Re: Weekly Chat - April 9

  • Anything you are looking forward to this week?
Not really. I think it is jus going to be a typical week. I just am ready for summer break so if we could just skip to that... :)
    Dreading?
I really need to get some cleaning around the house and homework done :/
Anything else that you would like to add?
**TW** Babies mentioned - Not sure if we need that here but I thought better safe than not - my SIL had her baby today. I don't live close enough to be there but they are texting me pictures and she is a cutie! So not helping with the baby fever though.
GTKY: What is your favorite breakfast food?
I love hash brown casserole, grits and bacon - Yum!

@glitzandglitter - Congrats on becoming an aunt!

Anything you are looking forward to this week? I'm looking forward to Friday! It's a long weekend, and I have a hair appointment on Saturday.

Dreading? This week will probably drag on due to the lack of work that needs to get done.

Anything else that you would like to add? Not at the moment.

GTKY: What is your favorite breakfast food? A plain bagel with cream cheese. Or a cheese danish if I need a little pick me up.

    *Edit due to formatting*
  • @chloandcoco - I hope the week goes by quickly for both of us :)
  • Anything you are looking forward to this week? Not really, no. I tried a new recipe tonight for dinner, so we'll see how it goes.

Dreading? I've had a visit from AF and my cramps are absolutely horrible. Combine that with my constant lower back pain and you have a very miserable me. So I guess I'm dreading this continuing.

Anything else that you would like to add? Not really. Still waiting to hear from HR about them finding me a new position. Hopefully soon. Oh, and we did our taxes. I found out that HR Block doesn't charge to e-file if you make less than $63k. So instead of having to buy a program, we just did that.

GTKY: What is your favorite breakfast food? I really like egg in a basket. Besides that, I also like pancakes and french toast! DH likes omelets.

  • @glitzandglitter Congrats on becoming an aunt! Seeing the new baby pictures definitely doesn't help the baby fever, which I totally understand. A couple friends of ours had a baby a couple weeks ago and we got to spend some time with them a day or two after they came home from the hospital. And my sister is pregnant, due in June. Another friend of mine is pregnant and is actually eight days late. None of this is helping, lol.
@ChloandCoco What are you having done to your hair? That sounds fun!

  • @glitzandglitter congrats Auntie! I need to do sooo much cleaning too!

@ChloandCoco let's hope this week doesn't drag! Fingers crossed for all of us!

@dreamscapes_ yay for free efiling! The cost to file taxes makes me so mad. Also man you have a lot of preggers in your life! Definitely rough on the baby fever!

Anything you are looking forward to this week? This is dumb but I just ordered some Lipsense that I'm excited to try! Hopefully I will get it this week, but it might be next week.

Dreading? Work will most certainly be busy. But nothing too dread worthy this week!

Anything else that you would like to add? This weekend went by way too fast!

GTKY: What is your favorite breakfast food? French toast!!

@glitzandglitter: Congratulations! Hopefully you'll get a lot of good snuggles in soon!
The start of a new week means you're getting closer to summer break! Hang in there!
@ChloandCoco: Do you have Breuggers Bagels in your area? We have them here and the sun dried tomato is so yummy! Hope your week goes by quickly.
@dreamscapes_ : let us know how the recipe turns out! I'm sorry you aren't feeling well  :(  you have enough going on and deserve a pass! We used Credit Karma tax this year because it was free for anyone. I tested it against turbo tax and it was really close.
@UterusesBeforeDuderuses : not dumb at all! I hate lipstick but like a little lip color. Let me know what you think! I've considered trying it before too.

Anything you are looking forward to this week? Easter! I love getting together with my family.

    Dreading?
Nothing specific. Just the usual grind. We had a busy weekend and could use an extra day to relax and get housework done.

Anything else that you would like to add? My daughter's school is closed Friday and I'm debating using it as en excuse to take a day off work. My mom could probably keep her but I haven't decided if I'm even going to ask.

I'm also excited to watch the Casey Anthony special on ID tonight!

GTKY: What is your favorite breakfast food?  All the things!! My favorite is biscuit and gravy (McDonalds is shamefully my favorite) or chocolate gravy on biscuits with bacon. However, I typically eat peanut butter rolled up in a tortilla or on an apple. Womp, womp, woooomp.

