UO 5/4

Re: UO 5/4

  • We're not too far from a drive in and even though it runs like a complete shit show, I really love going! It's always a double feature and new release movie. It's a fun date night activity for us that we try to do at least once a year. (Helps that it's really easy to sneak in drinks.)

    @Nxy have you tried the Hola plugin for Netflix? Let's you watch any country's version of Netflix.

    @tova24 most VPN services don't work to unblock netflix anymore. Maybe they still work if you're in the US trying to access other countries netflix as I imagine that's less common. We had been using Kodi to stream but the EU just voted that "illegal streaming" is something they can fine you for like illegal downloading.. Now I'm setting up a VPN to run my firestick on but we'll see. Lack of US TV is honestly one of my biggest complaints about living here (which really says a lot about how little I have to complain about lol).

    @Nxy I am so sorry!
  • Even with the reclining chairs, full service restaurants inside (including beer), etc I have no desire to go to the movies. I went to one movie when pregnant with DD in 2014 and one last summer with some moms (we watched Bad Moms). We have gift cards sitting here too...

  • I think movies are so much better in the theater. I'll see a movie again at home and wonder why I thought it was so great. We see all the new kids movies during the Saturday matinee and it's only $14 for our family. We are also big on the drive in, but we can't do it often with a toddler because staying up until midnight never ends well.

    @middy411 I didn't feel like I was competing with the other ladies to arrive first at viability. I used a gif for "still waiting over here" because I was not at 24wks yet. I'm enjoying every second of my pregnancy and couldn't care less about other people giving birth. No shit people that got pregnant before me will - hopefully and most likely- give birth first, that's how gestation works. I still don't understand the competition idea you brought up. Human gestation should take 38-42 wks, there's no practice and training to make it shorter!
  • @livlew-2 Yes. Quite obviously. The point is not that I expect or want my pregnancy to be any shorter than a full term one. Just jealousy and a feeling of being "behind" when I see so many babies being born. I'm "still waiting over here" because my baby hasn't been born. That's all I was admitting

    @middy411 that's make more sense than comparing your pregnancy to a race and feeling pressure to stay ahead. I definitely understand if you say that you're jealous because you are anxious to meet your LO. That do make sense. Comparing your idea of race to me waiting for my pregnancy milestones do not. "I'm just waiting over here", not jealous, not feeling behind, not competing with anyone, because we're all waiting for our LOs, I guess that's what expecting means.
    But, hey, that's your UO. You can definitely stand on the podium and get your medal when you finish this race. My UO is that I don't understand comparing pregnancy to a sport where there are winners and losers.
  • @PinkPrincessPiper,

    I want your movie theater!

    @PinkPrincessPiper,

    I want your movie theater!
    One of the perks of living in a big city!
  • I literally just saw a pregnant friend post on another friend's birth announcement "aww man, you beat me!". I don't think it's nearly as serious as some are making it out to be. Just a lighthearted way of saying I'm jealous that you have your sweet baby and I'm still waiting. Nobody wants a medal or thinks people are losers or winners if they have babies at different times.
  • I feel like the only one who wouldn't mind being pregnant for another year or so. I'm barely showing, my only real physical discomfort is my new giant rack, but mostly I am feeling so underprepared! I'm a FTM and I'm reading everything I can and carefully curating my registry and I have family in town for lots of support, but it's scary that everything is about to change in just a few months. I am totally excited to meet this baby, but if it feels like going to 68 weeks or 125 weeks I'll still not be ready for the psychological effects of being a first time parent.
  • @dinofreak I feel the same as you! Barely showing and when people ask if I'm over being pregnant yet I just tell them no because I haven't had any negative symptoms really. Like you, I don't feel prepared yet. Haven't bought anything for baby or began setting up the nursery and I still haven't really started on my registry. Maybe once I really start showing I'll get kicked into high gear to start preparing.
  • Late to the game, as usual! My internet connection at my house is slow as molasses in wintertime, and on my cell phone, The Bump drains my battery, so I can't bump as much a I would like to unless I'm hooked up to a charger.

    My UO is that I have zero issues with people rubbing my belly. I am a generally very open person and don't have a big personal space "bubble". I'm a hugger and a touchy-feely person and so to me it isn't weird and doesn't creep me out. (This would be different if it were men trying to touch me, but that doesn't happen, thank goodness!)

    I totally don't judge those who hate it, though. I get it. I've accepted that I'm different than most in feeling that way.
  • @AdvoCyndi30 I'm right there with you. Everyone at work wants to touch my belly and I don't care at all. I feel the complete opposite about after she's born though. I will be pretty particular then.
