Re: FTM Check-In 5/2

  • How far along are you? 4 weeks 4 days.

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go? None so far. My first appt is scheduled May 25th, but I may need to reschedule due to training.

    Cravings? None so far.

Rants/Raves? Rave: I'm so excited to be here and to become a FTM! :) Rant: Not so excited about all the symptoms I've been experiencing. I've been pretty bloated and am having some serious nausea.

Questions for FTM, STM+? For all the STM+, did anyone else have nausea this early in their pregnancy their first time round? Or is anyone else already experiencing nausea? I've read online most ladies don't start experiencing nausea until week 6.

    GTKY: Describe your dream vacation.
My dream vacation would probably involve both hanging out by a beach and also sight seeing. I love the beach, but would get bored if I lounged around all day my entire vacation!

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go? Kaiser does a phone appointment as soon as you tell them you're pregnant. That went well last week. I had a bunch of tests done in October and she said that those results, plus what I've told her, make her think I'm a low risk pregnancy and that she didn't have anything she was worried about. Yay! We have our first ultrasound booked for the 24th.

Cravings? Salty- gold fish crackers. Protein- String cheese, lentils, yogurt. I feel like i've been eating like a kindergartner with all the goldfish and string cheese I've gone through in the past week :P I also have a craving for those gummy frogs with the white side.... soooo random

Rants/Raves? I'm exhausted, but for the past two days I haven't been able to sleep. Allergies and almost 90 degree weather haven't been helping.

Questions for FTM, STM+? None at the moment.

GTKY: Describe your dream vacation. My honeymoon in Thailand was pretty close to a dream vacation. We'd lay by the beach/pool one day, then go on adventures the next day (snorkling, elephants, temple tour, etc...). I'd just want it longer and maybe explore a few more areas of Thailand.

  • How far along are you?  4wks 5 or 6 days depending on what I've googled lol.  My first U/S is on the 10th and the dr will give me my official EDD

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go? I had my 3rd and final Beta yesterday, more than doubled from my 2nd beta at 884 so I'm almost able to breathe lol.

Cravings? biscuits and gravy.  I dont know if I can blame that on pregnancy, but it makes me way more likely to make it!

    Rants/Raves? not today!

Questions for STM+?  for any of you who have dealt with IF when did you calm down and really start to believe that you were actually going to get to bring home your little one? I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop and get a call that something is wrong and it was all a mistake.....

    GTKY: Describe your dream vacation
Either Bali in one of those over water bungalos or the total opposite and touring a big old city like Prague or London (London is my favorite city ever, I've been there more times than I can count --studied abroad in college and flew in and out of London almost every weekend, plus lots of trips back since)  DH and I usually do a trip once a year and alternate between active touring vacations and lounging on a beach or a cruise vacations!

    How far along are you?
    5 weeks today

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go?
Yesterday, I had my second beta, at 14dp5dt, and happy to see 1896!  It was 255 at 10d5dt.

    Cravings?
Fried chicken livers!  Fortunately, they're way high in folate, so I can pretend they're healthy.  To be fair, I kind of love them all the time, so it's not *just* a craving.

    Rants/Raves?
I'm just totally stunned to be here.

    Questions for FTM, STM+?
Do symptoms come and go?  Over the weekend, my boobs ached, and I felt kind of queasy and picky with my food (way unlike me).  Yesterday, I felt a lot better.  I was really worried about it, but my HCG came in high after I noticed I was feeling better.  I know it's a little early for symptoms to really be showing up.

    GTKY: Describe your dream vacation.
I'd like to travel around Europe and/or Asia for a few months, but stay in nice hotels instead of the cheap hostels, and eat ALL the food.

@MrsDorkCharming I am right there with you.  Exhausted at 2:30pm, but wide awake at 2:30am. If I'm at home, I've learned to put on this BBC series, Weird Wonders of the World, and couch nap, but I think that wouldn't go over so well at work.

