Re: Fit Mama Check-In: 3/27

  • 1: How many weeks or days left to go / weeks or days post-partum? 1 day to go!!!!!!! (hopefully!!)

2: What are your goals for the week ahead
? Have a baby!!!!! Keep doing yoga every day & using my exercise ball as much as possible and staying hydrated.

3: How was last week? One of the best, surprisingly. I did yoga every day and got a super long walk in on Sat. I keep thinking "ooo that's a sign labor is getting close!!!" whenever anything different happens. Like yesterday was the first time all pregnancy I've had diarrhea and then I had cramps throughout the night, so I'm getting my hopes up the end is approaching.

4: Any new challenges or needed modifications you want to share?
? Having to pee ALL the time.

5: How are/have you treated your self? Celebrate your body and its accomplishments
! Still on the frozen yogurt kick. I also bought some Easter candy yesterday that I'm sure DH & I will have finished by the end of this coming weekend. Can't resist the little cookies & cream flavored chocolate eggs!

    6:
Questions, Concerns, Rants, Raves, Randoms? I'm not sure if I lost my mucus plug or not so I'm guessing I haven't - and I haven't had a bloody show yet....I keep hoping/expecting them to happen. The waiting is getting hard for sure even though I know I could actually have another 2+ weeks left.

7: GTKY: Who is in your life (besides DH) that you hope has a big influence on your LO/LO's? Close family member, grandparent or friend that you admire who you most hope your littles will look up to or will impart their wisdom? Probably my mom most of all. She's just the best & I'd love for her to have a big influence. I feel bad that DH's mom is not going to because I feel like she'd also be someone I'd love to have a big influence, but hopefully her memory will still be able to after she passes. She's been hanging on these last few months and honestly I feel like the thought of getting to meet her first grandchild is what's giving her hope & propelling her desire to stay alive, but I know it's increasingly hard for her as she gets to the end of her disease (Huntington's) - she's so frail and can't really move or talk anymore so it's very sad but I'm grateful she'll hopefully get to meet him soon! They're both the strongest, most loving women I know and we're so fortunate to have them as our moms.

  • 1: How many weeks or days left to go / weeks or days post-partum? Tomorrow is 40 weeks! Unless things get moving today or tomorrow, I will be in L+D on Wednesday night to start the induction process.

2: What are your goals for the week ahead
    ? HAVE A BABY!!

3: How was last week? Pretty good all things considered. I actually wish I was more uncomfortable at this point. I'm sleeping well and staying active. I guess I should be thankful but I just want some contractions to start for real! I did 2 circuit workouts at home (easy stuff, squats, push-ups, light kettlebell and light jogging), 1 yoga video, and went for 3 walks. Yesterday I walked for about an hour and a half, DH drove by on his way to the hardware store and I convinced him to drive me home to pee and then drop me back off where I was, haha!!

4: Any new challenges or needed modifications you want to share?
? My back is starting to cramp up with the weight of my belly by the end of the day.

5: How are/have you treated your self? Celebrate your body and its accomplishments
! Ice cream! And sleeping in as much as possible.

    6:
Questions, Concerns, Rants, Raves, Randoms? I feel ilke LO is moving less the past few days. I'm not concerned to the point of calling, I do feel him just as much but his movements are smaller. I'm assuming it's because he's getting more cramped. He does do some big movements still, but more just rolling around instead of hard kicks. Did anyone else find this to be true as they got close?

7: GTKY: Who is in your life (besides DH) that you hope has a big influence on your LO/LO's? Close family member, grandparent or friend that you admire who you most hope your littles will look up to or will impart their wisdom? I would have to say my mom! My mom is such an example of strength and resilience, she raised my sister and I as a single parent and although she was very strict, we always had a good relationship with her because she respected our feelings, even as little kids. She gave up a lot to raise us, and pushed us to try our best in life and to not let anything or anyone stand in our way. I hope I will be half a great a mom as she is, and I know my little guy will learn a lot from my mom!
  • Chomping at the bit over here! 4 weeks PP. Feeling great but really want to rest so I don't hurt myself. I know my joints are still pretty loose. But it's tempting to put in a DVD and lift some hand weights. Might start something mild next week.

