Our proposal was as non traditional as they get. We picked out the ring together and then a few weeks later my husband proposed to me in the garden of our home. He didn't even ask me, he just got down on one knee and said, "You're marrying me" and stood up. It was adorable and extremely appropriate for us. We've been together almost 14 years and married for almost 3 now.
We went to a concert the night before. DH got super drunk and was hungover in bed all day. Instead of getting ready for my work christmas party DH says we should take the next step and go shopping for something shiny. We skipped that Christmas party and went shopping that night.
After four years of dating, I left him. He was terrified of commitment and I was ready to start a family. There was no ultimatum I just left. I understood his fear and realized that I wasn't going to be able to overcome it.
He showed up on St. Patrick's Day less than a month after I left him. Proposed as soon as I opened the door- saying he was wrong and living without me was something he didn't want to do. Shocked the crap out of me as I wasn't expecting it. Almost ten years later we are happy, with a bunch of kids and life is grand.
Not the most romantic proposal in the world but it worked. I said yes and six months later we were married.
Valentine's Day. We were at my condo at the time, I was 20 and he was 24, and we had a really fun "date night in." I went upstairs for something and when I came down there was flower petals and candles everywhere. At the bottom he asked me. It was perfect for us.

DH and I met while I was serving in the United States Peace Corps. He was not an American at that time, and therefore had to do a mandatory year of military service. We had talked about marriage prior to his service, and had decided that if we still felt the same after surviving a year apart, that we would get married. Needless to say, absence made the heart grow fonder. We celebrated the end of his service by taking a two-week vacation to Antalya, Turkey on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea. He proposed to me at night, on the beach, with fireworks exploding in the distance. We've now been married for almost 8 years.
Re: GTKY: how did H propose?
