First baby purchase

I thought it'd be fun to share what thing is our first baby purchase...

Little or big doesnt matter.

Mine was today... it was kind of dumb. I was in the chemist waiting around for a script and wandered into the baby section.  They had organic bamboo baby newborn clothes and wraps. I bought a swaddling wrap in a neutral cream colour. It felt really special and cute.

  • Naw....cute.
  • Nothing yet but I'm a seamstress and a crocheter  we've picked out a toy to crochet in either colourgrown cotton or natural baby alpaca (haven't chosen yet) and I make sustainable slow fashion so will put together some newborn suits in bamboo with custom print . I don't see us buying A LOT . We started looking at the big stuff to see what we like and need but nothing bought yet  will have our scan on Monday (12 wk) and might think of something little and special to get from us after that . We still haven't told anyone and won't be till mother's day so we aren't really in baby mode yet . Will be buying a house and moving before November (I hope ) and so more worried about getting  our own space first
  • @foxaírt those pieces will be very special indeed! Howbeautiful.

@irishfrisky ha ha.... what a good idea. Problem is.... whose team? DH and I goo for different teams..... for all sports!
  • So far I haven't bought the baby anything because we have everything from our first baby, but we will find out the gender this time and I'm sure I'll get some baby clothes!

  • @slaven I busted out my leftover stash from DD the day I found out I was pregnant, and almost splurged on some NB flats. I had to stop myself because of all the deals you get for spending more on kellyscloset lol! So far my only purchase has been the darling diapers pattern. I can't wait to build up a cute stash of newborn fluff!

@armstrongatron My stash needs to be stripped from my other two. I've tried everything and nothing worked. My last attempt is blue dawn and the bathtub! Love Cloth!

    Same here.
  • I haven't purchased anything yet as we have most everything we need from DS.  We are planning a trip to Ikea this weekend though.  I will be 12 weeks at that point so we may go ahead and pick up the crib and mattresss while we are there.
  • @CubsFan7 garage sales are a great idea, especially for items for grandma!
  • @MississippiCatfish I'm hoping this baby is a healthy boy for you!
  • @Airynn Chica Blue dawn always worked well for me. I had to strip a lot toward the end because my sister was watching DD a lot while I was working and she wasn't great about scraping solids. I also had a bunch of pockets with MF inserts and those all had to be stripped once a month due to stink issues. I didn't really find flat love until later in the game, but I think I'm going to use mostly flats and fitteds this time around.

  • I bought a friend's stash of cloth diapers a few years ago in preparation, but I don't know if that counts  Other than that, I got a bunch of A+A stuff (burpy bibs, swaddles and sleep sacks) when they were on Zulily a few weeks ago.

  • We've had several pop-up consignment sales recently and at the last one (didn't know I was pregnant til then) we got a wooden Carter brand high chair that reclines and originally retails for about $130 for $25.  I was super psyched about that!  I'll definitely re-upholster as I've sewn since I was 12 but I love the frame!  I also grabbed a couple gender neutral gowns/sleepers and solid color onsies (and one little floral onsie dress cause I loved the pattern) because they were all of $1.50/$2 a piece.  Lastly, got the little pair of shoes we used in our announcement photos.  Red "converse" crib shoes- so either gender friendly!  :D

  • I probably won't buy anything until it's time to decorate the nursery, or after we find out the sex. Although I might convince DH to buy something small after our appointment tomorrow...to celebrate if all is well!

I got two things.  I got a car seat cover that goes on top like a shower curtain.  I have one but it goes under the seat belt and that's not allowed now.  Makes me feel bad for using the other one but when I had DS1 that's all that was on the market.  I got it in a dove grey so it's gender neutral.

I also got a little santa suit.  I know it's ridiculous but it was on clearance for $5 and I was having such bad nausea and I thought getting something to make me excited would help.  It's gender neutral I think.  Although after having two boys I'm convinced this one will also be a boy and so that's all I picture when I look at stuff.

  • I haven't bought anything yet, but I'm looking into buying a double stroller and a crib soon. And once we know the gender I'll know if I need nothing (if it's a boy) or if I get to buy adorably pretty clothes (if it's a girl)!
  • @lancomechica2 wow! I can't wait that long! lol I plan to try to research everything I can and then buy things over the summer. I'm a planner and I already can't wait to have the nursery set up! Our two oldest share a room. The two middle share a room. And the two babies will share a room, so I want to see how it'll work with twice the amount of baby stuff! :hushed:

I loved the baby bargains book to pick everything...I just have a problem pulling the trigger on do I really need this or not. So I choose and then wait. Sometimes with regret but I still have some stuff I bought from DS that I never opened or used  :#
  • I found a 4moms Rockeroo on clearance at target,it was too good to pass up especially since we got rid of everything after #3  :D

  • We went and bought a grey chevron blanket that has a cute little fox on it. We also got a pacifier with the logo of our favourite hockey team since our team is playing in the playoffs. We announced to our parents by wrapping the pacifier up giving it to them.
  • I've bought a few little things here and there. The first was a pair of Freshly Picked moccasins in grey. I learned that they have a "first pair" collection that's half the price of the normal moccs, so it was a splurge I was okay taking because teeny feets

  • I don't know! Maybe when I got a few things at once since I had a BRU coupon and needed to get our nephew a birthday gift. I got two 75% carriers - Ergo and K'tan along with a gender neutral St. Patrick's outfit that was way on sale. I bought a few things when I was pregnant in Nov-Jan too and couldn't remember what was when.
It's funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most...not where you live, or what you drive, or the price tag on your clothes... There's no dollar sign on a piece of mind, this I've come to know! *ZBB*

  • I haven't bought anything for the new baby yet and I likely won't get much since it is our third, but I always get each child their very own super soft baby blanket. I pretty much buy the fluffiest, softest blanket I can find and it sleeps with the child, so it is a nice comfort and transition item.

I forgot! I bought two NB Christmas sleepers with little Santa hats on 90% off clearance at target when we decided to TTC. Wasn't expecting to get PG on the first month trying, but thought it was worth a shot that it'd be in the first couple since they were only a couple dollars! Hopefully he or she will still fit in NB at 4-5ish weeks. That's pushing it for my kiddos so far.

  • I haven't bought anything yet, but reading all of your responses makes me want to! I still have all our "big" items, and every clothing article DS & DD have worn so far, so we probably won't need much. Although I would love a new rocker/recliner for when baby comes!
  • Airynn Chica We had to use Spray n wash after daycare used a ton of diaper cream on baby and then used cloth. My husband sprayed it, then let it soak awhile and scrubbed it out with a toothbrush. The diapers were "clean" but the water that ran out was nasty... all the pee had gotten stuck in the diaper cream. Super gross. THen we just rinsed a million times before putting it back on baby. Saved our cloth!

  • A car seat. Before I was even pregnant, it was on clearance at target for $60 and I HAD to. They are $150+ new.

  • For anyone who will be registering soon, I really recommend the baby bargains book. It gives a lot of reviews sorted by item, and also gives a synopsis of what's "good" "better" and "best." Made my job so easy!

also, for anyone who might want more than one kidddo, look into the city select stroller. I love it, and when number two comes, instead of having to get a new stroller, we just have to get a seat to add into it. It has I think 16 combinations of how you can do it and is really nice. I love it!
  • A pack of diapers! I got a good price on some size 1s. We won't buy too much since this will be #3. We need a double stroller and maybe a new car seat. Unless baby #3 is a girl…then I'm sure I'll be shopping like crazy.
  • I haven't bought anything yet, I don't even know where to begin.