I just reserved a spot at my neighborhoods stroller strides for the week after my PP checkup! I'll be about 7 weeks PP. I've never done stroller strides so I'm really looking forward to trying something new and meeting local mom's!

I'm still about 10lb above my pre pregnancy weight and no clothes fit. Grr.
  • Hey guys- can I join this check in now? I'm 5 days post partum, so can't do much yet. Was wondering if anyone was planning any type of exercise before the 6 week mark? I like the Tracy Anderson work outs. Most of them don't use weights, and I was thinking about just doing the 7 minute arms workout. It's basically just like flailing your arms around.

  • Hi My Lovely Fit Mommas!!!!
    Continuing to think of you @jenny0228 & @serenity13 !!!

1: How many weeks or days left to go / weeks or days post-partum?
    12 days PP!

2: What are your goals for the week ahead
? I'm hoping to start getting in some daily walks this week. I feel totally fine but have been loving just hanging at home with Evie. But I need to start using my Moby & Lille carrier so I feel comfortable going out with it, and I think going for walks with Evie in them would be a good thing!

3: How was last week? It was challenging with getting used to Evie's schedule (non-schedule?!) for breastfeeding and sleep. Nights have been long and challenging at times.

4: Any new challenges or needed modifications you want to share?
? Body feels great! No issues with recovery at all. Just going through the breastfeeding aches and pains but my nipples are starting to get used to it!!

5: How are/have you treated your self? Celebrate your body and its accomplishments
    !
Got my nails done on saturday and this morning got my Lashes done. YAY!!!

    6:
Questions, Concerns, Rants, Raves, Randoms? I heard that the first 2 weeks of nursing are the hardest.... today is day 12 and I already feel SO MUCH better and so much more confident. HOORAY!!! On Wednesday we are going to join a local Mommy's Nursing group! There is a nurse there who weighs the baby before and after nursing so I'll get to see how much Evie is eating! :)

7: GTKY: Who is in your life (besides DH) that you hope has a big influence on your LO/LO's? Close family member, grandparent or friend that you admire who you most hope your littles will look up to or will impart their wisdom? Definitely my Mom and Dad. They are living with us indefinitely. I hope they teach her to speak Portuguese. My grandparents lived with us and I was very very close to them (Evie is named after my Grandmother) I hope the same for her!!!

PS Pic of Evie all ready for church sunday!! befor

  • @serenity13 The morning I woke up with very loose bowels & cramps was the day I went into labor (and I had gone on a long walk the day before!) Jus saying!!

@jenny0228 I also felt less movement the week before having the baby. it really freaked me out. My Doula told me to drink 32oz of cold water & see what happens ... goal was to feel baby within 15min and get the 10 movements within the hour. It worked!! I had a few other days of less movement and would freak out, but then would do the water test and Baby would get active again.
  • -4wks postpartum mark this Thursday (so only 2wks till clearance)

-still having the vertigo challenge. Chiropractor didn't help :( waiting 3more weeks to see my primary care. BOO.

    - just surviving at this point - future goal is to clean up my eating, but right now there is so much dropped off meals of pasta and last minute frozen pizzas and cookies, etc, etc. I'm trying to not care and tell myself I'll have time to eat healthy later.

GTKY: add me to the mom train! My mom is my best friend (we've always been close, but becoming a mom myself just brought us so much closer) and it's the best thing to see her loving on my girls! Plus it's nice to let her get lots of love back without all the work--she's put in her time with me and my siblings so it's nice to let her be a stereotypical grandparent and just enjoy them.
  • @serenity13 I hope your MIL will be able to spend some time with your LO, even though she is in the late stages of her disease. How incredibly hard for you guys to be in such a happy time, yet such a difficult time as well. Hugs!

@Cbeanz only 10lbs to go? It's going to melt away once you get back to working out!

    @Ivorytower2 the more the merrier!

@triwellnessgirl so glad to hear you're feeling so good and having an easy recovery! Thanks for the thoughts- I felt some stronger contractions tonight and just feel overall "on alert"- one more day left for natural labor to start before induction day!

