Baby shower must haves

It's getting to the time where some people be planning or setting dates for baby showers! As we look through the baby items and register, it can feel overwhelming!

What are your must have baby registry items or what will you be putting on it? STM, anything you want this time you didn't have last time? FTM, have questions about registry items? Any cool, fun, or unique things to share that others might be interested in?

Re: Baby shower must haves

  • I really want the mama roo swing this time around! DD hated her traditional swing so hoping this one is better liked! I want to pump this time, so I need bottles. Last time I did pure boob and it was constricting! Any recommendations on bottles?

I also want the 3 sided co sleeping crib since LO will prob be in our bedroom longer since we're 3 bedrooms until we move.

I want muslin swaddle blankets!! Having a hard time finding cute print for boys! Suggestions?

Anyone use the bottle warmer machine? Contemplating if the purchase is worth it! Does it work with pumping?

  • @carries2018 interesting, I haven't seen anything in relation to baby showers, and what people will be registering for!

  • @carries2018 well, if it's a repeat on baby shower registry, apologies. I'll look in weekly random.

If it's not, I'd love to hear everyone's registry items! I'm registering this weekend and would love to hear some ideas!

For DD I breastfed but starting at around 2.5 months we introduced bottles so she could have one bottle a day of pumped milk (so husband could feed her too and so she would get used to a bottle also in case we ever truly needed them). We tried a couple of kinds and she didn't love them and so she would take FOREVER to finish the bottle. We finally found a winner with the Comotomo bottles. They aren't cheap but are so worth it. They have the shape and feel more like a real boob nipple so I think that helped. It also has two holes (rather than just the one like most bottles have) where the milk comes out which mimics more what real breasts do as well.

I used the Aden + Anais brand muscling swaddle blankets. They didn't get much use after all because DD was a swaddle Houdini and could bust out of even the heavy duty contraptions eventually. But the A + A brand ones have tons of cute patterns. Check amazon or buy buy baby online.

I never used a bottle warmer. Didn't take too long to warm the milk bags in just hot water. Plus I'm not sure the comotomo bottles can be used with warmers. I think they have a disclaimer that says they were never tested with warmers.

*edited because I hit post before I finished writing.
  • I kept mine simple and told my sisters who were organising a couple of big ticket items that I wanted. Some people chipped in for that but the majority enjoyed baby shopping and finding whatever they wanted. For a FTM, everything I got was fun or useful. I only got too many blankets and too many stuffed toys in the end.

  • Necessities : diapers, wipes, diaper bag, sleepers that zip, undershirts, someplace for baby to sleep, car seat, 1 travel thing (carrier, stroller, ring sling) 1 warm hat and blanket for going out on cool days, 1 brimmed hat for going out on sunny days, 1 hat and light cardigan,  1 or 2 light blankets, thermometer, nose sucker, washcloth and towel, baby wash and lotion, whatever you need to feed baby (bottles, pump, formula, nursing cover, burp rags)

Nice to have: extra sheets, a few nicer outfits for special occasions, floor mat/ baby gym, at least 1 safe place to lay baby in each room you spend significant time in (e.g. bedroom, living room, family room) or if your house has multiple floors, 1 per level, outerwear (such as a fleece bunting or snowsuit) if you anticipate being out or having to walk places in the cold (DONT put baby in car seat with heavy outerwear on), some fun acessories if it's a girl (mostly hairbows...I might be somewhat of a bow addict), baby meds (something for tummies, tylenol, baby saline), a mat or blanket for baby to have floor time on, portable changing pads (the kind you can roll up/velcro and put anywhere, velcro swaddles (even if you don't use these for sleep, i used them for example, when dd2 had pink eye and had to get ointment and then not rub it for a few minutes....especially when dh wasn't home to help hold her hands).

Everything else is personal preference.  Some people love a diaper pail; others don't.  Some babies love certain bouncers/rockers/seats/ swings.  Some scream bloody murder if you even try to strap them into something.  Some babies take a pacifier.  Some never get the hang of it.  Some get teeth early and start chewing them to pieces.

  • Thanks everyone for the comments! I will be back to post individually later today!

@jessafishy yes, I am having a second. My mom and mother in law are throwing a second. I had a girl first (4 years ago), and I'm having a boy this time, so our families both thought I should do  another. We are super close with both sides, and everyone is super giving and gracious, so we got fortunate in that aspect. I know a lot of moms do "sprinkles" for their second. On their own.

  • Something about this thread was really irritating to me but I couldn't put my finger on it, I think I just figured it out.

Nothing is really a "Baby Shower Must Have" because no one is obligated to buy you anything or to stick to your registry. They are gifts so cannot be "must haves".

I think you meant registry must haves in which case, as @carries2018 mentioned, there are already several threads where this is being discussed. It really is okay to comment for others instead of always starting your own threads.
But, but, but then how does one AW oneself??
We just get on the leader board every week. XD
    OH YA! I forgot ;)

  • I love that this turned into a Britney gif party! Well done ladies!
