GTKY: Your Drink of Choice

What types of drinks do you like?  Are you a coffee fanatic, or is tea more your jam?  Wine or beer?  Or the pregnant version, water or...water?  Is there a drink that holds a special significance to you?  Do you have a regional or cultural drink that you love/hate?

Re: GTKY: Your Drink of Choice

  • Coffee. Give me all the coffee. Pre-pregnancy I had 2-3 cups a day. I cut it back to one cup a day.
Wine, but there are some beers I'd drink.
I drink a lot of water, too.
Cherry Coke is my go-to fountain drink when places have it. I love me some Cherry Coke.

I'm lame.  I'm a water drinker 99% of the time, pregnant or not.  I like sweet drinks, but usually only infrequently and in small quantities.

But I'm a super-sucker for these new computerized soda machines where you can select your soda/syrup combos.  Can't say no when I see one.

I'm not coffee drinker; I want to love tea, but anything with actual tea leaves in it makes me gag-- I can do some herbal/fruit teas.  Alcohol-wise I enjoy a glass or two of wine on occasion; I burned through my hard alcohol love during my bartender days.

  • I've been craving coffee ever since I got pregnant and never used to drink coffee (maybe 4-5 times socially?)

i LOVE matcha, milk and panela sugar (even some condensed milk) I think it's my top favourite drink.

    Fresh Apple Juice (second fav)
    fresh coconut water.

Out of all the soft drinks there's this bright green ice cream soda called Pakola (which is technically banned here because of its food coloring) that is my guilty pleasure. I love that.
  • I love coffee- I've always drank decaf (because I'm such a morning person nobody could be around me if I had regular coffee) so I have more cups daily than I care to admit.
I love wine, pretty sure merlot runs through my veins!
And for sodas I love Dr Pepper- I also loved Big Red as a kid but haven't had it since my last trip to TX like 10 years ago, but bubble gum soda sounds less than appealing now!
  • I am typically a beer girl.  I love Belgian style beers the best, but I have been getting more into IPAs.  This week DH and I went to dinner at one of our favorite local breweries.  He let me try his beer, and honestly it tasted like heaven compared to the cruddy ice tea I was drinking :s

Last fall, DH, my sister, my BIL, and I went to Kentucky and did the bourbon trail.  I was never a fan of bourbon, but I definitely appreciate it more now.  DH is really getting into it and will order straight bourbons at restaurants now (yuck).

I've never gotten into coffee.  The amount of caffeine in a cup of coffee does weird things to me.  I'd get heart palpitations and become REALLY jittery.  My sister tried to get me to drink this Ecuadorian tea called guayusa - it's a leaf with a naturally occurring high amount of caffeine.  I could not handle it haha.  I generally like most teas.  I have a nice little collection of loose leaf teas at work, but I don't drink them very often.

This pregnancy I have gotten into Topo Chico, a Mexican mineral water (shout out to @oheliza44 for the recommendation).  It's really refreshing over ice.  DH has even been drinking them, although he has access to actual alcoholic drinks lol.

  • 1. Captain and diet
    2. Diet Coke preferably fountain
    3. Vanilla sweet cream cold brew

Haven't had any of them (except a couple caffeine free diet cokes) since the BFP
  • @Xath DH and I LOOOOOVE coke freestyle machines!!  He gets so excited when we find them haha.

@BusyZee If you can believe it, I've never actually tried coconut water.  I love coconut, though, so I'm not sure why it's taken me so long to try it haha.  That cream soda sounds crazy.

@nktrodden826 I didn't know a bubblegum flavored soda existed.  That sounds....disgusting lol.  Put that up there with Peeps milk :p

  • I was never much of a coffee person, except ice coffee/lattes, don't like hot coffee. I love tea though.
Wine it is, mostly red wine.
I stopped drinking soda for the most part a few years ago, so I do think a lot of water or iced tea.
Buttttt when I'm not pregnant or nursing, my go to is definitely Johnnie Walker Black label on ice or with ginger ale.

I have a weakness for plain ol regular Coca Cola - cold out of a can preferably but I do get crazy and mix it up and a glass with ice or a fountain one can hit the spot.

