@sunniegrly Yeah, good call on the swamp of sadness! I'll just hang out with Falcor. He'll make sure nothing bad happens to me. Side note, if you watch as an adult you will get super weirded out about the statues. Like it's a kids movie. WTF. Also I hate BBT too. All these people who are like "I just go back to sleep after I take my temperature." How can you possibly fall back asleep after that?? The second I touch that thing I am done.

@mschanandlerbong1214 I typically get two days of positive OPKs

@Pinky917 Haha yes! I tried to find a gif for you but I guess the internet is too scared of them too. 80s kids movies are the best. They really weren't afraid to depress and terrify children back then.  :D
  • @garnetandgoldgrace Do you mean the "girl" sperm are hardier but slower than "boy" sperm and that you can somehow control the gender by timing your BD around that concept? I find it suspect to think that most women understand the *precise* beginning of their O well enough to even attempt this properly.
  • @mschanandlerbong1214 --- OMG you will absolutely lovvveeee it!!! I live in Orlando and used to work at Universal and Harry Potter was the best thing to happen to that theme park!

  • @garnetandgoldgrace I should ask my MIL if she tried it lol. (TW? Is this a TW? If I'm talking about adult humans who were once babies?) She wanted a girl so badly she kept trying and ended up with four boys (DH is the oldest, and he's 10 years older than his youngest brother). Also, in case anyone was wondering, four boys is too many to keep in a Manhattan apt! I don't know how they survived.
  • vflux33vflux33 member
Yeah, if "Shettles" or whatever it's called really worked wouldn't everyone who charted end up with boys?

DH is waffleing about his trip now and told me last night he thinks he should go.  :(  This resulted in us arguing last night and it never really got resolved. I'm still upset but we really need to HIO tonight if we have any chance this cycle. TTC when your mad at your spouse is a weird situation.

  • @garnetandgoldgrace I’m just so excited because my last ones didn’t show a positive, just my digital ones. So now I know these will work. Haha And you know I think that gender stuff is a bunch of BS.

@Cricket648 Glad your appointment went well! It's strongly advised in the IF thread NOT to go on Clomid before a SA--SAs are cheap and noninvasive and don't come with risks or side effects so taking Clomid before doing an SA sounds like a bad idea. Any ladies reading this who know more about this/have more experience than me want to comment? I'm probably missing something, but this has come up a lot in the IF thread. @antoto? others?

Also most people do the tube check before medicated cycles but I'm doing one before O during my first medicated cycle (my RE said the IUI with Clomid will have higher success rate that way but I think she is outside the norm, and I don't know if the fact that she does SSGs instead of HSGs is related to that).

eta got confused and forgot stuff
  • @Cricket648 I'm glad your appointment went well! You and I are in the same boat as far as treatment moving forward :) It sounds like you have a great RE who is on your side and has a solid plan for you. I forget if you've joined the IF thread yet. The ladies there have a ton of information. Most recommend the SA and HSG before medicated cycles because if something is wrong there, then those cycles were a waste. I decided to put both off for 3 cycles because there's nothing to indicate anything is wrong yet and all that testing is not covered my by insurance. Either way, choose what is best for you. I'll be crossing my fingers for you!

@LoveInDC Unfortunately there's no outward signs that could give any indication if there is something wrong that either of those would show

@LoveInDC Yeah, it sounds like we're on the same plan. The only difference is that the RE is pretty sure I don't have PCOS, but we'll see how the blood work comes back. I haven't joined the IF thread. I feel a little weird about joining because I'm still so early on in my journey, but maybe I'll post my question about the SA and HSG there. My fingers are crossed so hard for you, too (and everyone else)!

@lulu1180 True. And depending on how much it would cost, DH might get an SA when he sees his doctor next week. As far as an HSG, I'm still more comfortable waiting a few cycles first. To me it's like getting a full body scan when you have a nose bleed. Yes, it could tell you there are other connected problems. But my logic says you treat the problem you see and then look for secondary causes if it still doesn't get better. Right now, I can't ovulate because of PCOS. So let's jump that hurdle before we assume there's also something else going on and spend a couple hundred dollars just for good measure. We're already spending so much to get the slimmest chance because right now, it's zero. I don't have it in me to throw more money at it right now just in case.

We're taking it one step at a time. We tried winging it. Then we tried temping. Now we're trying a medicated cycle. Then we'll do more thorough testing. Then we'll move on to IUI or IVF. Hopefully we don't have to get there. Maybe my way is wrong and I'll waste 3 cycles. But I weighed the risk and I'm willing to take it. I'm not saying it's right for everyone, but it's right for me and my DH in this moment. So that's what we're going to do. *shrug*

@LoveInDC I totally get your hesitance, financial and otherwise, re: the HSG. Does your RE only do HSGs for tubes? If you want your tubes checked (not saying you need to just throwing this out there) but want something cheaper with zero radiation, maybe you should inquire about the SSG? I thought I was getting the Saline Sonogram ($350 at my RE's office), but was emailed and told they are giving me a SonoSalpingoGram ($400 at my RE's office). Not sure why they switched me, but anyway, both have no radiation and from what I've heard a lot cheaper than the HSG PLUS you can do them in a regular office. Again, not sure what is right for you just throwing that out there in case you want to look into it more. I remember being super confused and thinking only HSGs were a thing based on how common they seem to be here and I'm thrilled to be paying less and to not have unnecessary exposure to radiation. That said, I don't have a dx of PCOS and my ovulation disorder may or may not totally explain our IF so if there was a tube blockage for me that would make some sense.
