FFFC 4/14

Re: FFFC 4/14

  • @ugoglencoco agreed.

@emucoleman I guess I should clarify. I don't like when non-regulars come here and start a new thread about something that is about them, get the answers they want, and then leave. I feel like that happens a lot. It doesn't bother me when regulars do it because I assume they know what's going on and started a new thread for a good reason.

  • I hate big chunky headbands with flowers and bows on baby girls. I don't mind the smaller band ones with a tiny bow/flower as much but if it's at least 1/3 the size of the kids head it looks so silly to me.
This seems to be super regional. I don't like them either, but areas near me do.

I dont, however, generally have a problem with the giant cheerleader bows on little girls. We have a couple of girls in our preschool class that rock the big bows with their pony tails and they look so cute! This might be a regional thing still.

  • Man buns: it has to be on the right guy to pull it off (looking at you Jason Momoa) but on scrawny dudes it's a no for me personally.

I dont open a lot of the drive-by threads unless I know the OP or the subject line catches my eye

I'm not a huge fan of giant bows either, just NMS.

MY FFFC: I'm considering just skipping Easter this year. I'm headed to target to put together a little something for DS but I'm skipping all the egg hunts because it's HOT here and I don't want to bother with getting dressed cute and then dealing with all the candy and a 2yo. I've also turned down a few invites to come over day of. DH works that morning and I work that evening and being social seems like a lot of work.
  • I hate little girls clothes and if this one is a girl I won't be buying or accepting them. I have two boys and tons of perfectly good clothing that they wore, so this child will be wearing the same things.

Also, if this one is a girl, I will be buzzing her hair just like I buzz my boys. I have to clean everything out of it, I'm going to style it in something wipe-able.

  • @baycamp I was specifically thinking of Jason Momoa when I posted I love man buns. Oh man, he is just a gift to this earth brought from the heavens.
  • I'm definitely one of the lurkers. I tried not to be in the beginning, but it's so hard for me to keep up with everything and try to post too. Hopefully I can get better at this.

  • I actually totally agree with the girl clothes @ArtificialRed I feel like I see quite a bit of girls clothes in varying colors and with superheroes, TMNT, old vintage bands and such just like I see for the boys. And they both have horrible sayings on them sometimes. I don't see much difference I guess? There is the frilly stuff but I feel like they've really expanded girl clothing even more than boys. My kids love sky from paw patrol and beauty and the beast but they don't make much clothes with those characters on them for boys, but they do make minecraft or ninja turtle stuff for girls.
  • I have a love-hate relationship with little girl clothes. Some are adorable, and then you have overkill. My friend brought her daughter to DS's baby shower in an all black pleather ensemble. Whyyyyyy does a 6mo need a pleather miniskirt and matching boots with a shirt that says "bring me diamonds"???

But it I agree with @ArtificialRed some boy outfits have sayings that really grind my gears as well.
  • @baycamp @DuchessOfCambridge  i agree. Who dresses a 6mo like that? A little overboard if you ask me..

I agree! But then my oldest discovered headbands with huge flowers and bows and it's all she wants to do with her hair.

  • Another on the boat for not a man bun fan.  I think if you have the right personality you can pull it off, but the style as a fad is so not appealing to this girl (again, not something I'd say to the individual wearing it, just a personal opinion).  On that note, the newer fad with the long swooping hair on the top and the shaved sides?  It's basically a reverse mullet people.  You look like you're wearing a toupee. How bout we not?  Flame away.  Facial hair on the other side, I'm ok with if you maintain it.  DH has a SUPER baby face combined with some extra weight so the facial hair really gives him dimension and helps structure his face.

  • I hate all the stupid things boys clothes say too, and I don't buy them, but what I really dislike about the girls clothes is all the ruffles, sparkles, skirts, and bows on EVERYTHING. Yes, there are other colors, but I personally don't like pink, yellow or orange, just a personal preference. I think a pink shirt with sparkles and ruffles is just as ridiculous looking as the same shirt in blue or white. Also every shirt with "princess" somewhere on it with maybe the exception of "self-rescuing princess".  I do let my sons pick out what they want to buy, but I do usually try to steer away from stupid sayings or things that are just a little to violent.

  • I like the big bows for a baby, but not the big cheerleader style bows for girls.  I guess I'm opposite lol.

I got irritated that all I could find for my son was sports, trucks, or an occasional pirate outfit.  Clothes for boys are seriously lacking.  I think that's why I'm over extra frilly girl clothes.  I'd rather a toned down outfit and a small bow.

Also, Jason Momoa is beautiful and he seems so nice.  Anyone going to go see him as Aquaman?  I may have to.

DS1 is 7.  DD is 1.  DS2 is coming in late April.

  • @DuchessOfCambridge Ah, yes. I agree. No drive-bys.

