Almost there, and nipple stimulation

I will be 36 weeks tomorrow and have been thinking of doing nipple stimulation again with this 3rd pregnancy.  I did nipple stimulation with my second baby for about 5 mins on a Monday night and the labor pains started on early Tues morning, my son was born by wed morning after a long 28hr labor.  All this when my doctor said at my apt that Monday that it didn't look like labor was going to happen at all that week and I was 39weeks at the time.

I plan to do nipple stimulation again once I reach 39 weeks with this one if labor doesn't start on its own like it did with my first pregnancy.

Has anyone else tried nipple stimulation and had success like myself?  I'd love to hear your story and how long your labor was.. congrats ladies!

Yes! I was 3 days overdue with DD2 and wanted to avoid induction. No progress- not dilated or effaced and she wasn't engaged. Monday night I went to chiro, put on my belly support brace and curb walked for an hour (evenly on each side) to help her engage and came home to roll on my Ball and do nipple stim. Surges began about 30 min in and I had her 5 hours later.

Well this is a board for people due in April, so most of us haven't given birth yet.

But based on my research, nipple stimulation is inadvisable. Causes more intense contractions.
    Not more intense than pitocin

  • thanks for sharing woodside!  I'm just curious about other women's stories.  Since I only did nipple stimulation for 5 mins..lol.  And I went into labor the next morning.  And my labor pains were not more intense like the other poster said, however they were more sporadic but not intense until my "active hardcore " labor phase...
  • Honestly I didn't find the surges and different or more or less intense than with my first birth which did not involve nipple stim. If I'm facing an induction I'll absolutely do nipple stim again this time.

  • @MWoodside I had never heard the curb walking one before, interesting. It helps them move lower? Seems like a good option to keep in mind!
  • Hmmm interesting tips! Thanks for sharing @MWoodside!

  • @ woodside, yep I second that, I haven't heard of that neither, if this labor coming up is anything like my second, I will try and remember to do that.
  • Walking up and down stairs can help as well with the same concept @MWoodside is suggesting. Neither were necessarily helpful for me but I'd definitely try them before being induced. Can't hurt!

  • @Magheeta, how far along are you?  when I did nipple stimulation with my second baby I was already 39 weeks, and my doc said it didn't look like baby was coming that week.. so I'm just wondering..  maybe there needs to be more factors involved for nipple stimulation to work??  just guessing..
  • You guys may very well know this, but it's s specific technique. https://m.newhealthadvisor.com/nipple-stimulation-induce-labor.html

  • @soon2bmomof3-2 - We've only been getting more serious in the last week or so, and I'm 39w1d today. I totally think my body just needs more time to do what it needs to. I'm just grumpy because, well, it's the end. :)

  • @ magheeta, your definitely almost there.  I have heard of using the breast pump, but if this ur first baby, I'd be careful using it cuz the pump can be quite painful at first...  I hope you have our baby soon!  Keep us posted!