  • @notthefather I'll definitely let you know what I think! What is chocolate gravy???
  • @glitzandglitter, congratulations! what did they name her? (No big deal if you can't say). Is it just me or are there TONS of people pregnant?!

@notthefather, I also need to know what chocolate gravy is! I'm up for anything that allows me to eat chocolate at breakfast!

Anything you are looking forward to this week? It looks like the weather is going to be beautiful this week. I love spring!

Dreading? Last week was spring break, so I'm dreading the alarm going off in the morning and getting back into the swing of things.

Anything else that you would like to add? My dogs had surgery Wednesday and I think they're recovered! I let them sleep in bed with me... don't think DH appreciated it. I'm glad they're feeling better though.

GTKY: What is your favorite breakfast food? Waffles... I don't eat them often but yum!

  • @UterusesBeforeDuderuses and @JNCPro3130 : it's amazing. Coco, sugar, milk/water, flour, vanilla brought to a boil and allowed to thicken. I think it's a southern thing. My MIL introduced me to it and she makes it every time we go to visit. I gain like 5 pounds. Haha.

JNC: glad your puppies are doing better! I imagine that was super stressful. I'm so glad spring is here too! Hope your first day back tomorrow goes smoothly. It's so hard to get back into the swing of things after a long break.

  • @glitzandglitter congrats on the new niece!!

@notthefather that sounds like my kind of gravy!! Haha

Looking foward to nice weather. And Easter!!

Dreading DH starting his overnight inspections this week for work. Two nights alone with my one year old. Dinner may be rough, but mornings are usually just the two of us, so no problems there.

    Nothing else to add.

GTKY: scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, and crepes filled with fruit

  • @UterusesBeforeDuderuses I know, right? We HAVE to do it, we're legally obligated to do it, and in order to do it properly, we have to pay out the butt? Bleh on that. I'm just glad we didn't buy the program when we were originally going to. And yes, lots of incubation going on in my life. There were also three or four people at work who were pregnant (one had her baby just before I went on leave, another had hers three weeks ago, and I'm not sure about the others). SO MANY BABIES. Also, yay for French toast! I hope the Lipsense works well for you! I've never tried it, but some friends of mine have.

@notthefather DH said it tasted more like breakfast than dinner (it was chicken, bacon, potatoes, cheese, and seasonings baked together). I didn't have any at the time, since I wasn't hungry. I wish I could get a pass on feeling awful >.< We had originally filled ours out on Turbo Tax, but we didn't file because we didn't have the money to pay. There was no difference between it and H&R Block, thankfully. How was the Casey Anthony special? I'd take the day off to stay home with your daughter, lol. I looked up chocolate gravy, and it honestly just sounds like this chocolate whisky sauce I made at an old job.

@JNCPro313 I'm glad your dogs are doing well after surgery! Good luck going back to work tomorrow!

@CecilB93 I hope the evenings alone with your kid go well!

  • @glitzandglitter - Me too!

@dreamscapes_ - How did the new recipe go? Did you like it? I'm just getting a haircut, probably a long bob cut. I have really thick hair so in the spring I usually cut 3-4 inches off.

@UterusesBeforeDuderuses - I get really excited about new makeup products too!

@notthefather - I live in Canada and I've never heard of Breuggers Bagels. But I'm going to the States in 3 weeks so I'll keep an eye out for them. And you should take the day off work to have a girls day with your DD.

@JNCPro3130 - I hope your week back to work goes smoothly and yay for your dogs feeling better!

@CecilB93 - Good luck with your dinners this week, you could always have breakfast for dinner.
  • @dreamscapes_ I am surrounded by pregnant people. At work alone there are 2 pregnant and 3 that have just had babies.
@Jncpro3130 - That first alarm is always the worst :( I hope Monday was kind to you.
  • @glitzandglitter I love the hash brown casserole from Cracker Barrel!
@dreamscapes_ I love trying to new recipes! What did you try? Hope it worked for you!
@JNCPro3130 Coming back from Spring Break is really tough. Definitely not my favorite part of the year. Glad your doggies are better! Mine always love sleeping with us but DH is the same as yours lol!

Anything you are looking forward to this week? Just the weekend. We are working on packing up some stuff for our move in May and I love packing and getting rid of old junk.

