@AdaByron it was probably your finger, I checked mine it was 200 and mine is usually low so I was shocked, I washed my hands and then did it again and it was 112.

@AdaByron same thing happened to me after breakfast, I checked mine and wiped my finger with alcohol and it was 137, washed my hands with soap and water and measured again and it was 107 in a matter of maybe a minute, checked a third time with another device and it was 105 which is pretty close to 107 so I discarded the 137

I learned the hard way that if you don't let the alcohol dry all the way it will throw your numbers off. But that's not what happened today. I think I just have had something left on my finger from eating apple slices at lunch or something.

Lurker, but wanted to mention in case any ladies weren't doing so, is that you should wipe away first drop of blood and use the second drop for testing. that's how I was trained at work (nurse) because the results are more accurate. We use guaze pads, but clean tissue or cotton ball will work (don't use the alcohol wipe)

I've been logging my food and testing my levels 4 times a day since failing my 3 hour test 2 weeks ago. I put myself on a low carb diet but still eating about 15-20 g of carbs per meal and about 10-15 per snack; followed that plan for 2 weeks while I waited for my appointment at the diabetes center and had beautiful numbers.

Last friday I was told at the nutrition class that I needed to up my carb intake to 30g for breakfast, 22g for each snack and 45g for both lunch and dinner in order to avoid ketones. I've been following their plan and I'm getting consistantly high numbers almost every time. My fasting glucose was 108 this morning and 144 mg/dL 2 hours after breakfast. I'm calling my doctor tomorrow but I'm just curious if those are the amounts some of you were given. I mean, I'm 5'1" and I honestly think carb intake should be proportioned to height, age and weight, I cannot need the same amount of carbs as a person who is 5'10" and these group classes are pretty generic.

ETA: type of carbs I'm eating whole wheat bread, 2% milk, fruit just berries, apple and tangerine. Quinoa over rice.

@fiorip I was told 30g for breakfast and snacks, 45 for lunch and 45-60 for dinner.

In addition to tweaking how much you eat (with guidance from your doctor) I would experiment with adding more protein to each meal, and changing up what TYPE of carbs you're eating (whole grain vs white bread vs fruit).

If there's just one time of day your numbers are high, maybe you can just go lower-carb for that meal.

@AdaByron my biggest issue has been breakfast, an usual breakfast for me used to be scrambled eggs with 1/4 cup blueberries and a glass of milk but I was told I had to add at least a toast or more fruit to that, now I went from 114, 118 to 122, 133 even 144 after breakfast. Same thing with dinner and the after dinner snack that I wasn't eating that's been affecting my fasting glucose. Friday night I skipped the after dinner snack and fasting glucose was 85, last night I had a glass of milk around 11:30 pm and this morning fasting glucose was 108. It's really frustrating because I'm eating healthy quality food, if I was eating French fries and burguers I wouldn't be complaining but I'm not and I haven't the entire pregnancy, I've only gained 10 pounds from my starting weight and I'm already 31.3 weeks

@fiorip don't be afraid to experiment with your meals. GD becomes harder to control later in pregnancy, so it could be partially due to that as well as the diet changes. If it was me, I'd probably go back to your old breakfast routine if it was working. But I'm not a doctor...

Interesting, I guess we're all on different diets depending on what our OBs/nutritionists are used to prescribing. For example, I'm not allowed to eat fruit or dairy in the mornings at all. Just one 15-20g serving of carbs (usually wheat toast), 3 ounces of protein (scrambled eggs) and 1 serving of fat (margarine/butter on my toast) and as a result, my breakfast number has never been above 120.

@fiorip ask your doctor if it's alright to try all-natural cinnamon pills. I was amazed what they did to my numbers!

@lanie1000, my fasting numbers are the only ones I can't control with diet. Doctor put me on glyburide pills at night and that keeps numbers down. Still need a bedtime snack and sometimes I am low in the night, but 90% of the time I wake up to 70's or 80's. If I sleep too long, numbers go up though. It helps to keep a tight sleep schedule.

@Kmomof3 yep. That makes two of us! The cinnamon pills got me from around 105 to 95 at night, but my GD specialist still wasn't happy so they put me on a low dose of glyburide and now I'm in the mid-80s.

I've noticed the same thing with sleeping in (trying to enjoy as much of that as possible on weekends before the baby arrives). So I wake up briefly to test while still in bed then go back to sleep. I find if I record my number later I can usually fall back to sleep for another hour or so.

Thankfully passed the 1 hour test so don't have to do the 3 hour test. Possible anemia though but I did my blood work last Tuesday and no call from the midwife yet so don't think they're concerned (I checked my blood work results online myself).
