Ideas to destress?!

Hey I hope someone hasn't already posted about this... Does anyone have any tips to deal with stress and irritability? Currently a day short of 10 weeks and loosing my mind from work. I work at an impound lot and I am seriously borderline ready to scold every idiot that doesn't listen to my instructions, customer or employee.  Ugh

Re: Ideas to destress?!

  • I've been laying on the couch under a blanket, watching Call the Midwife. I also really want to take a long a bath sometime today. My husbands been away on business and I'm going to ask for an hour to do that tonight.

Breathe! Seriously just take a min and breathe. It works if you try seriously.

  • Today I was exhausted but couldn't nap because my mind was racing with work stuff, so I listened to an ASMR vid on YouTube (Heather feather is my go to) and passed right out.
  • You could try a meditation app. I have one called "Stop, Breathe & Think" and I've really enjoyed the meditations on there (they're not like "clear your mind" types, more like focusing on a certain kind of thought, like compassion).

  • Yes to meditation apps! Love them, or even just ocean noise, etc. The NP I saw at 6 weeks said essential oils are fine, but the lady I get my oils from was a little wary about first trimester use. I would love to clarify this. Have you tried painting your nails or an "adult" coloring book? I love that I know all this, but have a hard time practicing it on myself lol
  • Yes @hopeful87-2! I lived in the shower with my first pregnancy. Now since I have a 15 month old I don't have that same kind of time and also usually have my DS in there with me, but it's still relaxing. I also loved swimming to de stress. 1 more month until it's warm enough to swim!
  • I find that taking little breaks and walking outside helps. Oh and baking too :)
  • I Bump (or just internet), take a quick nap (HA!), or take a shower by myself. I usually shower at night after the kids go to bed, so that is my go to, but during the day if I need some time so I don't kill my children I Bump or go to notalwaysright.com for a little while.

  • Don't forget that making yourself happy or laugh is also really good at destressing as it provides endorphins when we need them most.
  • Bath and body works makes an amazing stress relief candle.  I light that while in the bath and it's wonderful!
  • @KLink15 hope you get to figure out the best way for you to distress soon! Personally I use a karaoke app on my phone when I'm alone in the house
  • @eunhasong karaoke app!! That's brilliant!
  • @ShePersisted you think so?! I started using that app because I'm a karaoke addict and wanted to save time and money by just doing it at home. The app I use have options to duet and group sing with others so I made some friends too  :)
  • @c+mpeachey  Yes to funny things as well! I watched parks and recs during my first pregnancy and read Tina fey's book Bossy Pants (hysterical!). I am also a big fan of Chelsea Handlers books (sometimes they are a bit offensive- but usually funny). We are watching the office start to finish on Netflix right now.
  • @eunhasong my fav activity if I'm ever feeling down is to blast my music in a car and just sing really loud. It's an amazing feeling especially when I get my 80s rock on. I don't do karaoke but maybe I will.  My 3 yr old loves to sing and thinks he's Bruno Mars so I think it may just work.
  • @ShePersisted same here! I drove alot for work till I reduced lil bit. Blasting music and all that in the car is the best! But sometimes when I'm feeling extra sick even singing made me drive heave for some reason  :s so these days I drive with my mouth closed lol but then in the evening I'm ok
  • I am a huge fan of meditation apps and essential oils! I use one called CALM (for android) that is like adult bed time stories. I struggled with the more traditional ones and this seems to work well for me at night in that I don't know how most of the stories end because I'm already asleep! For the essential oils, I've cut back a lot since finding out I was pregnant but I'll still use them on my temples and under my nose and it helps me so much! Once upon a time, I'd have recommended a run or Pilates but good lord, what I'd give for the energy to do either one of those things now!!
  • @abs1686 what essential oils are you using? One of my favorites is bergamot. It seems to be on the "safe" list. The oils lady I get them from gave me a paper about oils & pregnancy, but it was WAY over my head.
  • 08-16-08jms, I am a huge fan of the young living. I have the lavender, sandalwood and thieves. I also have a calming blend that's a different brand that I found at whole foods once upon a time. I really love all of them! There are so many different choices and brands and so much information out there on everything that it's easy to get overwhelmed with them but I can say I've heard the best is Young Living when it comes to purity in the blends. I don't know if that helps!
