  • 1) How far along are you/when is your due date?
    15+5

    2) What symptoms are you having? How are you feeling?
i've started to get some headaches, still super tired at the end of the day

    3) How does it compare to your previous pregnancy/pregnancies?
headaches are new otherwise completely the same.  oh, i am showing way quicker than last time!

    4) Rant/Rave/Questions?
I was told to get a NT scan last week even though i had a Maternit21 Plus blood test.  I just got a bill for the u/s because it was deemed elective.  wtf?  i never would have opted for it if it was elective.  i am going to fight this one for sure.

    5) GTKY: When you were a kid what did you want to name your future children?
austin and sierra.  no and no. lol

  • @lola4411 my practice it is policy to do the NT scan with the blood test.

  • 1) How far along are you/when is your due date? 14 weeks - Oct. 31st

    2) What symptoms are you having? How are you feeling? Feeling a bit better now actually.

    3) How does it compare to your previous pregnancy/pregnancies? I'm showing a lot sooner this time around.

    4) Rant/Rave/Questions? None

    5) GTKY: When you were a kid what did you want to name your future children? I always liked names that were initials like TJ or AJ. Then I learnt that they are most likely abbreviating two names to make the initials LOL
  • @dajocl I am debating Makena at the moment.  Would you mind sharing a little bit more of your story and history that led to using Makena?

The doc and I just discussed Makena (weekly progesterone shots for those with a history of premature births, for those unfamiliar) yesterday.  I am 17 weeks, 3 days, and he recommended that I start immediately.  As this was the first time we had discussed it and I had no idea what it was, I told him that I wanted to have my cervix measured first (as I haven't had an ultrasound yet) and he seemed satisfied with looking at that angle first.  A shortened cervix is a good sign that a woman is headed towards pre-term labor.  So we bumped up my a/s to 19 weeks to  look at my cervix.

My history was a twin pregnancy where my water broke at 33 weeks and a singleton where my water broke right at 37 weeks.  The twin pregnancy ordinarily wouldn't provide us any information about what to expect, but my water breaking at 37 weeks for my singleton provides additional evidence that I am prone to premature labor.

I thought I was being clever at wanting to look at my cervix first, but after reading, if my cervix is in fact shortened (which it wasn't at the a/s for either of my previous pregnancies), we may be looking at vaginal progesterone, rather than the injection.  So, perhaps I should have just started my progesterone shots yesterday.

@aprilsarahjune I don't mind sharing at all! Things started going downhill when I had spotting at 33 weeks, I went in and it was a terrible experience... the doctor was just terrible and tried to send me home telling me it was nothing. Another doctor stepped in and told her that was a terrible idea and so they monitored me for 8 hours. Apparently my contractions were within what they considered normal and decided to send me home with the instructions to "Take it easy for the rest of the day." Which I obviously did. Then 6 days later, at 34 weeks, my water broke and DS was born 28 hours later.

I knew about Makena going into this pregnancy and had done some research, so I was already leaning towards doing it, and after my conversation with my doctor it was easy to decide to do it. She told me that I was a perfect candidate for it because I had a preterm singleton. Explained that it only gives me a 40% chance of keeping the baby in longer according to studies. She told me that the vaginal suppositories have not been studied enough and it was only the injections they knew for sure were helping. Not that there was anything wrong with taking it vaginally but she felt more confident in the injections.

With no real risk to the baby or to me, I feel like it would be silly for me not to take it. Granted it's all covered by insurance so I'm not paying any extra for it either. I doubt we would have let the cost stop me from taking it but it did make the decision even easier.

I wish I had more insight about the shortened cervix, but I have no idea if that played into anything with me. I know it wasn't mentioned last time and it hasn't been talked about this time. I'm just willing to do whatever I can to hopefully avoid NICU time again. I can't imagine handling it while having a toddler at home.

I hope they are able to tell you more about your cervix and make things easier for you to decide. Hugs to you in all of this.

  • ) How far along are you/when is your due date? 19 weeks tomorrow

    2) What symptoms are you having? How are you feeling? Vomiting and nausea still, heartburn, bad hip and back pain, and waking 6+ times a night to pee already.

    3) How does it compare to your previous pregnancy/pregnancies? My 1st was so easy. I honestly never realized how rough it could be.

    4) Rant/Rave/Questions? DO and I got into a fight on Friday and Saturday because he has been treating me like I'm not even pregnant.  Plus he's being super selfish on top of it.

    5) GTKY: When you were a kid what did you want to name your future children? I actually never wanted kids or to get married when I was younger. That phase didn't come till I was in my early 20s. But then I liked Genesis for a girl and a lot of Harry Potter names for boys lol.

  • @dajocl
Thank you for sharing!  Did you get the shot today?  How did it go?

I think I am going to get the shot started ASAP.  I talked to my insurance on Friday and learned that neither Makena nor the off-brand "mesna" is covered.  Strangely, the rep that I talked to said that "progesterone injections" are covered, so I am not sure where that leaves me.  Calling the doc's office next to see what they recommend.

@azerimama The peeing all the time bit is exhausting in itself, without being woken up multiple times!  DDs had a performance this weekend and I had to sit for 2 hours straight - I had to pee so badly!

@aprilsarahjune I hope insurance can get stuff figured out for you! I've heard of some covering p17 which I believe is just another generic. I don't know much other than that as far as generics go. Fingers crossed for you.

It went pretty well today, no pain during the injection. But the nurse said come 6-7 weeks from now, I'll probably start feeling the pain. There's only two spots they can rotate between so eventually it gets more sore. I have had what I'll call abdominal tightness today so that's definitely weird. Not cramping, just a fullness and it's not all in my uterus either, so just enjoying that. Here's to hoping that's the worst of it!

  • OMG I'm so incredibly late this week...the last 2 weeks have been crazy at work, which is where I usually catch up on all Bump threads

    1) How far along are you/when is your due date? 17 wks, 6 days
    2) What symptoms are you having? How are you feeling? I have some insomnia (like once a week), but otherwise no complaints.
    3) How does it compare to your previous pregnancy/pregnancies? At this point it feels about the same, though I'm showing much sooner this time and its going by much faster.
    4) Rant/Rave/Questions? Since I'm no longer nauseous all the time and don't really have any consistent pregnancy symptoms, I now worry all the time about whether baby girl is ok...why can't I just enjoy feeling good?
    5) GTKY: When you were a kid what did you want to name your future children? I had a baby names book around 8-9 years old...I wish I still had it because I was obsessed with picking out names (circled, underlined, etc), but there were so many I couldn't tell you which was a favorite at this point.  I know in high school I loved the names Jeremiah and Noah,

  • @MCraig1484 It's hard to not get anxious. The appointments are still far apart and the baby is still too small to be feeling kicks everyday (if any). It's normal to worry but trust that all is well and enjoy.

@azerimama I'm sorry your SO isn't being gentle. My DH isn't as attentive this time round either and I feel like he hasn't put my needs before his as much he should be.
