Re: Weekly Random 4/24

  • @emilyrose807 I'm a FTM so 0 experience but I bought the book "Montessori From the Start", planning on not having a crib (as long as baby adapts well), definitely adding an acrylic mirror, art, and shelves to kid's height.

I'm sort of following this with DD now that she's in her "big girl room" and in her "big girl bed" (mattress right on the floor). I'd love to hear/see some of your ideas as you get them up and running!
  • @livlew-2  and @HappyToBeHere I saw that book mentioned on another website. Do you recommend it?

My other thing that I need to do is to go around the house, maybe during my maternity leave and make the lowest areas in the house more kid friendly, so that it's not a constant batter to protect my grownup things. Just put them away for a bit until he is a little bigger.
  • Do we need to start babyproofing now, or is it ok to wait until baby is almost crawling?
  • @mrsmatt212 I waited until DS was almost crawling.

Same. There's actually a lot of all the baby prep steps that could wait til after baby is here.

I guess I'm glad there isn't a huge crazy deadline to get daycare lined up here, but all of the "deadlines" near us are different and some places won't even let us do a tour until after the baby is born since they say they won't know availability until then. One even said to reach out a month or two before we need care to check availability! We've only been able to schedule 2 tours after reaching out to about 8 places. One we liked but was really expensive and we didn't love the other. I feel like I don't have enough information to put a deposit down after only seeing 2 places. I'm glad we didn't have to put a deposit down right when the stick turned pink but I'm so frustrated by "check back later."

  • DH is a lineman and it's storming so he's being held late at work. Not sure when he'll get off.  I wanted to get DS out of the house today and of course it won't stop raining. He's on round 3 of antibiotics for the same ear infection and even though he's been on this one for a week and only has 6 doses left, he's still whiny, clingy, and pulling at his ears like crazy. We follow up next Thursday to see if he needs to see an ENT.

    Sorry, I needed to vent

Ugh that's frustrating. And what if there's no availability when you need to go back to work? (Assuming you're looking because you are working.) Finding this stuff is indeed stressful.

I first read your post as though your husband was on antibiotics, whiny, clingy, and pulling at his ears and thought whoa.... lol. But I am sorry your child is sick, ear infections are awful!

  • @DeansGirl14 I would make him leave
  • My DH just told his friend we would babysit their 16mo son on Saturday night. Um we only have a few child-free weekends left, like, for the next 18+yrs. But sure we'll spend a Saturday night at someone else's house, babysitting their kid.

At least I can see what I am working with when it comes to DH and his ability to change diapers etc, since he never has. Last time his friend came over with his kid and had to change a diaper DH left the room. Not this time, this time it is all him!