@kjd291 The vertigo is still going? Nooo! Have you thought about trying acupuncture or anything? 3 weeks to see your primary sounds like such a long time!! I'm so sorry- I hope it's gone before your appt comes.

  • @triwellnessgirl oh my goodness I'm overjoyed to hear the incredible news about your step daughter. Really that's life changing!! <3

So glad your recovery is going well. And yes it's super hard to start to feel into a routine until at least 6 weeks. (Ofc each babe is diff) but that nursing group sounds awesome!!! GAH Evie is sooo sweet in her adorable church dress!! <3

    @jenny0228 && @serenity13 Happy Due Date!!!!!!!

@jenny0228 I've Def heard of lo's seeming to move less for exactly why you said - running out of space.

@Cbeanz  Stroller strides is awesome!! It's fantastic bc it's relly something that you get out of what you put into it. Im REALLY looking forward to doing a body back session this summer too!

1: How many weeks or days left to go / weeks or days post-partum
    ? 12 day pp

2: What are your goals for the week ahead
    ? Strech, rest and hydrate!

5: How are/have you treated your self? Celebrate your body and its accomplishments
! Hoping to get my nails done on Wed since we have newborn photos on Friday

6: Questions, Concerns, Rants, Raves, Randoms? Not gonna lie I'm super anxious about being solo with these two kiddos. My 18 MO has been awful (having nothing to do with #2) but his sleep has been awful, breaking molars and starting to throw tantrums. I know it's all developmental at this age and I can manage him just fine but when I'm nursing #2 and DS has a meltdown there's absolutely nothing I can do and it escalates. Sigh...

7: GTKY: Who is in your life (besides DH) that you hope has a big influence on your LO/LO's? Close family member, grandparent or friend that you admire who you most hope your littles will look up to or will impart their wisdom

Can I just say that I love all the mom responses. <3 I hope my little lady is on a thread like this one day and can say the same :)

For me.. idk. We have no family that lives in the area and the friend that I would say actually lives out of state now too. Sounds pretty lame though lol. I guess Ill just say that I hope to develop some of these types of friendships to surround myself and my family with now that we are getting more involved in our new church and the community

  • @Cbeanz only 10!? Wow mama! I've got 25. Hah. Oddly enough I don't look much different from pre preggo and (other than huge nursing boobs) my clothes are mostly fitting.  It's strange how our bodies work. Going to try really hard (easier said than done) to not look at the scale once I'm working out and just focus on being healthy.

@vino831 the struggle is real! You'll be just fine though! I know :] low expectations are always helpful too. Hah.  The 18mo age has been a tough one! Sleep regressions and developmental leap andddd These damn teeth can come in all the way anytime now! Grrr.

@serenity13 I'm so sorry to hear about your MIL. It's so true, I'm sure that your little one coming is giving her so much will to hang out and meet him. Hope you're feeling good today!

@jenny0228 Happy (maybe) Baby Day!! How are you doing!? What time did you say things are scheduled to start?? I'll be thinking of you!

@triwellnessgirl she is so darn cute <3 enjoy your nursing group! Hope you love it!! And so so glad you're feeling more confident already about the journey!! Yay!

@Ivorytower2 of course! Welcome to the party! I'm personally not planning anything till after 6wks, honestly probably not till closer till 8-12. Recovery and rest for me//I'm having a hard enough time eating and drinking enough to keep up my fluid and calories while BF-so adding onto it with exercise personally isn't the best idea.
Im sure light walks and arms in a couple weeks would be fine - just listen to your body!
  • @jenny0228 wishing you all the best today!!!!! You get to meet your son sooooooo soon!!!!!❤ Sending lots of hugs & positive vibes that everything will go great!!!! You look AWESOME btw!!

