How far along are you & how big is baby?  27 weeks! (Hello third trimester!!) The size of a camping lantern

Upcoming appointments? The end of May

Symptoms?  I think I'm getting a sinus infection so all that stuff.

Cravings?  Anything I don't have to cook mostly

Rants/Raves/Questions?  I don't understand why german appliances are so fricken small!! Seriously my german washer takes about 1/2 the load of a standard US washer and becuase it's "high efficiency"  it takes 2 fricken hours to wash my clothes. God forbid you need to wash something on hot becuase then it's 3 hours. The dryer is a condensed dryer and it takes about 2 hours to "mostly" dry the laundry. That's between 4 and 5 hours for ONE LOAD OF LAUNDRY. End rant.

GTKY: what is something you want to do differently from how you were raised? I really want to try not to argue in front of my kids. My parents were always yelling at each other when we were smaller. They've since learned how to talk about their issues but growing up it was really toxic.

    25 weeks - cauliflower

    Upcoming appointments?
Friday.  I should be scheduling my c-section then.  Time needs to slow down.

    Symptoms?
Isomnia as usual and I'm starting to feel some aches and pains in my lower back/sciatica.  I hope it's just a fluke because I had been feeling really good in the second trimester.

    Cravings?
    Fruit and chocolate.

    Rants/Raves/Questions?
I feel like I still have so much to do, but I'm so glad DH and BIL rearranged the bedrooms yesterday.  The boys are now sharing a room and that will hopefully go well.  They seemed happy last night.  I feel less stressed now that the rooms are moved around, but there's still several things I need to cross off the list soon like buying a crib.  I want to get as much done while I still feel pretty good plus we're so busy on the weekends in June and half of July.

GTKY: what is something you want to do differently from how you were raised?
My parents spoiled me and let me get away too much especially the way I treated them.  While I turned out ok overall, I should've been far more respectful when I was younger.  DS2 definitely gives us a run for our money, but we try to put our foot down with him and stay consistent with discipline.  I think he's my revenge for being a difficult child to my parents, but I hope to handle him differently.

How far along are you & how big is baby?
    27 weeks bunch of bananas
    Upcoming appointments?   Next week

    Symptoms?  Headaches, achy, moody

    Cravings?  Sweets. Especially ice cream

Rants/Raves/Questions?   How does the house always seem to be destroyed?  I swear I tidy the same things a bazillion times.

GTKY: what is something you want to do differently from how you were raised?       My mom was a lecturer about things I didn't need to be lectured on- I was a painfully good kid and still got the mom lectures about it everything.
  • Happy Mother's Day!

How far along are you & how big is baby?   24 weeks / Cantaloupe

Upcoming appointments?   Not until the end of the month.

Symptoms?  M/S, nausea, heartburn, fatigue - all that fun stuff.

Cravings?  I've been eating apples like crazy the last two weeks.

Rants/Raves/Questions?   Any recommendations on double strollers?

GTKY: what is something you want to do differently from how you were raised?   I am very fortunate to have had a pretty awesome childhood. Both of my parents have always worked though, and I was in daycare/afterschool-care/summer camp/away from home often. I worked in research for 15 years, and became a SAHM before having DD (baby #3) in 2015 & will continue to stay at home until all my kids, including this LO, are in school.

Happy Mother's day to you too @PinkPrincessPiper

@MetsGirl18 that would be the same thing my DH would change. His Dad walked out when he was really small so everyone decided to spoil him to try and make up for it. It's made him wildly irresponsible with money. He's gotten a bit better but I've still gotta watch him like a kid sometimes.

How far along are you & how big is baby?   27 weeks - bunch of bananas

Upcoming appointments?   Nothing until June 11th

Symptoms?  Not many - sleeping is getting a little tough.

    Cravings?  Ice cream.

Rants/Raves/Questions?   We had one of the two prenatal class sessions yesterday - this one was labour and delivery. It was pretty good - DH really liked it too.

GTKY: what is something you want to do differently from how you were raised?
My mother was an interior decorator and so everything had a place and sometimes it was a little suffocating. I appreciate a clean house but I'd like to be able to let that go sometimes and clean up later - not have it always on my mind.

How far along are you & how big is baby?   27 weeks and a bunch of bananas

Upcoming appointments?   I need to schedule my GD test in the next couple weeks

Symptoms?  Achy back and hips, heartburn

    Cravings?  Not anything specific

Rants/Raves/Questions?   I'm so over work right now. It's the usual May burnout I get every school year.

GTKY: what is something you want to do differently from how you were raised?  No religion. I grew up feeling guilty about a lot of things I shouldn't have (I was a really good kid). It also meant I never had important discussions with my parents because I think they assumed the church would take care of the tough topics.

  • How far along are you & how big is baby?

26 Weeks...I dunno. Forgot to look and I hate the phone app so I'm not backing out of this to check.

    Upcoming appointments?

    Friday. Glucose test.

    Symptoms?

Braxton Hicks still. Heartburn. Interrupted sleep.

    Cravings?

    None.

    Rants/Raves/Questions?

Today is Mother's Day and I asked my brother and sister (neither who have children) if they were planning on going to church to sit with my grandmother today. I didn't want her to be alone, but I was scheduled to work nursery today at my own church. Neither of them answered my text. We all have the Life360 app on our phones, so I can see they've both been home all day. So, my grandma had no family with her this morning.

It's just typical. My parents and aunt live out of town, so they aren't here and I feel like I am the one who takes on the responsibility of their absence.

GTKY: what is something you want to do differently from how you were raised?

My dad could come across as a little "scary" when he was angry. I understand him more than my siblings do, so I know his heart was in the right place, but he was unapproachable. I want my kids to respect me, but. It fear me.
  • How far along are you & how big is baby?
    25 weeks! He's cauliflower size.