@JuliaGoolia719 I wish I knew how to calm down my over-active worrying mind.  I know exactly what you mean.

@darkrose88 I had a little nausea over the weekend, but it's gone now.  I'm starting to wonder if it was just nerves and happy-stress from getting the BFP?
Me- 39 (turning 40 in April), TTC for the first time ever (since Jan 2015), low ovarian reserve
Married 3/14/14 to my wonderful wife, but her sperm count is rather low
TTC with frozen donor sperm and science

    7 IUIs, 7 BFNs.
2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs.
Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire.
Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus!
fresh 5 day transfer (2 embryos) 4/17/17- BFP!
Identical twins "due" 1/2/17 (but anticipated arrival sometime December)

  • How far along are you?
    4 weeks 6 days

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go?
Have had 2 beta's -W/F last week and it doubled.  :) I will have a 3rd this Friday to make sure they are continuing to rise.

    Cravings? None yet!

Rants/Raves? Rave: We weren't going to tell anyone yet but caved and I told my twin sister over the weekend. She just had her first baby in January so it was a big relief to talk with her (it was hard to keep from her anyway!). Rant: Insomnia! I am a nurse and work FT nights which doesn't help...

Questions for FTM, STM+?  I "felt pregnant" almost right away and started having tons of symptoms (peeing all the time, more nausea than now, cramping, etc) -they have majorly subsided but my HCG has continued to rise. We planned to start TTC next month but it just so happened we were a little early, so I was not "symptom watching" if that makes sense.

GTKY: Describe your dream vacation. Don't know if I have a dream vacation but DH and I have been talking about another European road trip like we did for our honeymoon, which was amazing!
  • How far along are you?
    3 weeks, 4 days

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go?
Nope. I'm calling on Friday to schedule my first appointment.

    Cravings?
    None.

    Rants/Raves?
I got my first faint positive yesterday but I really thought I was just seeing things but for sure wanted to test again this morning which means I didn't sleep at all last night because I was so anxious! It was such a great feeling to see what I knew for sure was a positive and I immediately told my husband.

    Questions for FTM, STM+?

    GTKY: Describe your dream vacation
Pretty much any cruise. Cruises are my absolute favorite way to travel. I would repeat our Alaskan cruise in a heartbeat.

  • STM here! So excited for all of you. I'm excited for myself too, of course... but being a FTM and the pregnancy is just THE BEST. Make sure you spoil yourself and ENJOY it. Do all of the extra 3D ultrasounds and pregnancy massages you can afford... and splurge on nice pregnancy lotions (I loved my anti-stretch mark one--and no stretchmarks!)

@KLake42 Yes! Symptoms totally come and go, especially this early! I know my boobs hurt some days and not others! And remember, sometimes you cannot feel well and have “symptoms” that are actually related to other things (tired, hungry, dehydrated, slept funny, etc). Also, great HCG numbers, girl!

@JuliaGoolia719  I did not deal with IF, but for me personally (a super anxious person by nature), seeing the heartbeat (around 7 weeks) was the “OMG this is real” moment with DD. I’m praying for that same thing this time!

@darkrose88 I’m not experiencing nausea with this one yet, but I had it immediately with DD—so at a little over four weeks and it lasted throughout the first trimester and made a hilarious brief reappearance in the third trimester. I am a believer in symptoms being a good, reassuring sign, so just hold on to that through the waves of nausea!

Another STM here: A big congrats to all of you. Being a FTM is so fun! I have to second @EmilyLove25 here: splurge on the prenatal massages once you're in the second and especially the third trimesters!

@darkrose88 I’ve have a little nausea already, and definitely had it this earlier with my second pregnancy too.  They say symptoms are good signs for sticky babes!  (But if it gets real bad you can talk to your care provider about Diclegis (it’s basically Unisom and B6) I had terrible third trimester morning sickness last time, and that helped me at least a little. I also thought the preggy pops with B6 were helpful for the lighter waves of nausea (e.g. no actual puking lol).