Thanks so much @kjd291 I'm actually feeling really good today, I'm at work just for half the day & have an appointment this afternoon...might ask for a membrane sweep to help things move along. We'll see! :)
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • Thanks so much @serenity13!  Keeping my fingers crossed for you that labor is not far away for you! We could still have birthday buddies! Good luck at your appt today!
  • Woke up thinking of you @jenny0228!!! I'm still hopeful your baby boy will make his appearance on his terms not on docs!!!!!!! HUGE HUGS!!!!! He's almost here !!!!!
  • Aw thanks @triwellnessgirl!! It's certainly getting exciting now!! :)
  • @serenity13 membrane sweep can't hurt once now that you've hit 40wks. My midwife said ppl *can* have more cramping and contractions that end until going away so it gets you all excited with nothing that actually happens.  BUT on the other hand it can help if your body is ready! research I read said that, on average, sweeps increase the day baby is born by one day. So it does something!!
Glad you're feeling really good!! I found there was definitely a nice calm before the storm, my body gave me a nice break the last week of pregnancy!

@jenny0228 looking awesome and strong mama!!  (Also loving your cute kitchen). FX all it takes is a "whiff of pit" as my nurse called it-and your body jumps into labor to get things rolling to meet your little boy!! So excited for you!
  •  "whiff of pit" I love it! Thinking of you today @jenny0228!!

@serenity13 half day seems like a great way to end the week!  ;) Hope there's a good plan after your Dr's app today!
  • Thanks @vino831 I just posted a rant on the "who's still pregnant?" thread about my appointment. They scheduled me for an induction Tuesday morning should LO not arrive before then. No membrane sweep either. So I'm crying now because this isn't how I wanted my pregnancy to end...although I know there's still time for him to come before then so I'll keep hoping & praying he might!
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @jenny0228 happy baby day!! Thinking of you!!

@serenity13 hoping your LO comes before induction. I know from experience how much it sucks when things don't go how you plan them to with delivery. But if that happens hoping you still have a positive experience.

Going to try to check in more often now! Baby's surprisingly take up all your time, haha.

1: How many weeks or days left to go / weeks or days post-partum
    ? 16 days PP

2: What are your goals for the week ahead
? Try to get outside most days for a little bit, but mostly rest. Still sore enough so I'm finding getting out tough.

3: How was last week? Last week was ok, was able to go on a walk for about 10 minutes outside for the first time last week. It felt good to get some fresh air.

4: Any new challenges or needed modifications you want to share?
? I'm still pretty sore, and now also have a yeast infection....both down there AND on my nipple... yay.... been starting to feel down about the fact that I'm still struggling to get around. I know I need to rest, especially after such a difficult delivery, but I'm a bit upset and jealous of others who delivered vaginally and seem to be up and doing things.

5: How are/have you treated your self? Celebrate your body and its accomplishments
! One thing I DID do this weekend was walk to the pub around the corner and got a pint of cider with DH and MIL in the sun.

    6:
Questions, Concerns, Rants, Raves, Randoms? Rant is mostly I'm sick of feeling not myself. I want to not be sore, I want to be able to go for walks and move around. also DS has a yeast infection in his mouth, so he hasn't been eating as much the last few days. Which means he's been more fussy. Overall hoping that things turn around this week.

7: GTKY: Who is in your life (besides DH) that you hope has a big influence on your LO/LO's? Close family member, grandparent or friend that you admire who you most hope your littles will look up to or will impart their wisdom?
to be honest, I think I'm looking forward to DS being influenced by some of my close friends. I love my parents, but I don't agree with some of their values. I think my in laws will probably be a good impact on him as well.
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @serenity13 I completely understand. I was so upset by my induction after I went 11days over and was so convicted babies should come on their own time. Being forced into the hospital made me so upset. As I'm sure you know and many have said--there's a long time before Tuesday! Statistically speaking there's a huge chance it'll happen before then.  And most importantly : you're the one in charge the process. Induction and doctors make you feel put in a corner-but they can't make you do anything unless it's what you want (or if it's medically necessary) . They can require you to be in the hospital being monitored, but can't speed things along just because they want it. So if you are induced - make sure you' are the one to make each and every decision to start whatever step when you choose. That made a world of difference for me.

