I think discarding a name you like because of the initials it will create is silly. There are a few exceptions: if the initials spell a "bad" word (example, ASS).
Ok here's mine: DS's daycare is collecting donations for 'teacher' appreciation week. Look, I know the daycare workers are underpaid but come on! We pay $1700 for DS. It's a business! You're not a nonprofit or a public school where teachers aren't paid directly by us! This daycare collects money for everything and I'm not being cheap but we already pay a small fortune for the daycare. Why the heck am I gonna donate money several times a year for something that already is costing us 20 grand per year. Ugh. I'm not cheap!
Also I should mention that none of the teachers have done a damn thing to earn the extra bucks. They're cranky and don't always listen to what i ask for DS.
So in summary, my UO is that it's BS to collect money from the parents of a daycare business and harass us with emails, notes, and posted flyers about donations. Leave me alone and maybe I'll consider a personal note and a gift card for select teachers.

Agreed.
After marriage my initials are OJ lol whatever. I like orange juice. So the lesson here is you never know what your initials will be once the kiddos grow up and take someone else's name

i was whining about the same thing yesterday, so +1 to most of what you said. but this one comment rubs me a little wrong. if you truly feel that why do you send DS there?
@Maksim's Mom I agree. It's no where near as expensive as daycare, but it drives me nuts when our preschool is always asking for money for stuff. It's one thing when they ask for money for the "graduation party" the last year, because they get a cake and rent a bounce house. But parents are assigned days to bring in snacks, parents provide donations for supplies (Kleenex, paper towels, cups, wipes, etc). Why do we need to be guilted into donating money for the new big outdoor toy they pick every year? I find it hard to believe that the tuitions they collect from 5 classes doesn't leave anything after paying their 5 employees and operating costs.
I don't feel the need for my nursery to have a theme. I would much rather just decorate with nice colors that match and then let the kid decide if they want a themed room when they get older. DH and I have been asked so many times what our nursery theme is we have started brainstorming ridiculous themes to say to people with a straight face. The current leader is "Taxidermy." You know, stuffed animal heads mounted on the wall and such...
I can't stand tv show/movie characters/sports on clothing, bedding, backpacks, etc. Also can't stand jungle animals on anything. I always think I've found something cute for my 18 month old and then BAM there's a monkey on the butt. Hate it. Maybe I'm not a cool mom, but my kids will probably never have character crap on their stuff. I much prefer neutral items.
I don't think this is probably UO but judging by a lot of the houses in my area it is.
I really really don't like oak trim or oak cabinets. Ew.

I used to say the same thing, but when your kid doesn't fight you to get dressed because she can wear her minnie mouse shirt, it's worth it.

This. Plus we get tons of hand me downs and IDGAF what is on them as long as they aren't offensive.

i used to be like that, once they hit 2 or so seeing DDs flip out about a minnie shirt or something. it makes me happy to have them so happy. i try to get "cooler" looking items. but YOLO you wear that frozen monstrosity guuuurl.
I am also on team "no cartoony stuff or characters" (except for jammies- otherwise I haaaaaaate it) but I'm sure I'll cave once they are old enough to care.
@JessDG I am the same, DD's nursery was done in coral and navy with gold accents. I did a stenciled accent wall behind her crib. It's certainly something she can grow with. I'm not even sure what this ones will be until we find out if it's a he or a she. Also, I always read your SN as Jess Dog which is your new gangsta bump name!
@jessafishy Yes, all trim and cabinets must be white!
@JessDG We didn't have a theme with DD and we won't have one with this one either. DD's room was painted green (since we didn't know if it would be a boy or girl) and once she was born I decorated with a few pink touches. Now that we've moved into our forever house, we let her pick out her paint color (pink, obviously). The nursery is a neutral tan and once that baby gets old enough, we will let he or she pick out a color to paint it.

i hate being on the leader board and i was doing so good this week staying off it. then all the sudden today BAM! i need a lyfe. all i got for an UO at the moment. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@TallMomma29 add me to the not a Star Wars fan club. I think I shared this story here a while back, but I did go with DH and some friends to the most recent movie. I wasn't allowed to talk or ask any questions, and I had no idea what was going on, so I just got a little tipsy (pre-pregnancy) and ended up falling on my butt in the aisle going to the bathroom. Lol.
Re: characters on clothes, I would not voluntarily buy these things for DD, but I do if she asks because it seriously makes her the happiest to wear a stupid peppa pig shirt. However, like @carries2018 I can't deal with all slogan onesies, particularly those that are hyper gender stereotyping.

Exactly. I took her to the store the other day to pick out ONE new shirt for our Disney trip. Yeah, we left with 4 terrible character shirts (actually one is cute lol) because she was freaking out over all of them and my heart melted. She did pick one frozen one that is awful. It looks like Elsa's skin is purple and Anna and Elsa are staring lovingly into each other's eyes about to make out or something. It's awful.

+1. My kitchen has oak cabinets and if we weren't planning on moving in the next year, I would rip those ugly suckers out in a heartbeat. Most of the houses in our area have all oak trim and cabinets and it makes my skin crawl. I don't know if I could buy a house with all oak trim. I know it could be replaced, but that's too time-consuming and expensive.

I HATE oak so, so, much. But apparently my in laws were obsessed with it so we are now the proud owners of DH's complete oaked out bedroom set. Trying to convince him to let me paint/stain it because I'm not subjecting my kiddos to that.

It's really that they're not going above what is expected so deserve the donation throughout the year. I give on Christmas to every teacher no matter what. It's not a bad place I just don't think the teachers are extraordinary to get money all the time on top of the daycare fees.

Yes! Precisely! They nickel and dime us all year long for snacks of the month and other extras. Don't even get me started on extra cost for enrichment activities. They're 2 year olds for petes sake!

Same here on hating oak! Our house had all oak cabinents everywhere when we moved in and we've slowly painted or stained all of them. We also had an oak stair railing... stained that too! Just say no to oak!
I love star wars all of them and it seems to be an UO on here today. I also agree with not donating to everything at school. I am pregnant with my first but am a teacher and for everyones b-day on the staff or last day or something else needs money and it will be for people I don't know and I don't wanna give money for everything like that.
since i was just faced with this adversity....it makes me rage when places have a "minimum credit card purchase" or "cash only tips"...it is 2017. i don't carry cash. increase your prices slightly to accommodate the fee if you need. but the majority don't carry cash. deal with it.