@KTLake42 symptoms definitely come and go.  Which can be a bit of an unfortunate mind-f sometimes.

  • gusgus14 DH and I have been talking about an Alaskan cruise, we really want to do one!  We've done 3 others in the Caribbean and have always had a blast.

rachelg777 we've been to Europe several times but we've never rented a car! I drive cross country for work (or I did until this happened, I need to tell work I'm going to not be doing that -- my job also includes climbing ladders and working 12 hour days for 21 days in a row which I don't see happening once I start to show and my center of gravity starts to shift) but for some reason driving in a foreign country freaks me out!

Together Let Us Seek the Heights

  • @KatieEl I've been nauseous but have not thrown up yet thankfully - so not quite at the point where I think I need prescription meds. But I will have to check out those preggy pops! :)

@EmilyLove25 I hope you're right about symptoms being a good sign! I'm still a little nervous about this pregnancy being a fluke, so I need all the good signs I can get.

@MrsDorkCharming Your honeymoon sounds amazing! I've always thought Thailand sounded like a fun place to visit.

@gusgus14 DH and I were literally just talking about going on an Alaskan cruise! My only concern would be motion sickness from being on the boat for a long period of time.

  • @JuliaGoolia719 My hubby is the always the driver in foreign countries! He's awesome! and eek yes please be careful! The trauma nurse in me is anti-ladder  ;)
  • @JulieGoolia719 First off, I remember you introducing yourself on the IF thread. Because your username was awesome. I love the wedding singer. One of my all time favs! Second, you are not alone in feeling nervous with the whole pregnant after IF. I'm terrified TBH. I'm not sure when the feeling will go away but I have a feeling it'll be around the time we hear a heartbeat/make it to 12 weeks.

@KLake42 I hear you about the symptoms coming and going. Over the weekend I had allll the symptoms. Today, only extreme exhaustion and tender nipples. I'm freaked out but I know the symptoms will vary, and come and go. We are still sow early, this is probably the calm before the storm!

How far along are you? 4+1

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go?
I had first beta on Monday along with a progesterone check. Everything looked great with a beta of 174.7 and progesterone at 29.1. I go back tomorrow morning and I'm super nervous, praying my numbers double.

Cravings? No yet!! Still feeling normal in the eating department.

Rants/Raves? Like PP's have said, is this real life?! Still cannot believe it!

Questions for FTM, STM+? None this week! I'll save them for when I feel more comfortable with believing in this little poppyseed.

    GTKY: Describe your dream vacation.
    Oh Europe for sure!
  • @darkrose88 - Yeah, I got really bad motion sickness our first full sea day so we ended up staying in bed all day and watching Top Chef. I will say though that I think sea bands (those stretchy wrist bands) help and if I had put mine on earlier I don't think I would have been as sick. Unfortunately, I started feeling it in the middle of the night and by then it was in full swing. Even with the sickness though it was worth it!
  • Hi Ladies! Another STM here. It's so exciting  (and nerve wracking) to be pregnant!

@darkrose88 I've started to feel some mild nausea this week  (4 weeks). I barely felt any with my first pregnancy  (didn't even know I was pregnant until 7 weeks).

@KLake42 Yes, symptoms come and go. There's so much going on physically and hormonally...

So excited to share this journey with you all!

4+1 or +2. Not exactly sure because my LMP had heavy spotting/ almost light flow April 3rd and normal on the 4th.

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go?
My first is tomorrow for a blood draw:)

    Cravings?
    mandarine oranges.

    Rants/Raves?
    Just still in shock

    Questions for FTM, STM+?
how long did you wait to tell close friends?

    GTKY: Describe your dream vacation.
    Ireland! That would be amazing:)
  • @madcouplewithabox I told my closest friends (three of them) nearly immediately. At 13 weeks, my friend posted pictures of my wedding which mentioned the baby so everyone found out... I would have waited a bit longer to make it widely known. I think it is totally up to you and depends on the type of relationship you have with your friends--the three I told are the people I would turn to for support if I suffered a loss, so I wanted them to know regardless! Congrats on being here!

