Can't stop freaking out about this one. My wife is seven weeks pregnant. Contractor came in on Friday and used some epoxy in our bathroom to glue something together. Smell was awful due to the solvent used to harden the epoxy. She immediately went and showered without really thinking about it. It was only afterwards that she realized that may have been a bad thing. Total exposure time was probably 20 minutes. We are FREAKING out about birth defects and damage to the baby.
I came home and ventilated everything away and everything is fine now, left a message with the OB and will hear back tomorrow. Has anyone dealt with anything like this? Is our baby doomed?
I'm 7 weeks myself and on a daily basis am exposed to paint thinner, dibasic ester, arcosolve, and inks/hardeners. I work in tampography (pad printing) and while I am limiting my physical contact with the stuff the docs see no reason I can't be around them.
Now I have to say that I disagree with them. It feels like much too toxic of an environment for an expectant mother but the docs seem to think it's fine. *Shrugs*
Re: Wife exposed to epoxy hardener fumes in bathroom
Some women are exposed to much, much more even before finding out that they are pregnant and they have healthy babies.
