Mack or Maverick or both?

What do you think of the names Mack and Maverick? What about Maverick with the nickname Mack? I personally like both names so all thoughts (and other name suggestions) are welcome

I love love love Maverick. I wouldn't use Mack as a stand alone but as a Nick name for Maverick I don't mind it. I also like Mav, or Rick as Nick names.

Meh. Mack is okay as a nn but doesn't make a strong given name, and I just personally can't stand Maverick. It's a very showy name, l put it on par with naming your kid Prince or Awesome. And nothing is sadder then an average person named Prince.

Eta: forgot suggestions . Most of these you can use the nn Mack.

I find Mack pretty nicknamey as a given I like something like Cormac nn Mac/Mack.

Maverick I just can't get behind it. It takes a very certain personality to carry a name like Maverick your entire life. Plus I think of Sara Palin and that is one of the worst associations IMO

I'm not into Maberick. I think Mack is too nicknamey as a full name. I'm with pps: I prefer Cormac nn Mac. I also like Malcolm, but Mac as ann might be a stretch.

I like Maverick a lot, nn Mack. I dont like Mack as a given name, but I grew up with a Mac and it fit him quite well.

I mean a maverick is an noncomformist, or someone who refuses to follow the rules, its also is a term for an unbranded calf , then tie in the basketball team association and Top Gun reference it's just a lot

It got a lot of play during the 08 election with branding Sarah Palin as a "Maverick" for being an unpolished turd, I mean politician. Before that referring to a person as a maverick had a relatively positive connotation as someone who was genereally successful without being conventional.

And

while the original definition of an unbranded calf or yearling isn't flashy, it is pretty fucking weird for a kid.

I think of Maverick as a showy, slightly obnoxious name. I associate it with Palin, too, and just the "I'm a trailblazer" thing is annoying.

This. I like Mack as a nn more than a stand-alone name. The suggestion of Cormack nn Mack is my favorite.

“Bringmemylongswordho”: I have a Maverick. It’s obvious to anyone reading that the reason you hate the name so vehemently is because you’re a leftist. The only thing that’s “a lot” here is you. As old as this thread is, I had to reply because you’re so gross in your responses. I’m no Palin fan. But for the love of God, you’re just so negative about a name that you could have simply just dismissed as not your taste, and then moved on. Instead you just berated the thing to death. Instead, your vote equates to sexualizing little kids. THAT’S “f***ing weird.” As you know, the name means ‘nonconformist,’ which happens to be something we‘re sorely lacking in this dumpster fire of a world, thanks to your sort of ideology.