  • I've told those that need to know. My friend and I always go to hockey games together and he would have noticed if I had not been drinking. My friend who makes jewelry knows because she is making the pendant for my mother in law to announce to her:)

Just had my first blood draw and should know more in a couple hours! Little sesame seed was too little to see but apparently my lining is doing great.

@Cauleyflower I have ancestry there too! It just seems like it would be such a beautiful place to visit.
  • STM here. Enjoy your pregnancy, ladies! I loved having STM+s to "look up to" in my last BMB, so I hope I can be of help to anyone who needs it!

@darkrose88 I wasn't feeling sick until maybe 6 or 7 weeks, but if you're able, try ginger chews or ginger ale! Both helped me quite a bit. When I couldn't eat meals, I did small healthy snacks throughout the day too. Yogurt, saltines, fruit, anything I could get in without feeling like throwing up. I will add too, I never threw up until I was in labor, but felt extremely nauseous during 1st tri.

@KLake42 symptoms definitely come and go. I'd have days where I felt amazing and other days when I didn't want to get out of bed.

@madcouplewithabox we told family and close friends at 8 weeks. I told work at maybe 10, then social media announcement at 12 weeks. It's really up to you and your partner-everyone is different! I am really wanting to tell people early this time so I can have help with DD when m/s and exhaustion kick in, but I haven't decided yet.

Just checking up on the FTMs - nothing to add because the other STMs have it covered. Just wanting to say, ENJOY. Spoil and pamper yourself all the way through this pregnancy.

ETA @madcouplewithabox I announced at 6 weeks to family and close friends last pregnancy. I didn't post anything on social media until we found out we were team pink at 18 weeks. For this one for some reason, I'm feeling we'll wait a bit longer (than the 6 weeks).

How far along are you? 5 weeks 2 days

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go? Saw my obgyn for my first workup appt last week. She and the nurse were very happy for me. Dr also said it could be twins since my hCG levels are so high (20,000-25,000 at 4 weeks). I have an ultrasound May 10 (Week 6) so DH and I are very excited and hope to see/hear something!

Cravings? Chicken salad...I guess because it's salty and sweet....ok, now I want some

Rants/Raves? Nausea will be the death of me...I've had it almost since I got my BFP. It subsided yesterday, which worried me, but it's back in full force today!

Questions for FTM, STM+? STMs, were you worried about miscarriages even if you haven't had one before? I was so nervous when I started reading about high hCG levels in early pregnancy and what that could mean.

GTKY: Describe your dream vacation. Fiji/Bora Bora....to stay in one of those huts with the crystal blue water beneath you. Take me there

  • @ccm2017 also STM, and yes-I worried about it almost every day until I could feel DD move consistently. I'm feeling the anxiety all over again with this one. You aren't alone.
  • @ccm2017 Absolutely. I was terrified the first time and am just as terrified this time. I pee on sticks until the test line is much darker than the control, I google everything (bad idea), and I research elective ultrasound places that do viability checks (found one two hours away). It's very, very normal to worry... but I did find once I saw the HB and especially when I saw her move, the anxiety eased... I also bought an at home doppler to listed to the HB, which I could do ~13 weeks. That helped.

  • @EmilyLove25 What's an elective ultrasound place? Like I could just walk in and ask for an ultrasound?

I read that it's possible to see a heartbeat at 6 weeks, but my OB doesn't want to do the first ultrasound until 8-9 weeks and I really don't want to wait that long.

    edited May 2017
@caeilievalor not to step on @EmilyLove25 toes, but an elective ultrasound place is a private business that does ultrasounds and you pay out of pocket. They're typically used by people wanting to find out the gender early. as far as seeing the heartbeat at six weeks, it's possible but not a guarantee, even in a viable pregnancy. **TW** I had some very heavy bleeding while pregnant with DS2 and had a number of ultrasounds starting around 5.5 weeks. Even at 6.5 weeks they still couldn't see the heartbeat on it, just the yolk sac. Just something to keep in mind, because it would stink to pay and see nothing! Not to mention that would do nothing to calm your nerves, even if everything was totally fine!

