What my pregnant self is eating 4/6

Re: What my pregnant self is eating 4/6

  • Giving up carbs sounds terrible.  I am always hungry and I always want bread!  Yesterday I had pizza for breakfast and today I had a bagel.  No shame.

My husband is a bit of a health nut, and while I usually eat pretty healthy I definitely make exceptions (see above!), but he's obsessed with the little poppyseed getting enough of veggies so I agreed to a little green juice every morning, at least until it makes me throw up.

  • Nothing much has changed for my diet, but then I'm not having food aversion yet. In the past some time around week 6 I got hit with devastating all day nausea... eating anything becomes nearly impossible.. if I remember correctly I was living on rice and ensure... hoping that's not happening again, but at any rate, probably much of what I could/would crave would be off limits as I'm on a very specialized diet. I have celiacs (so gluten free) and I have food sensitivities (not allergies) and I am currently on the reintroduction phase of the paleo aip (autoimmune protocol)  diet... not really feeling like I want to do much experimenting while newly preggers so I'll stick to my normal diet as long as my body lets me. :)  as long as this preg is sticky I'll deal with any measure of unsatisfied cravings... or more likely i'll make a substitute :)

    @drablnd CHIPOTLE!!! Yes, must have.

@ameliabedelia-2  Asian food is my thing. My DH side eyes me because I am always saying, "how about takeout?!"

So, I have A LOT of dietary restrictions.  I am vegan and gluten free. I also have really bad IB which has been exacerbated with this pregnancy.  Some of the strangest things will upset my stomach like chickpeas?!   So unfortunately everything I am craving upsets my stomach.  I want thai curry coconut soup all day everyday. But alas that would be a death sentence.  So I have been eating a lot of cukes and spinach on gluten free toast. SO boring.  I have an appointment with my OB today and she is going to set me up with a nutritionist to help me out.

@justsuzie I have a ton of restrictions as well... its all good till the nausea hits! :)
  • @CandyApple2012 I've struggled with dehydration since I was a baby. I had so much amniotic fluid with DS (the RN actually said "gross" when she examined me, and the OB had to jump out of the way during one of the pushes lol), and I think it was my body's way of making sure DS had the fluid he needed. I went in to L&D at one point during T2 because I had nonstop BH. I was just really dehydrated, so I had to have a bag  or two of fluid. I've already asked one person to constantly remind me to drink fluids!

@kvacmak Amen! I feel at my best on a high carb/low protein diet and recently read that it's helpful in keeping depression at bay, since it releases more feel-good brain hormones!

  • @pandawares when the doc broke my water the nurse gave up trying to clean the bed up for 30 min because it wouldn't stop and she told me that was the most she's seen in a very long time lol so I feel ya there

  • @kvacmak  In the beginning of this post I said that I had early onset gestational diabetes in my last pregnancy.  I am doing it for the health of my baby so to have you call me out for it as a negative sounds pretty rude.  Obviously my LO is my primary concern, of course I want carbs. With GD, I would have to eat low carb (not by choice), and I have a very high chance of having it again because I was diagnosed at 12 weeks last time.
  • Jlemons (can't tag on my shitty work computer) I'm sorry if I came across as blaming you. I didn't register that it was you both times that posted about low carb. That makes sense, sorry if I didn't have half a brain currently I would have totally not even said anything. I am totally in the wrong and you have every reason to want to eat low carb for the health of yourself and your baby.
I'll be honest I am super sensitive to people talking about 'dieting' so to speak and I guess it just triggered me a bit, since diet culture is SO prevalent and targets pregnant/postpartum women SO aggressively, and I am really hoping this board builds on the culture of eating intuitively/for health. You obviously have a known medical indication, so again, I am so sorry.
I had no intention of 'calling you out' and apologize for coming across that way. I hope we can still be friends

  • I'm only like 2 seconds pregnant (4w4d). I have lost 42lbs since January. I'm having a HARD time thinking about eating whatever I (baby) wants. I have been so strict. This is weird and I will get over it.

  • I basically want anything fried, but I'm eating my toddler's snacks. Annie's honey bunny grahams anyone?
  • @jlemons-2 I'm sorry if my comment seemed like an attack, as well. GD and D in general are a constant concern of mine, as my brother and sister both have T1. I become a bit too defensive of my diet any time someone so much as mentions the word "carb."

  • @jlemons-2 GD mama here too... Have you heard of Halo Top ice cream? Absolutely delicious, high protein, low sugar, low fat, low calorie. Didn't mess with my numbers at all!

  • @vvitchhazel I love halo top ice cream!  I wish it wasn't so expensive.
  • Baked sweet potato fries for dinner!  And I am baking scones right now! CARBS
  • I'm so jealous of everyone wanting to eat! I don't want to eat anything really and when I force myself to I feel kind of queasy and the heartburn starts. Oh well, I'll live vicariously through y'all

@pandawares - love it. I ate vanilla ice cream almost every night when pregnant with DD...I've already started again.  Not good!  But I look at it as a replacement for my glass of red wine ;)
  • @pandawares No worries, I just didn't want anyone to think I was being irresponsible regarding my LO!

@vvitchhazel I have seen Halo Top but never actually looked at it.  I will check it out for sure!