@npaulie I'm so sorry you're dealing with a yeast infection on top of everything else. I hope now that it's been found out it'll resolve quickly!! I understand the frustration of just wanting to heal and how hard it is to have your body hold you back from what you want to be doing. If it helps at all... I promise you will miss the days you could just spend all day in bed or on the couch getting newborn cuddles. You'll be up and about before you know it. I bet this week will be a turning point! AND yay for pub outings and cider!!
  • @jenny0228 wow, you are a serious badass. No doubt all your hard work will make for an easy labor. Good luck!!
  • @npaulie love the pic of you and your little man!! I'm so sorry you're feeling so much discomfort still and dealing with yeast infections but it's great you got out into the sun for a while for some cider! I hope it won't be long before you are feeling more like yourself.

@serenity13-2 continuing to think of you and hoping things will fall into place for you and there will be no need for the induction.

    @Ivorytower2 thanks so much!!

So I am waiting for the nurse to come back in soon, I've been taking oral cervical ripening drugs every 4 hrs overnight and I started getting some stronger contractions. They are every 3-5 mins and my lower back is on fire. Been going on for the last hour+. C'mon body! Keep it up!!!
  • @jenny0228 if you're able, get on knees & elbows with butt up in the air & do some pelvic rocks. This will help relieve some of the pain of back labor, which I had as well. Your baby may be posterior, this will help to try to get him to turn anterior.

    thinking of you!!
  • @jenny0228 thinking of you today!! I second what @triwellnessgirl said. It was the main position I felt comfortable in.
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • I spent the majority leaning onto the bed on my forearms, rocking, withDH pushing against my lower back!
you got this @jenny0228 sounds like today is baby day!! Youre gonna rock this!
  • @npaulie thank you! I'm so sorry you're struggling with the yeast infection & also feeling like your recovery isn't going as well as you'd expected, but you're doing amazing and your little guy is adorable, I'm glad you got some fresh air & a trip to the pub!

@kjd291 thanks so much, that gives me a lot of hope that even if it does come to it I'll still have a voice on things & can refuse certain drugs or anything else. I felt up against a wall yesterday with no say in the matter, but I'm going to call my dr office this morning to see if I can get in again today or tomorrow & have a membrane sweep done as a first attempt to get things going.

@jenny0228 thank you! It does sound like today's the day, I'm so excited for you!! Hoping things progress well & quickly and you'll get to hold your little boy soon! Whatever means it takes the important thing is a healthy baby at the end of it all, you've been such an inspiration for me on this journey, you'll do amazing!!❤

I brought out my breast pump last night & read the instructions, cleaned the parts, and hooked myself up to it for about an hour on & off. That thing is intimidating! I'm glad I learned how to use it ahead though & glad my dog got to hear it & get familiar with the sound - at first he was so concerned for me & wouldn't leave my side thinking something was wrong. Nothing came out for me, I haven't had any leakage at any point so far but wasn't sure what to expect last night. I did start having contractions throughout the night/morning although nothing regularly or consistent. They stopped once I got out of bed this morning...I'll probably try the pump again tonight after I get home from work, especially if my dr won't allow me to have a membrane sweep.
I also wrote out a pro/con list about the induction last night & was surprised to have several more pro's than con's on the list. I know either way the end is in sight and I'll be ok with either outcome...it'll all be worth it when I get to meet my baby!

Also - not sure why my username changed?? don't know where the -2 came from lol
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @serenity13-2 I was wondering that! Hah.

im glad you're trying to get the sweep! I was gonna recommend that too. They should definitely be able to accommodate.

when I pumped at the hospital to try and get things going the MW had me doing 10min pumping, 20min walking for 4rounds.

And make sure your nipples are fitting properly // no pain. The last thing you want is to have soreness before baby even arrives!!
  • So it was looking really promising then contractions stalled out! Rats!!! Still having mild ones but they aren't getting closer or stronger. The doctor that is on today is also very serious and warned me that a bigger baby can get stuck and be left with some sort of arm palsy. I think she has to tell me about all the risks as a liability thing but then she said, "I mean, I don't know you at all, but you look like you're in pretty good shape, you might be able to push a large baby out if you're strong." Then just kept talking and talking about things they will try next, never allowing me to get a word in. She asked if I had questions at the end but by that time I was so bulldozed I just said no.