ETA I don't mean to minimize the waiting is hard aspect, because it totally is!

  • @KatieEl Yeah, I know! I spent so much of my energy and stress on getting pregnant and didn't even realize that I'd have a whole other 9 months worth of stuff to consider, ha! Oh, and I forgot to check in on this thread so I'll do that now:

How far along are you? At midnight I'll be exactly 4 weeks.

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go? No, my first one is scheduled for 22nd May.

Cravings? Hmm...not really. I wanted mac 'n cheese earlier, but that's a pretty usual craving for me, ha!

Rants/Raves? HOW IS THERE SO MUCH INFORMATION AVAILABLE????

Questions for FTM, STM+? How long did you wait/plan to wait before announcing your pregnancy publicly?

GTKY: Describe your dream vacation. Omg, Europe 100%. Dream vacay would be taking the train from country to country and staying 1-2 days in each major city in fancy hotels.
  • @caeilievalor in 2012 DH and I went to London, Paris, Rome, Venice, Prague, Munich, and back to London in 19 days. It was an amazing trip but we were so tired afterwards! He has made me promise since then to only plan 1 tour/historical thing per day and give him time to lounge in pubs to people watch (and drink Lol)

Any appointments this week/last? How did it go? None yet. My OB does a nurse educator appointment at about 6-7 weeks, so that's 10 days away; then first ultrasound is 5/24

Cravings? not really. wanted a burrito for Cinco de Mayo, but I also eat Mexican food at least once a week anyway...

Rants/Raves? It's so weird and hard to not tell people. I was at my cousin's house this weekend and she has a 3 year old and newborn, and so of course the topic of babies comes up nonstop, and it's so weird to just sit quietly!

Questions for FTM, STM+? Where did you get a reliable list of things to not eat and meds to avoid? I feel like every time I google something (e.g., can I take Melatonin?) I somehow stumble across recommendations about a million other things, many of which seem ridiculous (e.g., avoid garlic, cinnamon, nutmeg, and most herbal and fruit teas)... other than waiting til I go too the doctors, I would love a more reliable way to look things up.

@caeilievalor we announced our pregnancy last time to family at 6 weeks after I saw the heartbeat on a dating ultrasound. We told work and friends after that, but didn't announce on social media until our anatomy scan at 18 weeks.

@saraterp3 the Ovia pregnancy app has a section of it with food and medication look ups which I like

  • @saraterp3 my OB gave me a lot of handouts at my first appointment on foods and meds. My nurse line was also incredibly helpful!
  • @caeilievalor basically @KatieEl said it all... only some do viability checks but most prefer you wait until 13+ weeks. As @KatieEl said, I also would wait until 7 weeks + because you would not want to risk not seeing a HB just because it's early and not be in a doctor's hands (for me anyway). But I did three  :# elective US with DD. I was an addict

I have a friend who knows a private (but cheap) clinic that will do an ultrasound for cash, as often as you want. She offered to give me their address-- it felt like she was telling about a drug dealer!

  • @JuliaGoolia719 Wow!! That sounds amazing!!!

@saraterp3 I went out to eat tonight with two girlfriends and one is 7.5 months pregnant. I've been telling both of them that I was TTC and the non-pregnant girl was like "You're pregnant! I know it!!!" I wanted to tell her so badly!!! But all I could say was "I hope so!"

@crizz13 That sounds like good timing. I think things are going to change for me when I see that heartbeat.

@EmilyLove25 Yeah, I'm on the fence at this point. I'm only 4 weeks now so I'll think more about it after 6 weeks. My first OB appointment is at 6 weeks 3 days. They won't be doing an US that day, but maybe they can give me advice. I just really want to see that dang heartbeat, ha!
