Trouble TTC

So Overwhelmed...

Hi girls,

I feel so overwhelmed right now and would really love to hear from some of you that were/are in the same boat.  My husband and I have been TTC for over a year now (read TCOYF, chart, use OPKs, he's had a S/A, I've had beginning BW done, blah blah blah...)  Due to some cramping pain throughout my cycle, family history, and some other things, my GYN referred me to a surgeon who wants to do a lap to check for endometriosis (and also do a dye test while she's in there).  She has scheduled the lap for March.   In the meantime, we are starting Clomid this cycle (I'm on CD 2, so I'll start in a few days), doing CD 3 and CD 7 BW, and also getting an HSG done on CD 11.  I found all of this out on Friday and my head is spinning a bit!  My Dr. originally encouraged us to wait 1 year before we did any other tests or things, and now that we have, I feel like we are doing everything at once, which is exciting but again, overwhelming at the same time.

Also, for my BW, they want me to go CD 3 (tomorrow) and CD 7 (Friday).  Friday is Christmas Eve, and I have already checked the labs and they are all closed.  I'm going to call the dr. tomorrow, but do you think it would be a big deal if I went on CD 6 instead?

Thanks!

  • Guess it's time to update my ticker.  Clearly I haven't been on here for a long time!!  Stick out tongue

  • Welcome! I know this is all so overwhelming! The Ladies on this board are very helpful and knowledgeable. I wanted to wish you good luck and I hope your stay is short and sweet.

Did your Dr. say what they are testing on CD7? Baseline bloodwork is normally done on CD3 which you are having done.

  • I think the lap is a great idea and is a pretty good indicator of what could be going on.

I had what my doc thought was a tubal cyst and wanted it out.  Turned out it was an ovarian tumor, I had stage 3 endo and my tubes and ovaries were adhered to my pelvic wall.  It's a really good thing I had the surgery when I did.  coming off bc the endo got that bad after only 4 months.

I know it probably seems really overwhelming, it did to me too, but it's all for your best interest and you'll be able to cross so many things off of your "why aren't I getting pregnant?" list.

  • The days that she wanted me to get bloodwork done were on the "Clomid Directions" sheet she gave me.  Could it have something to do with that?  I don't know---she was naming off CD days and instructions so quickly, I left there with my head spinning.

I am not sure. I would ask tomorrow when you go in for CD3 bloodwork. What days are you taking clomid?

  • Brideonjuly---I'm worried about the lap.  My mid-cycle cramping and cramps during AF have gotten SO bad since going off BCPs last October.  I'm scared of what she may find.  She said something about tubes possibly having to get tied if the blockage is too bad because it could lead to ectopic pregnancies.  I know it's extreme, but still really scary!

CD5-CD9. I ovulate on my own, but she said the clomid could help make my eggs stronger.  Do you think a lot of doctors prescribe clomid as just a routine beginning medication when couples are having trouble?  I was a little surprised she wanted us to try it.

I ovualte on my own as well and clomid was RX'd to me on our first cycle with the RE as well.  He said it's great that I ovulate one egg on my own but 2 eggs is always better:p

I know how you feel.  My first appointment with my doctor was on CD3 so I had an u/s, bloodwork and started clomid all on the first day!  It was a lot to wrap my head around but I was very happy that he was so proactive.  It was a nice change of pace for us!

    Good luck<3

I ovulate on my own too and I have done two rounds of clomid. Drs prescibe clomid as beginning steps as it oral medication and it ensures you have mature follicles.

  • I hope it's okay that I respond. It seems that this is your intro so I'll will. If you think it's okay for girls to respond who are pregnant and have been through infertility, put SAIFW in your siggy (success after infertility welcome).

I have a couple of questions. Is this an OB who is giving you the Clomid? I'm a little curious on  a couple of things. I'm not sure why she is having you do Clomid the same cycle as your HSG. I'm trying to remember back to my HSG, but I'm pretty sure it was on CD 8. Not that yours has to be, but I feel like yours is a little late. Also, if you seem like you could have endo and she's discussed ectopic, why does she have you trying with clomid? I know how badly you want a baby (I've been there my friend), but these are things you may what to ask.

I know it's scary, but if she referred you to surgeon, maybe you should start seeing a reproductive endocrinologist instead of an OB (if you aren't already). They know much, much more, and many girls will tell you that it's much better care.

  • I agree with BB.  Clomid is a serious drug and if it is other issues, it's not going to help anything.

OB's are better with babies, RE's are better with IF.

I wish you luck, dear.  The whole situation is overwhelming.  One day at a time.

I felt the same way just a few weeks ago! It was very overwhelming. I didn't have time to process any of it. It felt so unreal after I left the office. I talked to a friend the next day who went through the same steps and has a beautiful baby boy. She helped me feel less overwhelmed. Just remember you are not alone. It is scary, but we will do what we have to do. We won't think twice about it once we are holding our baby in our arms.

My two cents... My RE said that they will do my HSG anywhere between days 5-12 (so I'm guessing it will be on Dec 30) I am also going to be on clomid during my HSG cycle if it makes you feel better... They said they can do an ultrasound around then too. For the rest, I was just like you. When I left there my head was spinning!!!  GL

Hi! Thanks for responding!  I will attempt to but that into my siggy if I can remember how to!  It was actually the surgeon at my OB office who prescribed all of this.  When I called and scheduled my HSG, they said they had to do in anytime between CD6-CD12.  They scheduled it CD11.  Thanks for the information and advice.  I very much appreciate it.  The fact that they are all of a sudden wanting me to do everything at once is why I wanted to get some feedback on here.  Thank you!

This does make me feel better.  She didn't say anything about doing an u/s this cycle.  Should I be concerned that she isn't monitoring things through u/s?

I truly could not remember about HSGs and the timing. Mine was over a year ago. Just my opinion, the HSG and clomid just doesn't sit right with me. You really should have an HSG before starting treatments. Clomid with blocked tubes isn't going to help at all. Hang in there, the journey is can be frustrating, but you'll get plenty of advice here :)

Good luck with the siggy- TB recently changed siggy editing and I haven't attempted! LOL
