@vflux33 this is a perfect time to try that thing I've seen on youtube of people slamming bottles of wine against the wall inside of shoes!!
  • @doxiemoxie212 Episode 1, season 4. I have never seen the series and I just started and I love/hate it. I do love when shows are set in Manhattan because I grew up there and I became an adult there, but I also dont entirely relate to it since I was never a single 20-something in the city like all my friends
  • Sunkist + vanilla vodka because I haven't gotten out the blender to make margaritas yet!

I also love white Russians, Moscow mules, amaretto sours, and run and cokes.

@Sailing_mama - YH is going to be in for a surprise when he gets home.  ;)

  • @kiwi2628 DH also grew up in Manhattan... not to get too specific on his behalf, but which half of the island did you call home? He grew up in lower Manhattan....

The first season of the show was my fav.
  • @pebbledam omg wat?! Sunkist and vanilla vodka? Why have I not tried this yet?! That sounds AMAZING. Oh you could blend that and it would be like an adult orange slushie!

@doxiemoxie212 He just texted he's on his way home and the carpets in my rental are too light to afford a mistake, but I'll check those out next time and maybe try outside.

@kiwi2628 I love/hated it for the 1st season, and then got angry and stopped watching it by the end of the second season. Oddly, I only ever related to the male characters and I'm not sure what that says about me.
  • @vflux33 I didn't find it super relatable after the first season, but the first season was like YASSS GIRL YASSS. There's a particular type of feeling that erupts being of a certain age in NYC while dating that is just absurd. I think it was also the age I was at and where I was in my life when it first aired. It's sort of a struggle fest for DH because he grew up here and has conflicting emotions about what NY has become and what part of it he fits into. He mostly hated the show after the first season (didn't love the first), but he was sort of into the last season. Oddly, a lot of critics were into the last season, too.
  • @doxiemoxie212 I split my time between Manhattan and Westchester (divorced parents). When I was with my mom (in the city- I went to school in Westchester though) I lived on East 78th

@vflux33 I heard the last season was the best, so I am pushing through to see the whole thing
  • @vflux33 what kind of wine? I'm a details person.
  • @JennyColada - It's my go-to drink at home.

Re: I haven't watched Girls because I feel like even the people who like it also hate it. I feel like I should watch at least an episode to say that I have.

  • @JennyColada @pebbledam um, the Pinnacle whipped cream flavor vodka + orange soda was my jam for a while. Delish! Never thought to blend it though. That would have been bomb.
  • @kiwi2628 oh I see, DH went to one of the IDK?, in CA we would've called them Magnet schools? One of the Hunter/Stuy/Bronx Sci schools. He and his friends (he had 8 groomsmen, all he went to k-12 with) used to talk nonstop isht about like every school in Manhattan, but they don't know anything about Westchester unfortunately for my curious mind. I had dreams of moving to Westchester until I realized the property taxes are obscene. Now we want to GTFO and go back to CA.

    @50Wife Butt baby reference!  :D

@doxiemoxie212 I can see that, but won't go into detail as to why since @kiwi2628 isn't there yet.

I'm drinking Bordeaux, but not a fancy one. We have a really good Grocery Outlet here.
  • @pebbledam the first season is legit worth watching

@vflux33 so I grew up between SF and Napa, and every time we go visit my mom, we go to Napa. DH is one of those people that is really sold by a story, so if we do a tour, he -- you guessed it -- joins their wine club. We are members of 5 wineries in Napa. This means we have an entire 18 bottle wine fridge full of wine "too expensive to drink" (ie, more than $100 per bottle). This makes me angry. Honestly. Because like, let me drink the wine before (*knocks on wood*) I get pregnant! WTF!  Also, personally I think it's overpriced. Like, it's great wine, we can drink for free at the wineries, but like, c'mon. But no. DH loves it. It makes him happy knowing it's there. I can't kill his dreams. (Although, he already agreed that when/if the time time comes I have to stop drinking, he does too, so....)

