Morning sickness from H***!!!

7 weeks and 3 days- usually extremely active- now I can hardly get out of bed because morning sickness is ALL day. I can only keep down dry pretzels and fruit juice. I'm exhausted, and worried that I am not getting my steps in... even riding in the car makes me sick. Anyone else have this? Or have ways to cope?

Re: Morning sickness from H***!!!

  • @VMFAWife115 you may not get your steps in and I would not focus on that right now. as for the MS... I don't get a lot of vomiting but can have severe nausea. I found small frequent meals (and sometimes its saltines and ginger ale) help. also I found I would get nauseous when I had gone too long with out eating but then I didn't want to eat and it was a bit of a viscous circle. Preggo pops help take the edge off so that I could eat something. Otherwise if your vomiting regularly I would talk to your doc about getting something to help. Some women swear by Vit B6

  • No Ms yet but I had it so bad in my first pregnancy. I had saltines by my bed and ate those and had some ginger ale before I even moved in the morning. I also took unison and B6 every night for literally the first half of my pregnancy. Oddly I also found that sour patch kids and jelly beans helped with the nausea.
  • I have had nausea since the night before my BFP and the vomiting began mid week 6... I'm on diclegis now. Some days it works really well and some days, not so much.    Like @Savanna111911, sour candy did help initially with the nausea but oh man did I pay for that with heartburn!   @wabash15 had some great ideas that can help as well.  Just know you aren't alone.

  • Right there with you. I just switch to promethazine from diclegis but both make you super sleepy. I 3rd what these ladies have said. Sour has really helped me and ginger tablets. Week 7 I lived off cheerios and saltines. Hang in there!

I am puking like a lot. Most of my food occasionally I can keep stuff down but even if I do the indigestion is awful.

I will have to try sour candy and see if that helps. The preggie pops and various ginger things are doing nothing. Saltines don't help. Drinking water makes me nauseas and pukey.

Taking dicletin like I did with my first isn't an option as I can't be sleepy all the time. I have a busy toddler with a busy schedule.

Just trying to ride it out and hope it subsides soon.
  • I had hg and was on diclegis and vofran all throughout both previous pregnancies. My ms just really picked up this week. Rest as much as you can and eat and drink as much as you can. And remember, for most people it gets better.
  • i have found acupuncture to be helpful in easing some of my nausea. Also, my midwife recommended nausea ease capsules by Vitanica- with vit B, ginger &
peppermint. I got them on Amazon & they seem to take the edge off.

I have had some luck with sucking on mint lifesavers and I've tried a few different antinausea medications. I'm currently on IV therapy since my levels showed borderline hypernesis gravarium. I have been feeling way better since I am at least getting fluids now.
    Hang in there!
  • Preggy pops/drops are glorified jolly ranchers. Save yourself a few bucks and buy a bag at CVS :) I had DH pick up a bag tonight. Keep chilled water with you (maybe not, but it seems to help me), club soda and bitters too in the evening.

Curious, how does one test for hyperemesis gravidum? I've never even been close to that so I've never looked into it. What levels are they testing?

NOT A DOCTOR but my understanding is they test for ketones in your blood or urine. If there are ketones it means your body isn't getting any glucose and your energy is all coming from stored fats.
Whenever I get an IV drip there is added glucose in it to prevent ketosis and I have to get levels tested every time I go in (1-3 times per week).

@wstacij I am beginning to wonder if I need to get checked out. I am on like day 5ish of puking up 95% of what goes in and feeling weak and gross. I have been drinking pop/apple juice when I can to get some sugar and was going to look into pedialyte safety today but honestly an IV and getting hydrated sounds amazing without puking sounds amazing

@baevn definitely worth getting checked! I could tell something was weird this pregnancy. I was sick last time, but nothing like this. Whenever I get an IV its like I'm a whole new person lol
  • Definitely talk to your OB about Hyperemesis. This is my third HG pregnancy (i have two healthy daughters!), and has so far been the easiest for me, mostly because I started treatment right away. I would ask for  samples of Diclegis, it will make you sleepy the first few days but eventually that side effect goes away, at least for me it did. I am on Kytril and Pepcid as well. Kytril is an alternative to Zofran, for me it works much better with far fewer side effects. Pepcid is for heartburn, but I think I need something a little stronger so I am going to switch to Protonix. I am also on hydration therapy as I can't stomach water, even on all the medicine.

It is very scary to be this sick - with my second I lost 15lbs before I finally realized I needed to get help. I was afraid of all the medicine, but the reality was that I was starving and severely dehyrdated which is not good for baby or me. If you are feeling that the normal remedies aren't helping (ginger, crackers, small meals..) and you are losing weight / having very dark urine or little to no urine - please go to your OB. They can help. They may recommend you go into your local ER or urgent care for some hydration, and I highly recommend following their advice. If you have any questions, I am more than happy to answer. I think we have a few other HG moms on the board as well.

  • Is it possible to have an aversion to water?? I can't seem to keep that down but can handle gingerale. Ugh

  • @Marley629 very possible. It happens to me with every pregnancy, luckily it goes away around 16ish weeks - at least that is what has happened in the past. Right now I can drink cranberry juice and that is all. The IV hydration is what keeps me hydrated... I can handle the other aversions, but I literally have dreams about drinking water because I'm so thirsty. My first pregnancy I had luck with sparkling water with fruit (strawberries or raspberries) in it... this time, not so much.

Things are a little better today. I just focused on rehydrating today. A nurse friend recommended drinking some pedialyte. So I have done that and a little coconut water and sips of water all day. I also have just ate tiny bits. Like a few crackers and then if that stays down I ate a piece of watermelon an hour later and then a couple hours later a bit of chicken. I have only puked once today so it seems to be helping. I am not getting a ton of food in me but any little bit helps.

You're definitely not alone! I've tried pretty much every remedy and nothing works. It was the same with DD. I'm sorry I don't have any advice, just wanted you to know you weren't alone! I'm sorry you're going through this, it is the absolute worst. With my HG from my first pregnancy I was so traumatized to have another baby but I keep telling myself "9 months of a sacrifice to me provides my daughter a best friend for life" and it totally helps me get through each day.
