@BlackNYellow We bought our crib and dresser from BRU while they were on sale. you get something like 10% back for items purchased off your registry to use after baby is born, including on purchases you make off of your own registry. The travel system stroller and extra car seat base we wanted were 25%+ off on Amazon (lightning deal for 4 hours), too, so I also already bought that. FTM but we aren't doing a shower so I was okay getting a few of the essentials knowing there's enough left on there for family to buy us. I've bought a few other things like onesies, washcloths, bathtub, swaddles, etc. when they are on sale for more than the completion discounts I'll have, but these weren't technically "off of my registry," just trying to watch for deals and spread out the spending.
@smallbutmighty77 I just recently booked mine. Most I looked at only took a few newborns each month so I felt like I had to pick. Not sure how common that is or if it's just a ploy to get you to book, but clearly it worked on me.
How far along are you? 20+2 Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? Not for a few weeks Cravings? Bloody Mary's. All of them. Rants/raves? Rant: My skin, still! It looks like it is sloughing off my forehead. I'm going to try Argan oil I think...no moisturizer is working and I've tried exfoliating. Questions for FTM, STM+? Not today GTKY: What's on your DVR right now? Currently in search of a new show to pick up. We don't have cable and rely on Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon to pick shows.
@smallbutmighty77 I booked mine last week. The photographer will come to our house which is so nice, and he's flexible during the week depending on when LO arrives. I wouldn't worry too much about rushing to book.. most photographers I talked to were able to work around my due date. Can't wait to see all the pics of the August babies!
Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? had the anatomy scan last week! It was so wonderful to see the baby and all the bones. Our ultrasound tech was amazing because she pointed everything out and gave descriptions of every different angle. We didn't want to find out the gender and she did an awesome job of keeping that a secret! DH tried so hard to watch as she was checking that part but he was like "I have no idea what I'm looking at" haha. Now the next appt isn't until an OB check up on April 27th!
Cravings? All the food!
Rants/raves? I think I'm feeling more movements because I'll feel this adjustment and then something pushing on my bladder haha still waiting for DH to be able to feel it from the outside!
Questions for FTM, STM+?
GTKY: What's on your DVR right now? We don't have cable
@littlebug2010 I'm glad you described the feelings as "rolls" because I always just feel like adjustments and shifts but I've never had the "flutters" that people talk about.
@mrsjpg1024 baby definitely pushes on my bladder still. It's super inconvenient walking around at work and feeling a movement and them immediately dropping what I'm doing to run to the bathroom haha
@JWatt5 I've been listening to all sorts of child birth podcasts about that stuff! It's nice and easy to put it on while going to and from work
@kvh22 I'm the same way with the meat right now! Nothing meat-related sounds good...which is toooootally opposite for my normal, non-pregnant self! Also, I've had red bumps on my chest and stomach for a few weeks. Mine are like large black heads almost. As if my skin has a bunch of extra stuff to flush out and it's just constantly irritated there.
@Kathryn0903 I wish that I never liked donuts... I think they're heavenly.
@BlackNYellow I bought stuff off my registry. For Amazon and BRU, you get completion discounts plus w/ BRU, the rewards. It's worthwhile to take advantage of that stuff.
@smallbutmighty77 girl me too! I'd be drunk in my apartment alone when I was single and that damn commercial would come on and I'd swear to God I'd save ALL the dogs once I got a yard. Pretty allergic to both cats and dogs suddenly though :-( I decided not to foster or rescue any more so we just have our one dog after our pit bull mix passed away in October. It was just so much work but if I had to choose between hanging out with a cat/dog or going to a party, I'd choose the furry company. Every time.
@LivLew so far I've tried out The Birthful Podcast and Fear Free Childbirth Podcast. There are so many options though! DH saw the Fear Free one and thought it said Fearful and was like "why are you listening to this???" Haha
Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? Nope! Thinking about calling the doc though - I've got some sinus infection/jaw pain/cold thing going on and apparently tea and Tylenol isn't cutting it.
Cravings? Food. Plus a milkshake habit.
Rants/raves? The rain today has made me feel much much sicker. I want hot drinks and a blanket in my office so I can think.
Buuuut I've felt baby move three of the past four days, so it seems LO is doing just fine on that milkshake diet. And I bought some more books (including the womanly art of breastfeeding) yesterday!
Questions for FTM, STM+? I feel like I did, but have forgotten. Will update later if I remember!
GTKY: What's on your DVR right now? We use streaming services - Outlander, the Americans, the Crown, Vikings - all shows we're part way through at the moment.
