We are taking DD to Italy for 2 weeks in May- I will be about 21 weeks and she will be 13.5 months old. Should be fun
We did this when my son was about 18 months old and I was 5 months pregnant with DD. We did it again once my daughter was 18 months old as well and we took both kids
DD is super chill and easy going, so I think it will be fine. H and I love to travel and I am not about to stop just because we have kids. I know we will have to alter our style a bit, but I love the idea of showing our kids the world.
We were planning to do Disney World late summer but that's being put off for 2 years now. We may head Banff or Jasper for a weekend trip without our little. But with DDs activities and DHs schedule all that is a big maybe.
We are planning to drive to my moms in Texas in July and then leave all the kids with her while DH and I go to San Antonio for a few days by ourselves. We had it planned before our BFP.
I will be 32 weeks at the time so I'm not sure how my OB will feel about it. Im planning to check at my next appointment.
@LaceyC1020 I'm in Ontario and she wasn't comfortable w/us doing the 20+hr drive down there. My last pregnancy was somewhat difficult and she's nervous if something were to happen there I'm so far away. So unfortunately for my kiddos we had to cancel it. My 7yo was a little bummed
We just went to Florida in February and we've rented a cottage for a week on Lake Erie in late June. We picked a bit early so it won't be so hot and I won't be so huge. Hoping to bike while we're there!
DH has a bunch of Marriot and SPG points who have now merged. We are thinking about going on a weekend getaway before baby gets here for a mini babymoon
@moto_mom Oooh I see. That makes sense. We drove 4 hours to Tampa last weekend and it was rough. I had horrible back pain and some cramping. We're going to Disney in May, but it's a shorter car ride for us than tampa. Plus its the last weekend I'm allowed to travel. DH has to rent me a wheelchair for the parks because I'm on activity restrictions. Can't walk all around those parks like I want to! I'm sorry your kiddos are bummed about not being able to go. Maybe yall can make a trip once this LO arrives once you feel comfortable traveling with him/her.
DH and I are going to Chicago to visit some friends for Memorial Day weekend. I wish we could take a longer trip but I'm saving my vacation hours for when the baby comes. But a three day weekend trip should be nice! Oh and we're also going to Colorado for a quick weekend in July for maternity photos. I've dreamed about taking my maternity photos with red rocks in the background. One of my favorites part of Colorado.
@jena333-2 That's awesome! My family still owns a house in Orono and my husband and I have talked about moving there at some point. I do just adore everything on MDI though. Actually, this is the coat I've been wearing this Spring.
Which is super fun :-) Have a fantastic time. I'm jealous :-)
So, fun story about your jacket, and an illustration of how small the world can really be: DH and I worked in BH for 5 seasons (May-Nov); we worked in a restaurant, and our company bought the Whale Watching Co a few years ago. As employees, we could have gone on the boat for free, whenever we wanted. But we commuted in from Bangor six days a week. There was no way we were making the 1:15 drive on our one day off to go whale watching :P
The season is about to start back up, and I'm seeing on Facebook all our former coworkers are gearing up for the return to the island. I am kind of jealous. I miss the money, and many of the people, but I don't miss the job and I don't miss the hours!
@jena333-2 That's crazy! The world is definitely very small! Did you just move to MA this past year? My cousin spent several summers working on MDI and I was always jealous. I would not have liked that commute though. But living in Bar Harbor during tourist season is pricey!
My company will do employee housing (read: a small bedroom you share with one or two other adults) for $125/week. But we lived in Bangor year round (since I went to UMaine, many of the other employees travel with the company and work in FL for the winter) and had a dog and two cats, plus still would have had to pay our Bangor rent.
As much as it sucked spending 2.5 hours in the car every week, H and I commuted together most days, and we definitely saved money not living on the island. The restaurant culture, especially in a seasonal industry is very focused on drinking/bar hopping. Plus unless you want to use the same kitchen literally 50 other people are using, you end up eating out a ton.
I've been in MA for 1 year and 5 days. So this will be my second season away from the seasonal crew. I'm looking forward to seeing them in July, all big with baby.
Yall! We decided on going to Talladega! They have an amazing Military package for both days of racing, and with DH's Marriott rewards we could stay the whole weekend for free. I HATE watching NASCAR on TV, but it is so fun to watch in person. We'll be getting pit passes for before the race too, and getting some of the best seats in the house! Ah so excited! I told DH, I will spend the WHOLE weekend quoting Ricky Bobby, to which I received a healthy side eye followed by competitively spewing quotes from Talladega Nights. SHAKE AND BAKE BABY!
@HollyGolightly09 DH is into NASCAR...very much so. I never was. In college I went to the Richmond races a few times (completely hammered). When we lived in South Florida, I gave him the option of the Homestead Race or to go to see his football team (the chargers) play Miami Dolphins, and he picked the football game. So to do something fun for our babymoon we decided Talladega. We'll see how it goes. I'm excited. Talladega is only like 4hrs away from us.
We were going to...
Our plan was to hit up Seattle. The plane flight was hella cheap but the hotel was gonna kill us. Even for a weekend. Then we were gonna just drive up to Monterey Bay and explore otters.
But then...
Went to the dentist and need $400 worth of work. And that's WITH good insurance.
And DH's car engine light is on. We have a mini cooper...soooo that means $$$$.
When it rains...i guess?
@ohheyitskristine Spending money on non fun things is the worst! Also - have you looked into airbnb options. Always a good option when hotels are too expensive!
@ohheyitskristine Spending money on non fun things is the worst! Also - have you looked into airbnb options. Always a good option when hotels are too expensive!
yeah...seattle is just an expensive town we did airbnb for toronto...that was totally worth it. right on lake ontario, close to EVERYTHING....only $60 a night.
@ohheyitskristine We got lucky and stayed with friends last year when we visited Seattle. I never looked into hotels but it's nice to know that we saved a lot of money!
ohheyitskristine if you get a chance make sure to check out bainbridge island. beautiful...and you get the fun ferry ride out there. You can just go for ice cream and walk around their cute area some. Also another free activity is going to eat chocolate at theo chocolates in their tasting room/store. YUM! Seriously Seattle food is the best...down at the market...greek yogurt with toppings, fresh raw oysters, fruit from a vendor...also if you get a chance check out Homegrown...such a yummy sandwhich/soup type shop. If you can't tell I could happily just eat my way around seattle and surrounding areas.
Sorry about the dental issues and engine light Hopefully the engine light thing is something small like the gas cap not being on tight enough.