    Upcoming appointments?
Not for a week or two

    Symptoms?
    Hunger and heartburn

    Cravings?
    Fountain Coke from McDonald's

    Rants/Raves/Questions?
Last year Destination Maternity had four quarterly warehouse sales at their NJ headquarters. I heard from a friend the sales were amazing and you could get an entire wardrobe for a steal. It's now been over six months since they've held a sale and I'm starting to think there won't be one anytime soon. I'm not loving maternity shopping in general and was looking forward to trying to get it all done at once. I wanted to round out my maternity wardrobe so I'd be all set for the remainder of this pregnancy and the next.

GTKY: what is something you want to do differently from how you were raised?
I'd like to be more available in the afternoons and evenings. My mom worked in nyc and her commute kept her from getting home until pretty late. It sucked that it limited my time with her and also really restricted my ability to do a lot of activities because I often had no way to get there or get home. Because of that I'm actually looking forward to being mom's taxi service for our kids.

I'm ALWAYS a day late, our Mother's day celebration went from 12 noon - 9pm, so I didn't get to this.

How far along are you & how big is baby?
26 weeks and a bowling pin LOL

Upcoming appointments?   1 hr Glucose testing next week (5/25)

Symptoms?  So after waiting more than a week for my blood results the OB GYN clinic calls me today (5/15) on my BIRTHDAY to tell me I'm positive for Alpha Thalassemia (a blood disorder that reduces the production of normal hemoglobin the protein in red blood cells, that carries oxygen to cells throughout the body).

I was dizzy last Thursday at work and my husband picked me up, ended up being dizzy for almost 5 hours. They couldn't rule what it was until today. HOW FUN! So now they need my DH to go to Quest Diagnostics to get his blood evaluation for the "
Alpha Thalassemia DNA Mutation Analysis" (per the blood request sheet).

Cravings?  Salad! I want this one salad from a local restaurant called Sweet Pete's. It's an her crusted mahi on top of arugula, candied pecans, pickled onions, orange golden tomatoes, and pommery mustard vinergarette. OMG it tastes sooooo good!

Rants/Raves/Questions?   Other than being worried about Alpha Thalassemia. Anyone here have this blood disorder? I hope my DH isn't a carrier. The nurse went on to talk about a rare disorder due to Alpha Thalassemia (then she retracks and says don't go online googling it. LOL why did you tell me this then?! but I'm seriously not reading more than I need to. KEEPING POSITIVE!)

GTKY: what is something you want to do differently from how you were raised?   My Dad is a retired Navy guy so he often spoke to me and my brother in his stern voice when he was trying to emphasize something or when we were in trouble. Yes it made us stay in line but I probably won't do that to our kids. Funny thing is both me and DH were raised as Navy kiddos and stern Navy Dads lol.

@dma0389 - I hope you hear quickly about the blood disorder for DH's test. I haven't had that experience (although the doctor said we'd check for it if I end up anemic during pregnancy...took the test to see if I am today) but I went through the same thing with cystic fibrosis. I am a carrier and the two weeks between finding out, getting DH's lab order, getting him in for the test, and waiting for the results were torture (and filled with googling). He was not a carrier which was a huge relief but I felt so out of control while waiting (and a bit guilty that I was a carrier even though that was irrational).

@dma0389 hope your DH comes back negative! It's insane to me you've gone all this time undiagnosed. I've got a friend with this and she has to get blood transfusions so im glad your doesn't seem to be so severe. Happy Birthday!! Sorry you got such hard news on such a happy day.

    Happy Birthday!!! @JWatt5

  • @PinkPrincessPiper I see double strollers asked about a lot on a local mom's FB page. The Baby Jogger City Select is always the top recommended, followed by the Contours one, followed by a sit & stand one.

Happy Belated birthday @JWatt5!! Hope your Bday on a monday was good. Mondays are such a drag! Thanks for the love!

@Nxy Hope so too! He's getting his blood drawn today at 11:15am and then there's the waiting game. I told myself to relax and stop googling things lol. GOOGLE is both good and bad lol.

@kvh22 Oh I feel you. The waiting game is the worst! It took like 11 days to just hear my results (business and including weekend days). Now DH is taking his today and then waiting around again. I told myself to keep clear from WedMD and Googling lol. Glad your DH was not a carrier, and I know what you mean about being a bit guilty about being a carrier even though it is irrational. Eh, it's human nature....but we are still awesome Mommies!

@SpotConlon I had that talk with DH the other day. I suggested to him that we should try not to enforce a specific religion to our children. My family was half catholic (dad side) and half non-denominational christian (mom side). My mom's side were hardcore and would say things that were irrational. Both families would suggest their faith was correct than the other and me brother & I grew up being raised the religion my parents enforced on us. I remember in high school my parents telling me "as long as you're under our roof, you go to our church!" (my mom converted my cathoilic faith dad to her non-denom christian church.) That still sticks in my brain, granted I dearly LOVE my parents and they are awesome, but this time around Religion will not be a one way street.

  • @dma0389 I was raised Mormon and much of my family still is. It's just such an all-encompassing church that takes up tons of time on Sundays (3 hours--and that's excluding any meetings if you're in a leadership position!) and as a kid/teenager, time during the week as well. Not to mention that it's kind of just...weird (for lack of a quick explanation for why I stopped going). It means I have to have awkward conversations with my family once in a while, like when my mom asked if I was going to have our baby blessed in church. I had to try so hard not to laugh--of course I'm not! Also, my husband isn't even Mormon.

I see the appeal of having a community, but I've gone to enough church for a lifetime, and quite frankly, I don't believe in much of anything religious anymore. I'd rather stay in my jammies on Sunday.
