Conceiving after using Depo Provera

Just curious if any of you are TTC after being on depo provera and how long it took for you to get your period back. I have one more month before my shot 'ends'. Last time I was on depo it took 6+ months to get my period again tho.
Thanks!?

Re: Conceiving after using Depo Provera

  • I was due for my last shot in July of last year. I still haven't had AF yet. My doc put me on meds back in November to try to jump start AF but it didn't ( edit) work. I only got a day or so of light spotting. I'm holding out hope that my extreme bitchness today at work is finally some PMS coming back.

  • I've successfully conceived twice after depo.  First time, I don't recall how long it took for AF to come back, but I was PG within 3 months, when the Dr. told us 6mos. to a year before I could get PG.  This time, I was off the shot since Sept '06 and didn't ovulate until February of '08 (got AF, but through charting realized no O).  With meds from doc, clomid, and trigger shot I got my BFP and I'm now 35 weeks pg.

  • glad to hear it!

I keep reading about women having problems but it sound like most of them didn't realize it can take 6 months to a year to start ovulating again when they started the shot.

    Thanks for the info?

  • That was about my time frame too. I would suggest looking into "natural progesterone cream". It's the non-synthetic version of the provera your Dr. will want to give you if your cycle goes over 60 days. It's just a lotion that you rub on a couple times a day and it'll "jump start" your period, thus helping to "reset" your body. It did wonders for me. Good Luck!

  • Jason'swife: do you remember the brand you used? There seems to be a bunch to choose from.

    TIA?

Progesta-Care. You use it for 10-14 days (simulating your LP) then stop and your period should start a couple days later. Also, if you haven't already... I suggest that you read Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It's the bible of TTC. :)

  • Also, if you find your cycles are too long, have late ovulation, etc. you might want to read "the infertility cure" by Randine Lewis. It's all about herbal remedies. It really helped me fine tune my cycles after I finally started ovulating again. Very helpful.