My "nonpregnant" drink of choice is red bull and vodka. It does have a history of getting me in trouble but I get sooo sleepy when I drink any alcohol (wine, beer, liquor) so it helps keep me from calling it a night after 20 minutes. I do like trying different wines and beer but it knocks me out - and not in a I drank too much way, it's just how I handle alcohol I guess.
  • Give me all the coffee. I used to have about 2-3 cups a day pre-pregnancy. Now I can only have 1 due to heartburn.
I don't usually drink soda but during this pregnancy I give in to Coke. I went to the movies Monday and got a cherry coke! It was amazing
I love me some mixed drinks here and there. I prefer light beers and wine mostly mascato or a sweet red. I've never really explored more when it comes to wine.
I drink more water than anything now that I'm pregnant.
  • Im boring. I seriously drink water 99.8% of the time. Every once in awhile I'll have a milkshake or smoothie at a restaurant just for a special treat. And if I wake up with a super scratchy throat (allergies) I'll drink some juice in the morning to fix it. But that's it. Haven't drank soda since 6th grade (choice, I just didn't like it), I never liked milk as a drink (stopped that in 3rd grade) and am a vegan now anyways, hate coffee (although I love the ice cream version), and am not interested in alcohol.

I normally only ever drank 1 coffee a day but early on in the pregnancy I had an aversion so I switched to tea and have not drank a coffee since.  I absolutely love tea now.  I also drink a lot of apple juice.  As far as alcoholic beverages go, I'm a beer drinker 100%.  I don't really have a favourite as I like to try everything but I stay away from the typical domestic/imports (barf) and only drink micro-brews.  My more consistent beers when I just want to drink and not sip on new stuff are Shock Top (Belgian white) and Mill St Organic (lager) They are a little more common around here than smaller micro-brew companies but they're still delicious.  Oh and iced coffees in the summer are to die for!

Otherwise I drink water most of the time and pretty much never drink pop.

@SpongeWorthy are we the same person? Glad you are still enjoying your Topo Chicos! My grocery store finally restocked so I am back in business. ;)

I am a beer girl. I love the carbonation and nothing tastes better to me on a hot day. I love IPAs (although not the SUPER hoppy ones my DH prefers.) I am also outing myself as a basic b*tch that loves pumpkin beer in the fall. When I got my BFP I had to give away a fridge full of it. :(

DH and I went to South Africa on our honeymoon and there I fell in love with South African wine. We buy a couple cases every year and always split a bottle from the vineyard we stayed at on our anniversary or special occasion. In general, I love any bold red or crisp not super-oaky white.

For nonalcoholic drinks I stick mostly to water or mineral water. I am really caffeine sensitive so I don't drink a ton of coffee or tea.

    Edit to correct typo.
  • I'm a water drinker 99% of the time but I also love tea. I usually drink unsweet, but sometimes I'll get a little crazy and mix some sweet in.

Since being pregnant, I've been craving the burn of soda. I like that when I'm not feeling well in general, so I think that's why I want it during pregnancy. I've been trying to drink carbonated water instead but I've only been able to find the kind of aspartame in it and I know that's not great either. Anyone have suggestions for good carbonated water? I haven't looked around much. I had just bought some to try and realized later it had aspartame in it.
  • Coffee and wine are life. My 'going out' drink pre-pregnancy was vodka-tonic.

I also love a good vanilla coke. But not the canned kind, like from an ice cream shop where they actually add the vanilla syrup/flavor to the pop. Bonus points if it's Pepsi rather than Coca-Cola.

Target's house brand (drawing a blank on name) makes a good cucumber/mint carbonated water (basically off-brand la croix) that is delicious.

  • 1. All the coffee.

    2. I've recently become addicted to ginger ale.  It's pretty high in calories though (with lots of sugar) so I try to keep at as only a once a day "treat"

    3. Black iced tea with lemon

    4.  When it comes to booze I generally lean toward mixed drinks that cover the taste of the alcohol.   My favs are White Russians and lemon drops.   Yum

  • I love nothing more than a pitcher of berry sangria on a hot summers day!

Oh man, do I love beer. Even when I'm not pregnant I'm not a huge drinker but every once in a while beer hits. the. spot. I also savor my morning cup of coffee. Lately I've also taken up drinking La Croix as an alternative to soda.
  • I'm boring.  I like water, water with flavor packets, diet snapple, and arizona teas.

I don't really drink soda, but if I do, I love root beer, orange soda, and cherry coke.  They do make a cherry coke zero that is pretty good.

