search. It makes you feel so dirty when you realize you were tricked my some weirdo who pretended to have a baby. Gross.
@DuchessOfCambridge I think that they had suspected it for awhile but then when the "spouse" came in they just couldn't hold it in and someone called then out on it. It's hard to read because some of the posts are gone now. There came a point where it was hard to follow
@bcashaw yeah it was def hard to read, I forgot about the deleted post. @ugoglencoco just so you know, I won't be posting pics of myself/baby on here either But prob will in private FB group one day.
@bcashaw I'm pretty private on here because you never know who is lurking. I often go back and take down pictures I've posted before the month edit time is up just in case. Also, I don't want my baby's ultrasound to be TB's property. It's my property! It's my baby!

@DuchessOfCambridge your caution is totally valid and I understand where you're coming from. I have concerns about my child privacy but for some reason mine isn't that big of a deal to me. I know a lot of people have used my photos for things and so it's not like I'm anonymous to the Internet by any means. My private photos I like to keep private so I don't post them. I didn't even think about the ultrasound thing but to be honest all ultrasounds look the same to me

I don't understand why someone would fake being pregnant. That makes no sense to me. I can sort of understand catfishing your date but the bump? Really???
@baycamp I've heard the same thing about painful waxes. I've had brazillians done before no problem but during pregnancy I'll just get the sides done and trim the rest down myself.
I overshare because I don't have friends (my SIL and bff can only take so much) and I hate socializing in person (thanks social anxiety). I hope y'all don't think it's me...
@DuchessOfCambridge I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way about photos. I'm a generally private person so probably won't be posting pics or ultrasounds here, and I don't share a whole lot about my life/job/location etc. But I promise I'm not a catfish!!
Been feeling crappy today with some kind of stomach bug. I know something has been going around work, like a 24 hour bug, but I'm also worried it could be something I ate. We went out for Mexican yesterday. Usually that wouldn't bother me...but it was a different restaurant than usual. Everything was fully cooked though, except the guacamole, and I didn't have any meat at all. It seems to be settling down now...should I be worried enough to call the doc, even though it didn't last long?
On a random note, I got a new kind of greek yogurt and it sucks but I have to eat it. Usually I get the big tubs of vanilla Chobani but got a few cups of the vanilla Yoplait Greek 100 protein. Tastes like garbage.
@liz4382 I had some intense stomach pain last night after dinner but it went away after a while. I got a jar of alfredo sauce instead of making my own and then remembered that I'm pretty sure I stopped buying it because it made me sick before. If the pain goes away and you're not vomiting/having enough diarrhea to make you dehydrated then I don't think it's a concern (just unfortunate and uncomfortable).
@duchessofcambridge the difference is you wouldn't make up excuses. And this person would. All the time. But it was the cake photos that ended up being fake too and that's how people found out. I would never think you're a catfish! Lol
@slaven thanks--that helps ease my mind a little. It's not bad enough that I would normally call the doc, but in my head I'm like "what if it's listeria!!" But I feel like it would last longer and be more severe if it was.
I don't share photos either. My life and my kids are not yours to profit from, or worse, judge or laugh at.
Eta if you piece together some clues you might be able to figure out what state I'm from. But if you did and you posted it on a thread I would deny and then hold against you. If you're super curious if you've figured it out, you can pm me and I might tell you. But I'm assuming none of you care that much, so that's the end of it lol
@DuchessOfCambridge The more I thought about it and woke up (it's currently 6:40 am here) I realized I was just being paranoid. Lack of coffee sucks sometimes haha.
@slaven I make my own alfredo sauce too! I don't cook often since SO really enjoys cooking, but I think alfredo out of a jar is gross...and alfredo isn't something he makes well.
@slaven@Perfectypo I also have no friends where I live! My bff (across the country) is getting married and fighting for custody all taking place next month so she's got her own worries. I can't bother her with everything.
When I first joined here I had no idea what catfishing was, but I DID think within 1-2 weeks that maybe there were some bots on here. Like fake people to start or keep convos going, but paid by the bump. Not just random people pretending to be pg, but specifically paid posters who do it for a day job and probably have several profiles that they maintain. I have zero reason to believe this except how it happens on other sites/apps (Instagram etc.) Then I learned about catfishing and was like Mind. Blown. Brings it to a whole new level!
