Well. My dad had a cardiac event last night and it was bad. He's been admitted to the hospital, is in ICU, and he'll require a pacemaker. When he lost consciousness and fell it injured something in his back/spine and he can't move his wrists/fingers or legs or feel any of his extremities.
I have my half marathon tomorrow and I just want to sit in a room and cry about my dad.
@Mother0fDragons OMG. I am so sorry about your dad. Sending good thoughts his way and hoping for a speedy recovery!!
We took DS to a Day Out with Thomas event today. The weather wasnt great but he loved it!! I have to go away tomorrow for a two week work training trip so I really wanted to do something special with him today. He wouldnt stop taking about riding Thomas and seeing Percy.
Thanks, ladies. I didn't mean to start the thread with such a downer topic. I'm just so worried about him. It sucks so much. I figured he could use as many thoughts, prayers, positive energy, and whatever else people want to put out there for him to fully heal.
@MotherofDragons So sorry to hear about your Dad. Prayers sent immediately.
My random: A few moms and kids from my last BMB met up today at a zoo. It was such a fun day. I love this pic of three of the kids holding hands (the one on the right is mine). They are all 3.5
Thinking of your father @MotherofDragons ! I hope that the issues from his cardiac arrest are only temporary.
We actually went out and got a new fan that fits the size of our bedroom. It'll be so nice because the house is poorly regulated and in the summer it becomes almost unbearable at night.
DH installed the new fan and we spent a good chunk of the day prepping for LO. Less than 6 weeks!
@MotherofDragons so sorry to hear about your dad!!! Maybe getting back to him will help you power through your half marathon?
There is so much messy chaos in our house right now, it's driving me CRAZY!!! A couple weeks ago we made DS1's bed into a loft bed in his closet. Well I decided we needed to remove the closet part and just open up his room because I couldn't get him in and out of his bed easily. DH planned to get it all done while I was gone earlier this week but he asked for his dad's help and it has thus turned into a much bigger project than we had originally planned! Everything in DS1's room is now in our living room AND a friend dropped off a ton of hand-me-downs for me to sort through. It's a crazy mess and I hate it. And DS1 is now running a low grade fever and his best friend's birthday party is tomorrow. They've been besties since they were born so it'll be really sad if he has to miss it.
@Mother0fDragons I am so sorry for your dad. Positive thoughts your way.
which underscores even more that I hate shopping and what is the point of it all when there are things that matter so much more. Sitting in the mall drinking a starbs. Came to buy accessories for my shower tomorrow and shopping is painnnnnful for me.
My husband and I are enjoying a babymoon in Missouri Wine Country this weekend. We've had some yummy food, I've played DD to a few wineries (and made some purchases to drink this summer) and I had a lovely prenatal massage this morning. And best of all? We both slept wonderfully last night, not having to wake up to our noisy 3yo at 0630!
I went to the most awkward shower today. It's a chick I went to HS with that I haven't seen in years and we happen to be pregnant at the same time. Baby #2, from Baby Daddy #2 and it was so over the top. She made each guest come up and take a picture with her before opening their gift, then asked them to read their note in their book outloud to everyone. (She requested books instead of cards with a personal message.)
This is how mine went: "To Baby (insert baby's name) Love, The (insert our last name here)"
DD1 was nominated as student artist of the year, so we have her open house tomorrow to see some of her art displayed. We're making it her day and doing lunch too.
Today DH did yard work while the girls and I shopped. I got my hospital bag toiletries and some baby stuff washed.
@MotherofDragons thinking of you and your dad! (Also super impressed you're doing a half marathon this late, I can't even run across the room without feeling like my uterus is going to fall out)
Today (Sunday) is my son's birthday, so we're going to make breakfast together, take them to a children's museum, and take him to buy a special backpack for starting school next year. When I asked him what he wanted to eat on his birthday, he said "frosting".
Edited because I used the wrong your/you're in the middle of the night, and I can't have you all think I don't know!
Sending love and prayers to you and your family @MotherofDragons. It's so hard and scary to watch a loved one go through that.
******TW****** Yesterday was a year from the day our friends found out their daughter had died in utero at 40+1. It was a rainy day in Key West, which was actually really fitting, but I hope today (their daughters birthday) will be a little more sunny and cheerful. We have an adventure excursion planned for today so hopefully that'll be something fun to bring a little bit of happy to their day and then we got balloons to release for their daughter later when we get back because that's what we did a year ago for her memorial service.