I don't drink a whole lot of alcohol either, but I'm a white wine girl.  I also love a good fruity drink like a strawberry and pineapple fruit slush from Sonic with Malibu in it.  Cherry vodka sours are my go to as well.  If I'm in the mood to get hammered (when not pregnant obviously) I'll stick to long islands.  I can't stand beer or how it smells.  It's kind of sad because it's way cheaper to be a beer drinker when you go out than an liquor drinker.  I can do the occasional Red's Apple Ale or the ones that are more cider and sweet, but I have never been able to develop a taste for beer.

  • Definitely a tea drinker over coffee - any and all kinds of tea. But I do enjoy a good cappuccino from time to time.

I used to love ginger beer (like ginger ale but spicier) but I drank a lot of it while I was sick during first tri, and now the smell makes me sick. So sad.

Alcohol-wise, I love stouts and sour beers and mostly drink microbrews or home brew (DH dabbles and we have talented and generous friends). I got really into bourbon and whiskey a few years ago and my go to drink is either an old fashioned or a manhattan. I used to drink a lot of wine when I lived in California, but it's so much more expensive on the east coast than it was out there.  Now, for the same price I can get a top rated beer or a mediocre wine, so I lean towards beer.  My wines of choice are pinot noir and meritage.

Lately, my go-to drinks are sparkling water (especially la croix), water, and milk. Because apparently pregnant me lives on the wild side  ;)

  • I get so sad when I hear about or see people drinking milk. I loooove milk and like to have a glass every morning but now it makes my stomach churn. For the first couple months, I could still tolerate it and would drink a glass before bed bc it helped keep me full overnight. But now it makes my stomach so upset but I want it sooo bad.
  • I'm an iced coffee girl. But all doctored up. I'm the annoying chick in the Starbucks line.

As as far as alcohol, if I'm home, a cold beer will do. If I'm out I want a Bloody Mary, extra spicy.

    And I hate water.

  • @ginger1228 Not to push the whole alternative milk things, but if you are interested there are about 8 different kinds of nut/other milks, all with their own flavor profile. Coconut, almond, oat, hemp, and cashew are the common ones. So Delicious is my favorite brand. I don't drink them straight, but I use them to cook and bake, and they get rave reviews from drinkers.

  • @ginger1228 I loveeee milk too but it just doesn't sit well with me, Iv been trying to reintroduce it back into my life so I have it once or twice a week now with digestive enzymes. I had a whole year with no dairy products and while my skin was great, I lost a bunch of very healthy hair. So i regret that decision very much. I know most people will disagree with me but that was the only diet change I made.

Last time I drank soda was two years ago, and I'm craving pakola(ice cream soda) ginger beer and Fanta like every other day ... it's messed up.

As as far as alcohol goes, I used to love whiskey, then hangovers started, wine on a nice day,etc But I avoid all that since I hate hangovers so I have water  ciroc , works best for me. I am looking fwd to some summer wine though pretty badly.

I'm glad you said that bc I've actually been meaning to try some with cereal and keep forgetting all about it! I miss my Raisin Bran.
  • I have never been able to drink milk straight unless it was chocolate or I was dipping cookies into it. I didn't figure out I was lactose intolerant until I was an adult. Every time I had milk it was...not good. Now I have lactose free milk with my cereal. I still don't like to drink it though...unless it's chocolate. :)

Pregnant me is almost 100% water and milk.  I've always been a fan of milk, just never drank it regularly with meals other than the occasional breakfast.  Pregnant me tries to drink it for breakfast and dinner almost every day.  Occasionally I'll water down some lemonade (regular lemonade is usually way too sweet for me) if I want something 'different'.

Pre-pregnant me was very good about water during the day but I'd usually have a Diet Coke with dinner.  I haven't 100% given that up, but it's much more a 'treat' now that it was.  We don't keep it in the house so occasionally I'll get a fountain one when out (which is the best kind anyway). Luckily I've never been a coffee drinker so I didn't have to give that up or limit it.

Alcohol wise I'm usually a beer drinker (I second whoever it was that said they love pumpkin beer and that was the only time I've really missed alcohol during this pregnancy).
  • Actually @SpongeWorthy I guess it's not bubble gum but it's THAT sweet that I'd call it that.. apparently it's red cream soda which sounds just as bad
  • Starbucks is my guilty pleasure - specifically iced caramel macchiatos. I would drink one every day if my budget allowed for it. I also love iced teas. Really, anything iced this pregnancy is my weakness. I am the weirdo at the Sbux drive-thru, ordering an iced drink while it's snowing.

