Re: Weekly Fitness Check-in: April 10

  • Current stats if you'd like to share!  (Usually starting weight, current weight and TTC goal weight.) I have lost about 30 pounds since last summer and am mostly concerned about maintaining current weight. I wouldn't be sad to lose 5 more though.
Fitness game plan for this week: I got my first run of the week in yesterday. I need two more by Saturday. Likely tomorrow and Thursday or Friday.
Did you meet last week's goals?
Yes! I posted last week that my goal was to get back to 4+ miles and the very next run I did it! I was able to get a full 4 last night as well. I'm pretty happy with that!
Fitness goal for this month: Work on my time and/or adding distance. I'd love to run a 10k (6.2) but am not quite there yet.
Anything else you want to share about your fitness plans/journey?  Any rants or raves?  Frustrations?
I'm pretty happy where I am right now. I just need to keep it up.

GTKY: Tell us something about you that we don't already know! I think belly buttons are the grossest thing ever.

Back on the weighing in now!  I lost a pound, finally!
SW: 215 CW: 198 TTC Goal Weight/Pre Pregnancy weight: 185  Ideal goal weight: 150-160
Just 13 pounds to my TTC goal!

Fitness game plan for this week: My autoimmune flare up is still ongoing, so I'm having to continue taking it easy.  I did strength training this morning and had a bad reaction to it, so I'm probably going to just walk this week, 30 min a day and focus on being really strict calorie counting wise.  I'm starting to keep track of days I calorie count on my calendar.  Days under 1500 get a black check mark and days under 1350 get a red check mark.  If I get 15 this month I'm going to give myself some kind of a reward.

Did you meet last week's goals?
I think my goals were mostly to rest until I felt better and calorie count.  I did great with resting (haha) and I did okay with calorie counting.  I did fine until the weekend.

    Fitness goal for this month:
I am desperately hoping to lose 5 pounds.  One down already, so four to go!  Super doable!

Anything else you want to share about your fitness plans/journey?  Any rants or raves?  Frustrations?
It's just super annoying to have fitness goals and have to factor in my autoimmune disease.  Whether it's changing medication or dealing with inflammation flare ups, it makes everything so much harder.  But, I DO know that regardless of my autoimmune disease, I have control over calorie counting and eating healthy, so I should focus on that and not the things that are outside my control.

GTKY: Tell us something about you that we don't already know!
I once hiked by myself for about 80 miles in rural France and Spain!  It's so funny because, at the time, I felt like it was a failure because I didn't complete my original, very ambitious plan (500 miles!) but in retrospect it's like uh, hey, hiking 80 miles alone in the Pyranees is pretty cool!  I got to see wild horses and a mountain goat (and I also got hailed on and fell in a mudslide and got a bunch of blood blisters, lol.)  It was an adventure!
  • Random update: one good way to stay on your diet is for your work building to be filled with a mysterious mold/sewage smell.  BLEH.  They're trying to figure it out (they think something in the vents?) but um, wow, I have never been so good about not snacking!  Because I feel like I want to puke!  Lol.
  • @nothefather - Yay! For getting your first run of the week done :)
@maureenmce - I am sorry you are having such a hard time with your autoimmune disease. I hope it calms down soon.

Current stats if you'd like to share!  (Usually starting weight, current weight and TTC goal weight.) I started at 176 and I am currently at 169. I lost a pound last week :)
Fitness game plan for this week: I had over 9,000 steps today at school alone - it was a busy day! I am not doing well with getting my workouts in. I am so tired when I get home, have stuff with the kids, or grad school homework always gets in the way so this week I am focusing on eating better. Today I did well! I managed to say no twice to junk food that was around school, which normally I always say yes.
Did you meet last week's goals?
No :( See above - so hard to fit everything in.
Fitness goal for this month: Watch better what I am eating and fit work outs in where I can.
Anything else you want to share about your fitness plans/journey?  Any rants or raves?  Frustrations?
I just wish it was easier to lose the weight.

GTKY: Tell us something about you that we don't already know! I love Monarch butterflies. I raise and release them :) Last year I raised and released about 75.
  • @glitzandglitter I totally feel you on having a hard time getting work outs in. Congrats on being able to say no to junk food! That's big!

Current stats if you'd like to share!  At the beginning of this year I was at 218 and I am now down to 207. My ultimate goal is 135, but my TTC goal is somewhere between 150 and 170.
Fitness game plan for this week: My plan is to continue with our daily dog walk/jogs and do strength training 2-3 times.
Did you meet last week's goals?
Even though I wasn't on the board last week, I did meet my own personal goals.
Fitness goal for this month: Lose 5-8 lbs
Anything else you want to share about your fitness plans/journey?  Any rants or raves?  Frustrations?
It is hard for me to resist temptation! But I am doing better.

GTKY: Tell us something about you that we don't already know! DH and I eat Paleo (most of the time) and this has really helped me feel better and lose weight.
  • @notthefather I'm so jealous of your consistent running! That's awesome!

@maureenmce congrats on the loss! I like calorie counting too, it helps me sooo much! Also- ummm gross about your building?! How are they still letting everyone work in there???

@glitzandglitter congrats on your loss! You ladies are on a roll! Monarch butterflies, how cool! I've never known anyone that does that!

@sramiller1008 welcome to the fitness check! Great job meeting your goals from last week!

