Previous Birth Stories

I had seen posts on some other boards of birth stories, and thought it would be wonderful to hear the different experiences of women on our board. I didn't see a thread about this so hopefully its okay. Just anything you feel comfortable sharing from your experience whether it's type, pain management, time, and even any helpful tidbits for those of us FTMs.

Some questions I have seen included:
 Rants/Raves?
Was it similar to what you expected?
What things might you try to do differently?
Necessities to bring to the hospital?
Was it your doctor who delivered?
How did your SO/DH do?
Any advice for the other SOs/DHs out there?
Other advice you might want to share?

edited because it edited my post for me, edited title

  • @wyomama0427  was any explanation ever given for why they had such a hard time with your epidural?

@wyomama0427  was any explanation ever given for why they had such a hard time with your epidural?
Nothing concrete, the anesthesiologist said if he had to guess, the epidural space was too narrow. My chiropractor did agree that my hips seem enlarged and my spine is on the smaller side.

Edited to say that we were going to do X-rays to check that out but then I got KU lol
  • @kelseyrayay holy shit, it slid out of your back?!?! That's insane!! I get a spinal block with my RCS this time and I'm super stoked about that.
@beccam1230 wow that does sound scary! I'm glad everything turned out okay with his heart rate and the cord and stuff. My DH almost passed out when they put the IV in because he hadn't eaten in a while so the nice nurses got him a sandwich and a juice lol lol
  • FTM here so I don't have my own birth story. However, I've been following Yoga Girl on instagram for years and she just had a baby and released a podcast about her birth story. I thought it was a great listen.

  • @Inanigloo I find it super interesting that you lost your mucous plug while you were in labor! I know everyone is different, but I lost mine like a week before my water broke. Just think it's interesting how different these things are for people! Odd question.. was yours the "bloody show"?
  • @wyomama0427 Yes it was. It was so weird the whole experience to be honest. My water didn't break till just before my daughter came. My son's birth, my water broke 2 weeks before my due date and nothing happened for 4 days. I ended up being induced.

    Labor is so unpredictable.

  • @Inanigloo see that's why I find it so interesting, my mucous plug came out in mostly one piece, and it was completely clear. No blood, no streaks of anything. I'm very curious how it will happen this time around
  • @DaphneMoon1 wow.. your first sounded really difficult (to say the least) I also had oxygen and it drove me insane.. I felt like it was in the way. I'm actually really surprised they gave you Phenergan. I took it as an alternative to zofran in my first tri of my first pregnancy. Only took it once! It put me to sleep all day, the. I woke up and was a huge bitch haha. No more. It seems like they could have given you something that would have actually helped with labor, by keeping you awake!

  • @Sugargirl1019 @HollyGolightly09 ahh I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to spook you! Should I change the title? I'm not sure I know how but will if you think that might keep more people from being nervous.

I am so happy for all the stories shared so far.
  • @iheartichi yessss.. +1 for the extra Dermoplast. Amazing stuff.

  • What was the thread name before? With this thread name my first thought was the story of OUR births, as in, when we were the infant lol. I felt like such a dumb FTM when I opened the thread. :D

I have had to slowly read this thread as I get queasy rather quickly. (I'm sure you're asking...and you plan to give birth?) But I appreciate everyone sharing their experiences and all the details. It really helps me picture the many scenarios.

Either way, thank you everyone for sharing your birth stories. I'll be honest, some of yall's stories are straight horrifying/scary as a FTM, but thanks for the reality check.

    That is all.
    This exactly.

Really, though, thank you all for sharing!

  • I love how this post keeps changing names.  I think it should be called all of the names it has been previously named  :D  Or maybe it needs a sentence - Previous (Not Current) Birth Stories from STMs+ with Q&A Helpful to FTMs (Birth Stories NOT from Current Pregnancy).....

ETA:  I'm totally being sarcastic.  I mean nothing by this comment, the name change is just entertaining.
the only name i saw on it was "Birth Stories" i didn't know there were any other names prior to that. :grimace:

  • @Sprite2012 this made me actually laugh out loud at my desk.

@labby18 no worries! title suggestions are welcomed. I don't want anyone to be spooked or confused, especially since it seems like this can be pretty sensitive!
