Breast Pads

Any STMs out there have any recommendations for a good brand or Etsy seller for breast pads? Do you prefer disposable? Or were the washable ones better for you? If you went with the washable kind was there a particular fabric type that seemed to work / feel better?

  • I used washable ones. I had one of those coupons where it was like a gift card that gave you the same amount of money as like 10 packs. So I got a ton and only had to pay 8ish dollars for S and H. They were pretty awesome. Fabric is cotton. Totally worth it.

I tried some washable ones but they didn't have a good backing and I leaked right through them. I've heard of some ones that have a good backing and don't leak but I don't know what the brand was and I just didn't look very hard to find them. As far as disposables go I liked the lansinoh ones as well. The NUK ones are okay but they're huge, the Johnson and Johnson ones are tiny and have a nipple indent that is visible through your bra.
  • I used washable  bamboobies pre baby for early leaks they are so soft. However,  I  was a major over supply mama and they just didn't cut it for several months after DS was born. I liked the medela ones and lanisho3 (sp? )

  • @Souptin I also had major oversupply, and it was so bad. Letdown was like a firehose lol

This same thing happened to me I was leaking all the time unless I was using the blue round ones instead of the heart shaped ones they sell. And sometimes if I doubled up on the heart shaped ones that would work too
  • @wyomama0427 I  hear that!  Apparently, my body was made to feed ALL the babies.  @lap018 I was SO disappointed that they were not more absorbent!  They are the softest product out there. I still recommend them and did go back to them about 6ish months into the breastfeeding journey.

  • I think I used the medela washable ones and maybe babies r us brand? Both were fine, sometimes I leaked through but I'd wash them and grab another. The disposable were not comfy to me plus I didn't like the added stress of running low and having to get more.
  • I tried re-usable ones and just could never find ones that worked. I also had an insane letdown and supply. I used what ever one came in a purple package. They were the only ones I didn't leak in and the were super comfy. I will try re-usable ones again for when I'm at home but the disposable ones for out of the house.

  • I tried washable but would leak through them. And I thought they were bulkier and easy to see through a t-shirt that was the least bit fitted. I really liked the lasinoh disposable variety
  • @kaylaakosua the purple ones are the lansinoh! I really liked those. I'll probably be using those again. I should go buy a few boxes now just to stock up lol
  • @mrs_tacos I am the same way! I literally started making my list of needed things today. The only thing I've bought so far is one pair of dinosaur pajamas.  :p

I used Medela brand mostly, with some Lansinoh mixed in. I haven't tried the cloth ones, but had friends tell me they leaked through them. I thought the Medela ones were comfy enough, although I used a nipple shield throughout BFing DS so I'm not sure I was as sensitive physically.

Edit because although he may have enjoyed it, DH was getting none of that!

  • @mrs_tacos You may never need them that much, tbh. It depends on the person.  :)

I really liked Lansinoh and Medela disposables, but I never tried reuseables.  I'd probably lose them all in the laundry!  I also had a major oversupply, which I'm hoping to avoid this time around.  Nothing says uncomfortable like 70oz of pumped milk a day.

  • I used generic Target brand disposables and liked them.

  • I liked the Nuk disposables and Lansinoh. I have a couple pairs of reusable but I leaked right through them. Plus they wouldn't stay put in my bra and ended up migrating up and away from my nipples. Too much of a headache
  • Sometimes I've been very close to making the DH/DS mix up but I reread and am like WHOAAAA no way haha!
@sjohns08 I didn't mind the NUK disposables but they felt really huge to me! Not all bad because they covered my entire bra cup but I still liked the lansinoh ones best.

@wyomama0427 I'm the opposite, I thought that Lansinoh were too bulky! I'm also a cheapskate and since I changed them 3-4 times a day, I liked that Nuk were cheap and you got a ton of them

ETA: I may change my tune this time around since I actually had a breast reduction since my last baby, so my boobs are nowhere as monstrous this time lol!

Lansinoh all the way. They keep you dry and don't shift around a ton like all the other brands I tried. They didnt bunch up in my bras and weren't visible through a t shirt. Make sure you get the soft kind designed for early on. The other kind are rougher and buy the biggest boxes possible for major savings. I'll try to find a link.

I tried washable cotton pads, but they were bulky and soggy. I was also an over producer, so leaking happened a lot. The added pressure really hurt my nipples.

  • I used disposable for my son until I quit nursing so much. Then, I started using the breast pads that come in bras as inserts. They're soft, round, and just the right padding. I pulled them out of all my lulu sports bras and nursing bras and used them for months. I also used them with some unlined bras I have. I don't know how they'll hold up to lots of leaking, but I'm definitely going with washable ones this time.

  • I loved my bamboobies. They was they felt was awesome.  You can see them through tight shirts if you have a thin bra on (I still live in my Medela night time nursing bras... So comfy). I will use them again for sure. Having a small wet bag with a back up pair in the diaper bag and my pump bag was always key. Also I had a garment bag for them in the washer. That helped me not lose them anymore.
  • Haha almost no point in me posting! I'm very similar to lots of other ladies here! I tried every kind of reusable pads, but I had a massive oversupply... and it always ended up in my shirt being completely soaked. I loved the lanisoh disposables. I'm definitely going to use them again with this one, they were comfortable and never leaked. Sometimes I would take them out and they felt like wet diapers, but they really held a lot.

  • Looks like Lasinoh disposables are loved quite a bit! I will definitely need to start stocking up on these.

My doctor gave me Lasinoh nursing pads samples as part of a giant packet starter kit. Handy. :-) just a few but it makes me happy my doctor is recommending the same thing.

ETA or at least that Lasinoh had enough money to give lots of marketing materials
  • @wyomama0427 hahahaha I've done that too many times!! I actually forgot about that until you said it!

  • I used the Lasinoh disposable pads. I tried a few washable and didn't love them.  I had enough laundry to do ;-)