@Mother0fDragons echoing the same sentiments as everyone else here. Sorry about your dad, and super impressed you're still running.
Despite the the fact that I had a bit of a scare with intense cramping and a fluid leak, it's actually been a positive weekend, particularly with DH.
I've mentioned lots of times about him being unhappy about our midwives, and stressed out about basically everything related to baby, but having the midwife open the clinic and meet us specifically to check things out on a day when they're normally closed has made DH actually appreciate having the midwives. We also managed to have a few important baby conversations without arguing at all, including when visitors are allowed to come or not.
@CapricaAndrea So glad to hear you and DH had some good conversations - and I hope you're feeling better.
@erinh84 Hope you continue to be on the mend as well!
I have been been carefully tracking fluid intake this weekend - managed to drink 2.5 liters yesterday which should hopefully be enough to keep me well-hydrated! Now recovering from lifting all 35 lbs of DD into the shopping cart this morning at the grocery store....sigh. (We usually walk there and she's in a stroller, but she wanted to ride her scooter and I didn't feel like chasing her down the aisles!)
I babysat early yesterday (2pm) so DH and I took the girls on a walk at the UW Arboretum. He got some practice! He tried to put the infant seat in the base forward facing and I was actually super nice about it and just told him it goes the other way. He pushed the stroller the whole time too! Then the 9 month old had a small blowout so he dressed her in snap-up pajamas! I was impressed he matched up the snaps on his first try lol He also got to experience the irrationalness of 2.5 year olds. She freaked out over a ladybug on the ceiling. That he pointed out. *eyeroll* So he had to get rid of it haha Then later he was leaving and couldn't find his hat and sunglasses and I told him to look in the cube (ottoman thing with storage) and she goes "Oh! I hid it!"
Today he is on a long bike ride with a friend and as he was leaving he said "think of where you want to go on a walk today" I gave him a death stare. But I love that he is encouraging me to walk. Even though it sucks and I hate it. So I guess we are going on a walk this afternoon! Other than that I'm just relaxing and enjoying the nice weather with the windows open!
I just got my hair and makeup done for my maternity pictures and... I hate my hair. Will try to adjust before we meet up with the photographer at 6:00!
The half went well. I'm so proud of myself for running up until just shy of 34 weeks!
As for my dad, he just got out of surgery to decompress his spinal cord. Surgeon said it went as well as he could have hoped and now we wait. He isn't very optimistic about his leg function but we are just thankful his heart was able to hold up for this Hail Mary attempt to save function.
I've also been sitting here at the hospital in these smelly marathon clothes. But I really wanted to see my dad before he went in, support my mom, and now I'm waiting to see him. The shower I take tonight will be amazing.
@MotherofDragons that is an intense day of highs and lows!!! The Running High and the lows of dealing with any medical issue. Enjoy that shower but also make sure you get plenty of rest
We had a 2.7 earthquake with the epicenter literally down the road from my house and I didn't notice it. I think my body is always rocking and rolling with the baby's movements that it didn't feel any different LOL
Today we played a lot outside. The weather was glorious. We spent a few hours at the inlaws helping with some of their outside work. They are old and unable. Then we cooked out kabobs and teriyaki chicken with asparagus and red potatoes on the grill and had my folks over. All I was missing was a nice frosty beer.
Ended up spending the afternoon going to a few wineries in Niagara Obviously the ideal place to be when 7 months pregnant.
Some friends of ours were going and invited us, and since DH and I also make wine jelly as part of our side business, we went along to find a few new wines to use for an upcoming sale that we have. I definitely got a few strange looks, even though I only took the tiniest of sips of the ones that DH determined might be good candidates!
Plus we went to a peanut/candy shop afterwards and bought a bunch of snacks, sat in a park by the lake and polished off a whole package of gummies in the beautiful weather, so overall a very good day!
We had an impromptu campfire tonight because the weather was so awesome. After dinner, dh put dd to bed, and then we made s'mores, because I wanted to. Dh says that s'mores are primarily for children and it is weird to make them by ourselves after bedtime, but I 100% plan on making and eating them regularly for the rest of my life regardless of whether my kids are present or not.

S'mores are not for kids only! And they're also awesome if you make them out of Oreos (regular flavour or, as I prefer, the vanilla ones) instead of graham crackers.

In my exciting weekend news, I just ate more sour cream than a human should consume at once. No regrets.