Dreading? My school is having an Open House this week and there is just a lot of work required in preparing my classroom and gathering, organizing, and displaying work and projects from the school year. I'll be glad when it's over!

Anything else that you would like to add? Not really. Glad to be here and getting involved on the boards.

GTKY: What is your favorite breakfast food? I love breakfast food and don't think I can pick a fave...probably pancakes or waffles.
  • @sramiller1008 - Ugh! Open houses are a pain! We thankfully only have them in the beginning of the year.
  • @ChloandCoco DH liked it! I think I could have done without the olive oil (it made it way too wet), but it was good. Totally understandable that you'd do a cut like that in the spring with thick hair. My hair's below my shoulder blades right now and I'm thinking of cutting it short. Just not sure.

@glitzandglitter Isn't it fun? It definitely messes with my baby fever. My friend whose baby decided it needed a few more days of baking time was induced today, so her little girl was born around noon :) She was ten and a half pounds! I haven't seen pictures yet, but she's only nine hours old, lol.

@sramiller1008 It was this chicken/bacon/potato/cheese bake thing I found on Pinterest. The recipe said to toss the chicken and potatoes in olive oil with assorted seasonings, but I honestly think I could have left the oil out. Aside from that, it was good! Hopefully the open house goes well!

  • Just checking on you @livingthedream and @easttxmamas! Haven't seen either of you around for a while. Hope all is okay!

  • @uterusesbeforeduderuses - i hate waiting for new products to arrive in the mail! I want them ASAP to play with!

@notthefather - my son's daycare is closed Friday and Monday and I'm using it as an excuse to take a long weekend :) doooo ittttt.

@stramiller1008 - are you moving far? i hope it goes well for you!

Anything you are looking forward to this week? - Easter weekend and traveling with my folks! Should be fun, hopefully the weather is nice.

Dreading? Dealing with all the pre-travel prep. Washing the clothes, packing, organizing, etc.

Anything else that you would like to add? I'm new here! I hope you like me!

GTKY: What is your favorite breakfast food? Oh gosh, all the breakfast!! I'm going to go with eggs benedict. I order it every time i'm at a restaurant. Every. Time.
  • @denimjeans: I ended up asking my mom if she could keep her but my mom is busy. Now I'm taking the day 100% guilt free! I think we may go to the zoo. I hope you enjoy your super long weekend!

@denimjeans - I HATE packing! I hope the weather is nice for you and that you have a great trip.
  • @ChloandCoco How are things going for you? Isn't April your month? Are you going to start TWW/WTO threads throughout the month? Do you want me to ask you more questions?  :D
  • FFTC: I tried a new sunless tanner tonight because I like to live dangerously like that. I may be wearing a turtle neck in 80* heat tomorrow  :D Wish me luck!

  • @UterusesBeforeDuderuses - haha!! April is my month! But we aren't pulling the goalie for another week, so I was going to start a TWW/WTO this coming Sunday. Is there anyone else who's trying in April? It would be kind of awkward to start a thread and for me to be the only contributor...
  • @notthefather fun! Let us know how it turns out!

@ChloandCoco I totally just saw your comment in the intro thread about this 1 minute ago, whoops! I do think you're the only one, so I wondered if you would want to do the thread if it is just you, lol. I mean we'll love tit the crap out of post though.....sooo whatever you want to do!

  • @UterusesBeforeDuderuses - I think I'll start it on the 17th and hopefully other women that are lurking will join in. And if I'm the only one that posted I'll wait until May 1st to post the next one.
  • @ChloandCoco Oh, I know. It's just a matter of finding a cut I like. I have a very round face, so I want something that will look nice, but isn't a lot of daily upkeep. I pretty much just throw it in a ponytail or clip and go.

@denimjeans Isn't pre-travel prep FUN? *end sarcasm mode* Welcome to the board! And eggs benedict is lovely when it's made well! I have a great recipe for it from school if you want :)

@notthefather Enjoy your day off! Good luck with the sunless tanner :D

DH was off work today, so we were originally going to go to the water park, but AF was still acting up, so that was out. My cramps were horrible this month, but it seems to be over. So we're going tomorrow. Should be fun! We spent today at home watching cheesy true crime shows on Netflix and working on a puzzle. All in all, it was a nice lazy day at home.