I'm not a huge alcohol drinker, but when I am not pregnant I enjoy vodka iced teas and malibu rum with sprite.

No alcoholic beverages I'm pretty boring, cup or 2 of fresh coffee (I grind my own beans every morning) then water the rest of the day.

  • LOVE coffee!! I limit myself to one small cup every morning now being pregnant and also when nursing.
I drink water most of the time, but if I want something special I love Dr. Pepper.

If we're going out, my drink of choice is a Midori sour or something equally as sweet that I can't taste the alcohol in! :)

    and I HATE milk.
  • My drink of choice is a little tea with my sugar. I hate plain milk but I can drink chocolate milk.

Not pregnant drink of choice is hard to choose, I normally drink a crown and coke double. I love vodka, I saw peach vodka with lemonade is delicious. That will be my first drink PP.
  • I love Diet Coke. Pre-preganncy, I would drink a can a day (which is terrible, but I freaking LOVE that liquid poison)!

I also love coffee, I can drink it black, but prefer it with cream and Splenda. I have a heavy Starbucks addiction...

I've only recently (the past two years) begun to like wine. Usually I preferred mixed drinks, but I am happy drinking wine though I hate reds and only stick with whites.

  • I'm a hardcore seltzer drinker. I just like the carbonation...pregnant me loves fountain soda, non pregnant I don't drink soda.

Now onto booze.....my jam. My #1 is a really cold IPA. Or double IPA. The more hops the better. And Pinot Noir. I mostly stick to beer and wine aside from tequila.

  • Pretty much just water these days but non-pregnant me is all about Kona coffee and Kona beer.

I got pregnant this time pretty soon after moving to CA so I'm looking forward to sampling the local wine scene after this baby comes.

  • Coffee, black, the stronger the better.  I seriously like to chew my coffee. Water or fizzy water with lime if I'm feeling it. I don't drink milk 99% of the time, but do use it to make my oatmeal. Soda is very occasional and it's usually Root Beer, Ginger Ale or Sprite, unless I have a migraine and then I need a regular Coke,  no ice from McDonalds, nothing else will do.

I'm a beer girl and I love a hoppy IPA/Double IPA and prefer it over anything else.  Micro brews are life and I love trying new ones.  I have too many favorites.  When I have to 'drink like a lady', a well balanced red; Malbec or Merlot.  My favorite wine is Sofia Rose by Coppola Winery.  It's the perfect balance between a red and a white.  Vodka Tonic or Jameson Ginger are my go to mixed drinks but tend to get me in trouble so I have to limit myself.

  • Pregnant me is OBSESSED with lemonade. And lulo (a type of fruit) juice. I liked both these things before pregnancy, but didn't have them regularly. Now it's nearly a daily occurrence.

Non-pregnant me loves wine, champagne, margaritas, mojitos, rum punch, lattes, and iced coffee... Man all these things sound good. Decaf just doesn't have the same same taste. I've had a couple sips off my mom's latte, but man I'd love a whole venti to myself. I cut out caffeine in the first trimester with my mc history (I was willing to try anything) and have been kinda hesitant to add it back in. It's probably going to be needed with the lack of sleep.
  • Favorite caffeine: strong black tea with milk and sugar. I also drink coffee, and enjoy pretty much any sugary espresso drink. Not a fan of most herbal teas.

I love fountain coke... When we last lived overseas we couldn't get it anywhere, so I would always buy one at the airport upon arrival in the states. If I can find it, I'll mix half cherry coke and half regular coke, but I do not like the taste of the syrup from the fancy coke machines!

+1 for disliking the taste of beer. (I get a little annoyed when people say "well, you've just never had really good beer." False. I've tasted lots of good ones and they all taste like beer.) I prefer wine, mostly reds or non-oaky whites, and cider. I haven't really missed or wanted any type of alcohol during pregnancy, though. Maybe next time around when I have a toddler to deal with while pregnant.
  • @rjoys8 I don't like beer AT ALL, but il be honest, I recently had the nicest beer in Salt Lake City at a festival. But I still don't like drinking beer cos a) fills me up b) I like to get tipsy with the least amount of liquid possible lol
