TTC Over 35- weekly check-in 4/23

Re: TTC Over 35- weekly check-in 4/23

  • omg @Momifbysea - I'm so very sorry to hear that!  Even though those babies (yes I say babies because they would have been - DH had called it a collection of cells and nothing else) were not inside you this is a loss and it's ok to grieve it.  Personally I don't know how you are getting thru work.  Take very much care of yourself today and leave work early if at all possible.

  • Thank you everyone, your support means a lot right now. (Big exhale.) I spoke with my RE and scheduled a May 8 appointment to discuss the next cycle. DH is on board with giving this one more go, although a lot of it will now be oop as we will exceed the lifetime limit on our insurance. I want to give it one more try though. I know it means more injections but I can do this. I don't want to give up hope. Our RE is willing to give us another try despite my age.

  • @momifbysea - I'm glad you are not giving up hope.  Sorry most will be OOP now.  The 2nd go around you already know what to expect so that part might be easier.  Just to give you some more hope a friend of mine knows someone that succeeded twice with IVF at age 50 and has 2 kids.  She tried IVF in her 30s and it didn't work.  I know that doesn't make you feel better but know it IS possible.

  • @Momifbysea noooo!!! I'm so sorry to hear this and I second pp, if you can leave work don't feel bad about doing that.

I was actually just reading about transferring at day 3 instead of day 5 when there are 3 or fewer embryos. It sounds like that is actually the suggested protocol since the uterus is a more hospitable environment for an embryo. I don't know if you plan to do IVF again, but I would definitely ask about that. If we do it again I plan to ask, since we ended up with only 3 by day 3 and two on day 5.....I wonder if the one we lost on day 5 would have made it if we'd transferred at day 3.

Hang in there and make sure to allow yourself time to grieve. You'll be in my thoughts today.

  • It's funny I told DH if I'm 38 and still no pregnancy we will have to decide between IVF or adoption - neither are covered for us at the moment obviously adoption is OOP.  His reply is making it all comical like that's not even an option.  I told him in a year next May when I am 38 he probably won't be saying that.  I'd want to give myself 2 years for either option.

During the process she was also able to adopt a newborn. I'm sure it's a super long wait to adopt a domestic newborn. I love the baby stage so bad! I'd want another fresh baby. I'm weird. Baby is my all time favorite stage and people think I'm nuts.

  • @vlagrl29 I love the baby stage too. I dont have kids yet but I love loving all over my friends babies.

I'll be 38 in a few months my husband is working mad overtime putting money away just in Case IUI doesn't work and we decide to do IVF.

@Momifbysea so glad your not giving up hope GL with your appt.
  • I'm with you on loving the baby stage. I am thinking of all of you as we take our different paths to reach the same goal. One day at a time! I have to remember to take my own advice on this!

@SP128 Aw...that makes me sad ;(. It is hard to find a balance between optimism and being realistic with this stuff because no one knows how it will go and it kind of feels like a craps shoot.  And even after a cycle or two it's hard not to compare to previous ones, but each one can be different.  I'm optimistic for you!

Otherwise, not having kids yet at this age just makes me feel more desperate - just don't have time to take the more conservative routes, unfortunately.  Just a little extra pressure for an already stressful process (no matter how you're going about it).

  • @Labluver2 - that's great your DH is working extra to stash money away.  If you have to do IVF it's better to not go into debt as I think that would add to my stress.  Hoping IUI works for you.

I very much disliked the terrible 2 and 3s - My neighbor is going thru it and I am just relieved that part is done for us.  I love the baby stage and then at about 4 or so they become more normal lol.  I've had people look at me weird and say "it doesn't scare you to go thru the baby stage again after such a long time from it" - nope not at all - I loved it sleep deprivation and all.  I did have an easy baby so that might be part of it.

your right @Momifbysea - 1 step at a time.  I need to remind myself of that too.  I should only be thinking about the next 3 cycles that complete my year of TTC.  My OB said we could revisit TTC at my annual in August.  I know the next step he would suggest - clomid I'm sure and I really don't know how I feel about that.

  • Yesterday was my first day taking Femera I have to take it til Sat. Thank goodness I decided to take it at night BC it made me so tired to the point I couldn't even keep my eyes open. Haven't experienced any other side effects tho.
  • For those of you thinking about paying IVF OOP, I've been OOP for everything we've done.  One thing that really helped us is that we adjusted to the two of us (no kids) sharing one car.  We have public transit, which isn't awesome, but it exists.  It's a sacrifice that really put a lot more money in our pockets, and made this possible.

@artemis618. Awe. Don't be sad, I didn't mean to make you sad. One of the things I love you ladies is that I know kinda what to expect from your experiences. This isn't important to me since only a few people know about the ***tw*** mc and only two people know about the ivf.

I think if if I wasn't realistic I would be crushed because I would go in thinking all these magical thoughts.

Ive briefly thought of adoption.  Right now I really want my own baby.  I know it sounds a little selfish.  Maybe down the road we may entertain it.

  • We've also thought about foster/adopt, and we might do that even if we get a whole mess of our own babies.  My wife was *almost* in the foster system as a teenager (had a friend of the family take her in for a while).  With her experiences (with a mom who loved her but who spent some time in jail), we'd like to foster, just to foster, knowing that adoption isn't an option.

But first, we really want babies.  Or at least one.

(pssst, I think I'll POAS tonight, so I won't be up all night, excited about peeing on a stick in the morning)