Current stats if you'd like to share!  (Usually starting weight, current weight and TTC goal weight.) SW: 135 CW: 135 GW: 128ish
Fitness game plan for this week: don't go more than 2 days without working out. That seems to be my point of no return.
Did you meet last week's goals? My goal was to workout ONCE last week and I just did it an hour ago. Does that count?
Fitness goal for this month: I would LOVE to lose a pound a week. Ready, set, MAGIC!
Anything else you want to share about your fitness plans/journey?  Any rants or raves?  Frustrations? I'm doing a REALLY good job maintaining my current weight, LOL. too bad I'd really like to lose weight! I feel so bloated and gross.

GTKY: Tell us something about you that we don't already know! I'm terrible at coming up with things for getting to know you questions.
  • @maureenmce: Yay!! Congratulations on the weight loss! You're so close to your goal! Not sure how to feel for you on the putrid smell... haha! Your trip sounds amazing! Holy cow, 500 miles is pretty hefty. I would love to hear more about your trip some time! It sounds incredible.
@glitzandglitter: Yay to you, too!! This is so exciting to see you both make progress! 9,000 steps is a lot! I get that many on my running days so that's not anything to turn your nose up to. That's really neat that you raise butterflies. My daughter's class did it last year and it was really cool. She loved it!
@sramiller1008: You've made a lot of progress so far this year. That's amazing! I'm intrigued by a Paleo diet but I hate cooking!
@UterusesBeforeDuderuses: It totally counts. Sunday was last week  ;) I'm with you on the two day max. I try to space my runs 1 day, 1 day, 2 days. If I go more than 2 days it tends to turn into 4-5 days.

It sounds like it's been a great week for the BOTB crew! Way to go everyone!

Got another workout in today. Feeling fairly sore from yesterday so I'm sure tomorrow will be roughhhhhh! 2 days in a row! Woo! We'll just ignore the cookies and peanut butter cups that have been consumed today  ;)

How is everyone else doing today?
  • @UterusesBeforeDuderuses- that's awesome!

I'm doing well with food choices this week. I turned down junk at work 2 days in a row and I got 8,556 steps at work today :)
  • Way to go @UterusesBeforeDuderuses and @glitzandglitter

I logged my second run this week tonight. It sucked a lot but I did it  :)

@notthefather Thanks!  I'm happy to have progress, even if it's slow.  As for you, that's so great that you've lost 30 pounds and are back up to 4 miles!  It's been SO long since I've been running, but once I'm down around 170 or so, I'd love to get back into it.  Great job!

@glitzandglitter: Great job on all the steps and food choices!  And holy cow, it is SO cool that you raise butterflies!  I'm intrigued!  Is it difficult to do?  Does it require a lot of space?

@sramiller1008: Great job on your progress!  We're in kind of similar places, weight and goal wise!  I've been meaning to get back on Paleo because I feel better when I'm on it (I think it's easier for my body/autoimmune disease.)  I'm thinking of doing a whole 30 from mid April to mid May - do you have any favorite recipes?

@UterusesBeforeDuderuses: It totally counts!  Good job!
  • @UterusesBeforeDuderuses Thanks! Nice job on your workouts!
@notthefather Thanks! I love eating Paleo but yes, it is a lot of cooking. I understand it would be hard if you didn't like cooking!
@maureenmce Yes my body definitely feels better when I'm eating Paleo. Even if I am not losing weight as quickly, it's nice to just "feel" healthy. I'm sorry you're having problems with your autoimmune condition- hopefully it will get better for you soon! As far as Paleo recipes- I have many favorites and Pinterest is my go-to when it comes to finding recipes. A few I really like are sweet and spicy tilapia, turkey/egg skillet (just ground turkey, eggs, and salsa!), pulled pork stuffed sweet potatoes, and Paleo cinnamon toast crunch. The last one is a bit more work but it is worth it because the cereal is so delicious! DH loves cereal and often misses it since it's not Paleo, so I found this recipe and he loves it. Good luck if you decide to do Whole 30!
  • Does anyone use a fitbit? I get a really good discount through work and decided to go ahead and try one out. I planned to get the Alta HR because I like the way it looks but then decided that the Charge 2 may be a better choice because of features. Unfortunately I forgot to update my cart  to the Charge 2 and ordered the Alta on accident. By the time I realized what I did it was too late to cancel so I ordered the other one as well and will return which ever I don't want.

  • @notthefather - I have the charge 2 and I love it :)
  • Charge 2 here! Love it!
  • I have the Charge HR and I love it! The only complaint I have is that the band is starting to fall apart, but I've had for over a year and use it almost every day. I have a warranty, so I'll be looking in to see about getting it fixed.
  • @sramiller1008 - My DH and I had the same problem. We contacted FitBit and they mailed us new ones. We were very happy for a while but the new bands eventually started doing the same thing :( by that time they were not under warranty any more. I contacted them anyways and they gave me a coupon towards another one. This time I got the Charge 2 because you could change the bands - I am thinking now if I have a problem they can just send me a new band if it is under warranty or if it's not the bands aren't that expensive so I can just buy a new band instead of a whole new FitBit.
  • Thank you all! I'm excited to get mine! I've been using the Fitbit app but it requires me to have my phone on me all the time.

  • @glitzandglitter Thanks for sharing! I looked up and my one-year warranty is already expired, but I bought an extended one through a different company (the ones that Amazon tries to sell you when you buy expensive stuff) so I'm going to see about going through them. I like your idea of getting the one that has replaceable bands. I might just try that next time I'm in the market for a new FitBit. :)
  • @sramiller1008- if your other warranty doesn't work I'd contact Fitbit still. They wouldn't replace mine but I still got a discount for my new one :)
