I'm currently a kindergarten teacher at a private kindergarten. We are based out of a church so it's a really unique situation in the sense that there are no other classes or teachers there. I do have one EA who works with me and she is amazing. I did substitute teach for half a year after I graduated and have also worked as a curator at an art studio teaching kids and adult art classes. I love teaching and it is definitely meant for me but I've been starting to feel burnt out this year. I'm looking forward to my mat leave for some time away. I would love to be a SAHM but its definitely not an option for us at this point. I will likely be going back to work the September following baby's arrival so I will have 10 months at home. Since we are in Canada I could take 2 more months and go back in November. We will see how it goes. So interesting to hear about everyone's careers!
I was an elementary school teacher before kids, I stayed home when my first was born until last year when I went back to work part time at a preschool. It works really well for us, I am provided with free childcare for my youngest and a discount for my preschooler, plus the extra money is helpful.
@rms924 I became interested when my Mamaw passed away the summer before high school. I started volunteering at a funeral home in my hometown and then never left lol. I was lucky they had a job for me once I graduated and became licensed.
After graduating with a BA in History I returned to my hometown and worked for a local non-profit/Family Resource Center/community center running teen programs, doing drug and alcohol prevention and teaching nutrition classes (among other things). A couple of years ago I left that job and was hired as the Culinary Arts teacher at the high school. Right now I teach 3 classes a day at the high school and one at the middle school.

Not long after high school I got into banking (teller) which I loved until the job became all about sales. I did banking for about 8 1/2 years. I also worked as a supervisor at CVS for about 4 1/2 years. Then I worked at a daycare for a little over a year as an infant teacher. I loved the job but not who I worked for and it pays horrible.
I just got a job with The United States Postal Service as a mail carrier in January but it's 6 days a week and about 55 hours a week and I'm just not sure I'm going to be able to continue with 2 kids. It is a good job in the long run. Once I get a career position I'll have Sundays and holidays off and much better benefits but it's about a 2 year wait currently. I've been considering just going back into banking for more stable hours now that they passed a law that they can't push sales goals on them but we shall see.
@foxaírt Wow! Sounds very interesting. How did you get into that? Specifically your studies of historical lingerie?
General interest really but starting with corset making I've a cert 4 in formal wear and corsetry construction so it's only natural to expand into all foundation wear
I am currently pursuing my masters in social work, and I work as a youth prevention educator at a domestic violence and sexual assault services agency. I'm also completing an internship at a child mental health facility where I provide therapy for children and their families.
Before I journeyed into the world of DV, SA and mental health, I received a masters in human resources. During my internship for that degree, I worked with an executive coach/talent management professional and decided to become a certified stress management coach and certified life coach. I no longer practice as a stress management coach, but I still practice as a life coach. I'm also a published author and empowerment speaker. Needless to say, I wear many hats and I don't see SAHM in my future. Although, I was a SAHM until DD was 6 months old.
I work at a day program with adults with intellectual developmental disabilities. We take them out into the community to volunteer and also do fun things - we've gone to plays, on hikes, and next week were going to Hershey park. It gets them seen and acquainted with the community instead of being banished or looked at weird because they're "different"
I work in non-profit marketing and communications, specifically with membership organizations. My first job was with an an international organization, and I'm now with a metropolitan association. The variety of work keeps me engaged and interested, and getting to know the members and helping them succeed in their careers/achieve their goals makes it really fulfilling.
I am a project manager for a (healthcare) benefits administration and consulting company. Very knowledgeable about medical benefits, voluntary benefits, life and disability benefits, etc. I manage open enrollments for larger companies who want their employees enrolling online instead of by paper.
My fiance is in IT at a big banking firm and is a volunteer firefighter and fire police captain.

I'm a wedding photographer who is now VERY grateful I didn't land a lot of bookings this year--I'm so sick I wouldn't survive a wedding. I plan to max at 20/year once baby comes so I can be very present but still give my clients the detailed custom services I'm known for. I adore my job!
I went to the University of Texas and completed their dietetics program - where you take all your regular major courses and also complete a two year internship at the same time. I graduated and became a registered dietitian but now work as a financial advisor. Been doing that for 13 years and hold Series 7 and 50 licenses.
I love that there are fellow photographers here I have a real estate photography and virtual staging business in Salt Lake City. We've been going back and forth on moving back to Texas for a while, so when we found out a couple of weeks ago that we are have TWINS, we decided to take the plunge. It will be nice having family around to help, but I'm worried by business won't be as successful there. We will see

@lancomechica@MissMonroe11 Do (or did) you like being a dietician? I have considered going back for a degree in dietetics/nutrition, but I've never been sure what the work is like. Also, the science of nutrition always seems so muddled and/or changing that I feel like it would be hard to be confident in what you're telling people.

@lahansen I do really like the field of dietetics but its a low paying field and that was one of the biggest reasons I got out of the bedside practice of dietetics. I preferred hospital nutrition support so tubefeeding and parenteral nutrition.
@knewton785 I had to start over when we moved to this town. It's been HARD but I'm grateful for it being slow right now because so far pregnancy is awful and I can't work anyways. You got this! If you're on FB join The Rising Tide Society--we're an organization for all creatives and focus on community over competition and have local chapters meeting monthly all over the world. Game changer when you're new to business or new to an area!!!
@lahansen I agree with @lancomechica I love the field and enjoyed the job but it is low paying especially for all the school and continuing education it requires. It was a fun major.
I'm a CQI Adminstrator at a community based correctional facility. Basically I oversee the treatment services we are providing and make sure the group teachers and case managers are doing what they're supposed to. I'm a licensed drug and alcohol counselor but I don't actively do that anymore-just audit other people who are!
I manage Marketing and Communications for a Habitat for Humanity affiliate. I do a lot of graphic and print design, manage our website and social media channels and write/edit a lot of copy. Since we're a nonprofit, I get to wear a few other fun and exhausting hats! Love my job though