@zigzag8412 Ugh, the douche swoop! I hate it too. Literally every guy had one on The Bachelorette last year; I couldn't tell the difference between them.

I agree with what PP have said about the over-gendering of baby clothes for both genders. I also don't like how so many toddler clothes (and some baby clothes too) are so flashy. I would never put on a shirt with a huge sparkly unicorn on it, so why would I want to put my daughter in it? When she gets old enough to pick out her own clothes, then she can wear that stuff if she wants to, but I wouldn't pick it out myself. (Unfortunately, she does have clothes like that thanks to my MIL, who would wear those clothes herself if she thought she could still be taken seriously.)

That said, I never judge other moms for what their kids are wearing (unless perhaps it is something completely inappropriate for a child to wear...). My preferences apply to my own offspring only. :P

  • I realize I'm probably heavily judged for how often my son has been to places like the grocery store in pj's. seriously people need to get some real problems. My kid wearing pj's to the store is far from my lowest parenting moment. He's fed and clean, take a hike.

My kid loves his pjs. It takes a lot of persuasion most mornings to convince him to get dressed. Some mornings I don't particularly care, but I had to put my foot down about wearing them to school (where they don't care at all, as long as he's wearing clothes) simply because it's too hard to get sand out of footy pjs. Sometimes my fil goes all, "still wearing your pjs, I see." He's four. It's fine.

  • I read this whole thread but all I can remember is Jason Momoa and now I need to go watch something he is in immediately drooooooooool

  • @ArtificialRed I have to battle to get my 2 and 4 year olds out of PJs every single time. Some days it just isn't worth it!!

  • @emucoleman I would totally wear a shirt with a huge sparkly unicorn on it if I could get away with it.  FFFC?

I don't know how to do gifs!  Otherwise I would use them.

  • @DuchessOfCambridge thanks for the tip! I have a ton of maternity clothes that were given to me but hardly any of them for the summer. MM had shorts on sale! If worse comes to worse I'll just return them.

  • Ew man buns.
  • Re: regulars...didn't everyone just have their first appointments? How many actual N17 "regulars" are there. Based on this tread only being 2pgs deep looks like not that many yet. Ours would be like 17 pages deep by this time of day on my former BMB.
  • I must admit I'm a sucker for most man buns. What drives me nuts is when dudes decide to grow their hair out and dont get it trimmed regularly to grow it out gracefully. I know ots possible because I've grown out pixie cuts twice. It's totally possible to move through the awkward in between stage without looking like a homeless scrub.

@baycamp I'm kinda skipping easter this year also. I'm going to do up a basket for DD and hide some eggs around the house, but she will be with her father until at least 5 so I'm nor going to bother with dinner. I have to be at the restaurant at 6am to set up for the Easter buffet, and I'll be running the banquet room upstairs so I think I'll just bring home some leftovers and call it good.

My FFFC- I resolved to eat healthy today and told myself i would have a salad for lunch. I had a rootbeer float and a quesadilla with an absurd amount of sour cream instead. Oops!

There's a lot more board organization than there used to be, so there are a lot less threads with more posts in each. There are quite a few N17 regulars.

@lancomechica2 Some people do appointment updates in the ultrasound thread. We also had a bunch of regulars with losses recently.

  • @armstrongatron yay for service industry holidays!! Just kidding, we don't get holidays lol

Our best "couple friends" are nurses so we all celebrate holidays on weird/off days
  • @NYTino24
I'm probably one of them. I work so much I might on here 10 minutes a day. Plus I'm pretty quiet in general so I tend to just sit back and observe.
  • @amber0529 Nope, I totally recognize you! You are busy delivering packages. :)

  • @baycamp Right? What's a holiday? Lol! I worked in healthcare for 6 years prior to becoming a line cook so I honestly can't even remember the last time I had thanksgiving or easter off. I have always been lucky enough to take Christmas morning off to be with DD, but I actually like working the holidays for the time and a half. My 12 hour turkey day shift last year paid for all of Cami's Christmas presents.

I have another friday confession that you guys can totally flame me for. I cooked off 40# of bacon for the buffet tomorrow and I didn't even eat any of it. I also managed to keep my paws out of the 10gl tub of cocktail shrimp. What is wrong with me?!

  • To jump in on the boy/girl clothing, I am only buying gender neutral clothing. I don't plan on having a shower, but if others buy clothing I will kindly accept, but if they offer/ask, I will ask for gender neutral.

I just prefer the look of gender neutral for at least the first year or two and will go with that in our nursery as well.
  • random but I really wish I could convince myself to wear leggings....so many of my coworkers do it, but I just can't feel good in them. We had a work day and training today and I wore my Zumba pants and was Soooo comfy.....but I just can't say I could do it for a regular day...what is your secret legging ladies??!!