@lyse01 - I went by recommendation the first time and this time, I am using an old co-worker turned photographer. Do you use Facebook? I'd search there or use Google and look through their portfolio if they have one available. Facebook was great for me because they had reviews right there and albums posted--all in one spot. I liked the convenience of that. I dont think you even need a login to look that stuff up. Good luck!
@lyse01 I'd second the FB suggestion! It's really nice to look through albums specifically of newborn photography to get an idea if you like the style. We ended up booking the photographer who did our engagement photos, so that was easy. Not sure if that is an option for you - or ask around to friends/family members?
Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? none. I'm (im)patiently waiting for my AS next week.
Cravings? still nothing, surprisingly
Rants/raves? Feeling pretty nauseauted this morning...not a fan at alllll! I also decided that I REALLY need to get off my butt and at least start walking up and down my street daily. I've been so lazy this pregnancy!
Questions for FTM, STM+? nope
GTKY: What's on your DVR right now? We actually didn't go back with cable when we moved back into our house. But if I did still have a DVR, there would be Grey's Anatomy, Pretty Little Liars, and Modern Family!
@smallbutmighty77 I booked mine a couple months ago. I'm doing a "bump to smash" package which includes maternity pictures on a location of my choosing, newborn where she comes to my house, then 6 month and one year (cake smash) both at a location of my choosing. @lyse01 I googled newborn photographer then went to all their pages/Facebooks and looked through their albums. Narrowed it down to stlyes I like in my price range and emailed them. Ended up going with the one I felt seemed most our style through communication and her pics.
Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? None right now.
Cravings? Grapes. Fruit juice.
Rants/raves? Just felt the first big "kick" today. I've felt movement on occasion, but not like this... it was right after my morning snack and he was wiggling around a usual. I looked down and patted my belly, talking to him a little bit as usual. Then I felt it! Ka-pow! I SAW it too! I saw my belly move with it! I startled one of my co-workers when I shouted out in surprise. Made me super happy the rest of the day!
Questions for FTM, STM+? Any thoughts on planning ahead on clothing? Like how many of various items (onesies, socks, pants, etc.) to have? Trying to do my registry and take size and season into consideration too... I'm thinking I may just have to buy what I need as I go!
GTKY: What's on your DVR right now? I don't have DVR... I don't really watch TV. I am more into watching my favorite movies again and again.
@Feliciosity what I did and what I will continue to do is buy in the sizes baby will need at the end of whatever season when most stores discount their products. It's hard to tell shoe stuff though, so that I will usually wait for. That might help you!
*edit* I realize now thats totally not what you asked! Sorry!
As far as clothing, I planned ahead to get several 0-12 month onesies, socks, pants. Mostly the basics I liked to have at least 6 sets in from each size. I would wait to see what was on sale and buy accordingly based on what size baby would be once the season rolled back around. It was nice not to have to worry about buying new stuff when baby suddenly outgrew his clothes.
How far along are you? 20 weeks Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? A/S yesterday! I was expecting to be a lot more emotional/mystified... It was still really really cool to see baby, and especially neat to see the kicks and stretches, since I have anterior placenta and haven't felt much yet. Still team green. I don't know why I always pictured a lot more space in the uterus, but I was kind of shocked by how cramped it looked in there. Cravings? Sugar! Easter candy is my favorite (mini cadbury eggs, please) and the shop across the street from my work is all stocked up... I try not to keep any sweets in the house or I'm sure I'll plow through them. Rants/raves?
Questions for FTM, STM+? My mom and MIL will be doing a lot of childcare for us, should I buy/register for a pack n play/rock n play/tot dock for each of their houses, or just let them figure it out? They both live about 5 mins from me. GTKY: What's on your DVR right now? We only have Netflix, so on my list right now is 13 Reasons Why. It's super morbid but I read the book in middle school.
@dinofreak 13 Reasons Why- I didn't know it was a book! I just got sucked into that a few days ago. I'm only through 2 episodes and 20 minutes of the third. I'm anxious to sit and binge.
@dinofreak I think it depends on your MIL/Mom, and if they are likely to get it for themselves. Mine have already started prepping "baby space" in their homes. However, if they are going to be providing you free daycare, it may be good to do it for them. Are you doing a registry? Those would be good to add. Why not, right? That is something I have been told a lot is to never hesitate to put something on your registry. Someone may get if for you!
@dinofreak we got a PNP off of a neighborhood freebox. It doesn't have all the features, just the sleeping part and we plan to give that to my MIL/FIL. They will babysit, and we stay at their home overnight for x-mas and a few other holidays so we don't want to have to bring ours. Garage Sales, resale shops sometimes have them as well. We will soak/clean this one and be all set. My parents already got a play mat thing and bouncer, I didn't even have my own registry up yet.