  • @notthefather - good luck with the sunless tanner

@ChloandCoco - I'm not ready to be at TWW/WTO but I would comment on them to keep you company:)

@dreamscapes_ I love lazy days at home. I hope you have fun at the water park today.
  • @glitzandglitter - Aww! Company would be nice :)
  • Just checking on you @livingthedream and @easttxmamas! Haven't seen either of you around for a while. Hope all is okay!
Thanks for checking in, and hope you are well. I have a crazy week. So so busy and just a lot going on. I've been peaking my head in once or twice a day, but hope to be back to chat more by next week. <3

@easttxmamas How are you? Don't you have follow up thyroid blood work soon?

  • @LivingTheDream: Totally understandable! Just wanted to check on you all creeper like.

  • Haha! Just kidding! The self tanner experiment actually turned out better than expected. I definitely need some practice to get the application just right but the color is pretty fantastic. Overall, I'd say it was a success.

  • @dreamscapes_  that sounds delicious!
@denimjeans Thanks! Yes we are moving back to our home state. And our new place is about 4.5 hours away from where we are now.
  • @ChloandCoco
I'll join in a WTP/TWW thread! We are not officially trying-trying but we are more NTNP, so I feel like I'm trying even though DH isn't... I'm basically like "oh honeeeeeyyyy... tonight? And tomorrow? And every night?!?!?!

I'm also not going to be temping/charting because I hated doing it the first go around and gave up because I never really trusted that my temperature was accurate. I'd fall asleep with it in my mouth or forget about it, or wiggle a lot, or didn't want to wake up for it, so i just gave up. So my WTO/TWW periods will be more of a guess based on cycle length than O date. I have a feeling you won't mind ;)

    @dreamscapes_
did you go to school for cooking?! That'd be cool! I normally order it because I'm too lazy to make it so every time I'm at a restaurant I'm all "I'm getting THAT" I've made it once or twice but my hollandaise sauce is always meh.

    @sramiller1008
    good luck with the move!!!

  • @denimjeans - Great! I won't be temping either, but I will be using OPKs to narrow down when I ovulate.
  • @glitzandglitter We did have fun! We spent most of the day in the lazy river and wave pool, but we did go on their new water slide and one of our favorites. Normally we go on that one more than once, but my back couldn't handle it today.

@notthefather Glad to hear that your experiment was a success!

@denimjeans I did! For pastry, actually, but our first few classes were on the culinary side, so I learned how to do a lot of stuff there. Sauces and all that. I'll get the recipe to you once I find it :) I'm a bit wiped right now and don't really feel like digging through my giant stack of notebooks, lol.

  • @denimjeans - Here you go! This recipe will make about a pint of sauce, so if you want less, just reduce the recipe :) This is from my notes in class (and is already halved, as the one there was for 2 1/2 pounds of butter).

    1 3/4lb butter
    6 egg yolks
    1oz water
    1 1/2 oz lemon juice
    Salt to taste

    1. Melt the butter. (My textbook says to clarify it, but I don't think that's necessary)
    2. Put the yolks in a heat-proof bowl and whip them with a whisk to aerate them. Slowly add the water to help them foam up. They're ready when they've tripled in volume and are a pale yellow color.
    3. Put about 1-2" of water in a pot and bring it to a light simmer. NOT a boil. Hold the bowl of foamy eggs over the water bath and continue to beat until they're thickened and creamy. If any egg gets onto the sides of the bowl, do NOT scrape it in, since they usually end up scrambled and that can break the sauce.
    4. Remove the bowl from the heat and use a ladle to slowly whip in the warm butter. Go very slowly, as you'll break the sauce if it's added too fast. Taste the sauce as you go, because you might not use that entire amount of butter.
    5. When the butter is completely added, add in lemon juice and salt to taste. If it tastes too eggy, add a little more butter.
It takes a little trial and error to get it right, but it's a really tasty sauce.

  • Super late to this thread but it's been kind of a weird week!

@ChloandCocoI'm jealous that, a) your hair is thick (mine is fine enough that I am seeing bald spots at the moment) and b) you get to pull the goalie in April!

@dreamscapes_ , that recipe looks good.

@notthefather that oompah loompah is me in high school after I tried to self-tan and do lemon juice in my hair during spring break.  Michigan kids gotta do what they gotta do, though!

I turned 34 on the 9th and feel slightly OLD but whatever.  Life is good.