ETA: some how I meant that to relate back to cheap wine? I guess what I'm saying is that we go to a wine store near us and buy $10 wine but don't drink the very good wine we have already paid for because DH wants my head to explode.

@doxiemoxie212 I live 40 minutes from Napa (Sonoma County). We joined a wine club once but unjoined because of TTC. But since we're not from here whenever people visit they want to go to wineries so we always have some fancy ones on hand but we save them for fancy occasions (I know, life's so hard). My Bday's coming up so unless KU we'll probably run through 3 of them. I've only ever been to 1 winery in Napa (Jarvis which has an insane amazing tour but $$$$). We stick to Sonoma wineries for the most part because we live here, support local stuff, blah blah.
  • @doxiemoxie212 see I dont know any NYC schools except for the obvious Dalton, Chapin, Collegiate etc... Also since I gre up in Westchester I never saw the taxes of expensive so it was AMAZING when I moved to Ohio- omg, everything was SO EFFING CHEAP. Moving back to the northeast after Ohio was actually painful (and yet obviously necessary, I cannot be in the midwest)
  • @doxiemoxie212 I can relate to that frustration about the wine! We go to Napa every year for DH's birthday (but we are LA locals) and this most recent trip I kept reminding him "if all goes well I won't be able to drink this past a few months, so don't buy too much!" He bought 14 bottles of wine AND we are getting two shipments from our wine club in the next 3 months. -_-
  • @kiwi2628 - I grew up in Missouri and always thought that I would grow up and move away. And then I grew up and realized that I didn't really fit in either of the coasts or the south... It was an eye-opening day when I realized that I was, in fact, Midwestern.

  • @vflux33 we never do Sonoma even though we keep talking about it because now that we're members it seems like it doesn't make financial sense to visit Sonoma! Which is a total shame because I know it'd be dope. Have you ever been to Mustard's Grill? They have the beessssttttt bloody mary of all time. I would bathe in it. And their food is DIVINE.

@JennyColada (**TW**) when I got preg last Sept, I convinced DH to let me at least postpone deliveries of wine, so I told one that I was pregnant and that's why we were cancelling a shipment. I got an email like a month later (after I'd MCed) from the tenants of our previous rental being like, "Uh, are you guy's preg? Some winery sent you a onesie? Do you want it?" It was so nice of the winery but so awk. (Also, I'm fine about the MC.) (**end TW**) In other news, in October of 2015 we got super drunk in Napa, and DH ordered a ton of wine. Like, a ton. And then in December all the shipments came, and it was - no joke - 50 bottles in total. I nearly killed him.
  • @kiwi2628 @pebbledam I used to have to visit ohio all the time for work, and part of me really loved it.
  • vflux33vflux33 member
@doxiemoxie212 I haven't! It's under an hour away though so not too bad.

If you do ever make the trip over to Sonoma I have a TON of recommendations. The (town of) Sonoma and Glen Ellen are pretty close to Napa (east county). One of my fave restaurants is in Sonoma-- it's called Harvest Moon. If you like farm to table and French Laundry type stuff their chef used to work there. It's expensive but not Napa expensive (which is not a bad descriptor for the entire county of Sonoma lol).

I got a pick your own 6 pack (3 IPAs for DH and 3 hard ciders for me) from the grocery store to welcome cd1 in style tonight. Also today ate leftover work party cheesecake, two cans of soda and pizza, so take that body, I will get my revenge! I'm watching/watching my husband watch what is probably the Blues' last hockey game of the hockey playoffs.

Currently I'm drinking Stella Artois Cidre and I've got to say I prefer the cheaper hard cider options. But I love the build your own 6 pack so that I can try out the new ones before going all in.

  • @vflux33 I'm actually more into than he is... he had an incident where his partner got injured and it mentally scarred him. But because he knows I've done it with others, I think he feels the need to stake a claim, for lack of a better way to explain it

@lulu1180 Fair - although one glass of wine never hurt anyone! ;)