I should have said, yes you don't know me but maybe if you asked me some questions instead of talking AT me you could get some insight!!

Anyway- they have me doing 2 more doses of cyotec taking me well into this evening. They won't even check me until then to see if it's working and then if it is, they will either do the internal ripener drug, the balloon, or break my water.

I'm sooo bored now, trying to focus on positive thoughts!! I was probably naive to get my hopes up earlier but trying not to get too down about it.
  • @jenny0228 I'm sorry that you felt talked at instead of getting the chance to talk WITH the doc about the process. If you do have Q, please don't hesitate to call the doc back into the room to discuss with you--remember you'll soon get a bill for several thousand dollars for their care--so you shouldn't ever feel like you don't get exactly what you need from your docs!!
    hugs-and try to stay positive!!
  • @jenny0228 I second @kjd291 's comment & recommendation. This is YOUR body, YOUR birth, YOUR baby. Please please please ask to speak to the doctor again to clarify things. These are YOUR decisions to make!!! And yes, you ARE strong enough!!!
  • This is YOUR body and birth! So sorry they weren't asking YOU questions or listening to you. Hopefully you get a more in-touch Dr at the next shift change.

I'm very interested in your birth @jenny0228 bc I was so impressed with your fitness level right up to the end! Also bc I think you chose the same boy name we had (but lo turned out female)!

    Let's go baby!
  • Thanks so much ladies @kjd291 @triwellnessgirl @Cbeanz you are all SO right. They are throwing a lot at me and it's getting confusing, but I need them to help me understand the options. The doctor did come back in, checked me again and said there is progress but they will have more options tonight around 9p. I was able to ask more questions this time and got some clarity on what might work and what might not. The doctor was more personable this time around.

Back to having semi-painful contractions each time I get a new dose of meds. This is so dreadfully boring and uncomfortable!! At least the nurses are all very kind and knowledgeable.

Cannot wait to meet this little nugget- going to do some positive meditation now... thanks for all the good thoughts and cheering me on!! You guys are the.best!!!

@cbeanz his name will be Oscar Harrison!

  • @jenny0228 so glad to hear that the dr was more personable and you were able to ask more clarifying questions. Will be thinking about you tonight!!
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @jenny0228 hoping things keep progressing for you! Glad you got to have some of your questions answered & that the nursing staff sounds nice!

@kjd291 thanks for the advice!! I called & scheduled a membrane sweep for tomorrow afternoon. I actually didn't try pumping again tonight because DH & I had sex instead and ever since I've been having crazy cramps/contractions.
Not sure if I'll be getting any sleep tonight but here's hoping labor might be starting! If they pick up more I'll start timing them, it's just very uncomfortable & my stomach has been rock hard the last few hours. Baby's still been moving around & I've been shivering a lot which supposedly can be a sign of labor starting too...we'll see...24ish hours left for this guy to still be a March baby!
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @serenity13-2 hoping this a sign of a March baby!! DH and I had sex the night before I went into labour too. Definitely keep us updated!!
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • WooHoo @serenity13-2 !!!! C'mon Baby!!!!!
  • Yay @serenity13-2!! Let's go baby!!! Hope your contractions turn into the real thing quickly!!!

Thanks again for all the thoughts ladies- I got a different internal induction med last night. Having consistent contractions again, I'll find out late morning if they are productive. Last night I was finally starting to dilate, so if I can get to 3 or 4 today they will start pit.
  • Thanks for the encouragement ladies! These false alarms are awful - the contractions & shivering stopped in the middle of the night but my belly's still hard & solid. Hoping the sweep my dr will do this afternoon will be the thing that'll do the trick for good! I actually think Baby might be holding out for Sunday because that's the exact mid-point between mine & DH's birthdays haha guess time will tell.

@jenny0228 thinking of you & sending strength & positive vibes your way!! Hoping you'll be dilated to at least a 3 or 4 in the next few hours!!
