Son does not want milk

My son does not like milk.  When I try to give it to him every once in a while he immediately gives it back to me and says no.  The only form of milk that really isn't milk I can get him to drink is Rice Dream.  I have tried different pediasure flavors, soy milk, goats milk, chocolate milk, strawberry milk, lactose free milk, and even putting juice in with it, but none of them work.  He does get a vitamin to help suplement the vitamins he needs from milk, and I try to buy OJ and other things enriched with vitamins.  Is anyone else having this problem, and what are you doing or maybe nothing.

  • does he like other dairy products?  he can get calcium, vit D etc from cheese, yogurt, pudding made with milk.  when DS wouldn't drink milk he would eat cereal in milk and i think he got a few ounces at least in his cereal each morning.  He loves his milk now but he refused it for a few months.

  • Hey There,

We don't have this problem, but if you are giving him cheese and yogurt that will help with his calcium intake too.

  • I warmed milk for DS when he first started it.  It helped alot.  Maybe let him pick a special "milk cup" that he can only drink milk out of?

  • DS used to be like that. He ate lots of yogurt and ate cheese, so I wasn't worried about it. Now he will drink about a cup a day, and eat it on cereal, so it is getting better.

  • DS can't have cow or soy milk  (gives him diarrhea).  Not a big deal. I don't even give him vitamins. We just do calcium rich foods and he gets fat from different foods, too.

I worried about it too but it's so silly. I can't remember  what % of the world is lactose intolerent.  Only the western world is obsessed with cows milk!

  • Plenty of kids are raised vegan or have dairy allergies.  If he doesn't like milk, I wouldn't force it.  Kate is not a milk fan.  She drinks maybe 6 oz a day.  She eats lots of cheese and yogurt, gets fats from olive oil and avocados etc, so I don't worry about it.  There is no requirement for all kids to drink cows milk!
  • DD was like that for a little bit.  She has cereal for breakfast & I always add a little more milk because she likes to slurp the milk out of the bowl! I also give her yogurt & shredded cheese, which she thinks is fun to eat.  I feel like I am constantly offering her milk & will leave her sippy cup out for 15 minutes or so at her level & she may or may not grab it to drink.  just keep offering other dairy products & his cup.  If DD says "juice", I will usually tell her I'm all out of juice, but I have milk...then she'll ask for milk.  lol!
