Funny we talked about Judah as a girls name but it's such a boys name I got nervous about it.. plus Judah and levi were brothers in the Bible and we already have a Levi so that might have been weird lol..
  • Bible-inspired names:
    Eden
    Seleh
    Tirzah
    Atara
    Shiloh
    Priscilla
    Tabitha
    Lydia
    Junia
    Susannah
    Magdalena
Cherith - a brook floating into the Jordon where God provided for Elijah when he was in hiding from Ahab

I also grew up in circles where some girls had Greek or Hebrew words from the bible as names. It's not really my style, but it's done a lot ahs can be pretty: Alethea (truth) and Adayah (God's jewel) are both names I've seen a couple times.

Thank you.. so many pretty names that end in a and don't flow well with maria.. Eden and Shiloh are out unfortunately due to pet names. Haven't heard cherith before but I cant say i like it as much.. thanks for your help though! Praying for the right one to stick!

Gotcha. Here's a couple more I thought of from Koine (biblical) Greek:
Zoe means life. Zoe Maria is pretty. This is probably what I would go with if I were you.
    Eirene means peace
Chara means joy. It does end in A, but somehow it didn't sound bad to my ear with Maria like Sophia (wisdom) or Theoria (vision, I think) do

I know you are set on Maria, and it is a lovely middle name, but if it is too limiting, maybe you could consider using it as a first name instead or using Marie as the middle name... still honors your mom, but gives you more flexibility with those names ending in A.

Thank you. I agree Zoe Maria is beautiful and my good friend just gave birth to her first daughter naming her Zoe last week lol! Honestly I'm feeling better and better about Haven. I'm starting to really visualize putting it on my daughter and all the other names suggested, although beautiful, just don't feel right to me like this one does. I know it's not what everyone likes and I'm choosing to disregard any stripper/porn star comments because I just don't agree with that especially coming from a Christian household where we are choosing the name because we find our safe haven in Jesus.. I really do appreciate everyone's help though and if anything it just helped me reaffirm that I believe we have the right name :)
  • @ellie111227 I think I have a girl crush on you now for bringing the Koine!
  • @ladylolly89 Haha I spent way too many years of dh collecting various degrees in dead languages not to pick up a few things. Plus, I legitimately have known girls with all of those names. Evangelical hipsters love to name their girls Aletheia!

I took 2 years of Koine before DH and I started dating. I have forgotten a lot and I miss it! I was going to start in a Hebrew class but life got too busy.
One of my best friends is named Alatheia (different spelling, but still).
  • Yeah, I think I have seen a couple different transliteration options for that one!

I never took it, but dh has a BA in ancient languages, an MA in biblical exegesis, and an MDiv (which is a more general degree, so he had a lot more Greek and Hebrew starting out than he would have had to take there, but it still involved using it a lot. He did some Akkadian and Aramaic there, too.). We actually have alphabet magnets our refrigerator in Hebrew, because I put them in his Christmas stocking one year and he loved them so much. Nerd. :-)
  • Haha! That's awesome. My brother is getting his MDiv right now - lots of work and fascinating study! I wish he lived closer so I could pick his brain.
