Re: TTTC Checkin 03/22/2017 and 03/28/2017

  • Thanks for the reassurance @SP128 and @Worldtravler0522 :)
I'll be on CD13 on the day of the appt. My big concern is if I have to wait for my next AF for any testing. My last cycle was 91 days and there is no predictability there at all, so it will be impossible to preemptively book an appointment. I'll only know when CD1 is when it actually comes, so if anything has to be done in the first couple of days, we'll only have a couple of days to try to get in.
It will be good to get some form of game plan happening though

@Tops  What day are you going to be tomorrow?  It doesn't hurt to give the RE's office a call to see if you can sneak in day 3 testing.  They told me they can actually do it on day 4 or 5 as well.  The blood work is pretty routinely ordered so they may not have a problem with it.

I tried that because I was going to be on the cusp for my first apt.  They didn't let me schedule but hey it's worth a shot!!

  • @SP128 - I missed this question: What kind of business are you hoping to start?

I'm flexible. ;) Most of my requirements are around profitability and ease of work-life balance.

For about the past 5 years, I wouldn't leave my job until I could guarantee I'd earn at least x amount - a fair chunk of my existing salary. So if I were to start a business from scratch, it would have had to have been something I could have done on the side for a while. There was just too much going on for us to lose my entire salary. Instead of starting one, I also looked at buying existing businesses with proven track records - mostly car washes and laundromats, things like that.

Now that we're a little more established, in about 2 years, I'd be able to take on more risk, if I wanted. Sometimes, I think about opening an ice cream parlor. But we'll see. I have my eye on some other opportunities, too. ;)

@Tops it happened - huge congrats on your CD1. Phew!
@funkykey a very sensible strategy! I worked full time for the first year of starting our business - it was a pretty intense year, but it meant we didn't take on anywhere near as much financial risk. An ice cream parlour would be so fun - i love the fancy twee ones you get in Europe!

  • @Tops some REs will put you on BCP to take control of your cycle/control timing, help control cysts or prep your ovaries for stims.  For my IUIs I was never put on it but for IVF they did.  Everyone's RE is so different so you many never be put on them.

@funkykey I am jumping on the ice cream parlor bandwagon! You can't go wrong with ice cream!

    @kd0202 FX!!

I have a question for those of you who may know. MH had his SA this morning at the RE's office. I know they already have the results because I spoke with one of the nurses this afternoon and she told me she had them but "the doctor hasn't reviewed them yet". So I asked if someone would call later in the week and she said what they typically do is have us come back in after all the testing he ordered is completed and he'll go over everything with us. That's going to take weeks since I have to wait for the HSG. We are both anxious to know the results and see if there is any improvement with his count. Is it typical to have to wait for results like that? I feel like if MH calls them and asks they should be able to share the results over the phone. I mean, it is his medical records. I feel like the office is holding the results hostage for our $40 office visit copay.  :D
  • Well, cyst check did not go as I hoped. It's a tiny bit smaller, went from 28 to 20 in size. Benched this month while I go on birth control to see if that does the trick to get rid of the bugger. Spent the whole drive home crying and cursing the universe for hating me. 2 large glasses of wine, a hot bubble bath, and a good book have me feeling a bit better now (and a wee bit drunk), but I'm just so damned drained, physically and emotionally.

Decided not to make the next month a complete waste. Since we will not be spending money on treatments, I decided to finally sign up for an online Gordon Ramsay cooking class I have been dying to do. I was contemplating a tattoo, but DH vetoed that one...Probably for the best.

  • @Kim41313 - my H's results were posted to our clinic's patient portal (like special website with login) before our initial consult with the RE, so we didn't have to wait. We had a lot of testing done before our first meeting with our RE - no one called us, and because there was no issue, the RE didn't flag it at our first meeting. DH spent about an hour googling to see what all the results meant though, after seeing it on the patient portal.

@hoffmanr7 - OMG, I am so sorry to hear that. I would have cried too. I hope you are thoroughly sloshed. This is the worst - sooo soooo much waiting.

I hope the Gordon Ramsay cooking class is good. Like you, I have spent the money we would spend on treatment during our benched month on other things. This IF, it takes a lot out of us. I was starting to get so stressed about all of it (the cost, the depression, the will we ever have a child?), that I'd stopped taking care of myself - stopped having my hair cut and painting my nails and replacing really threadbare clothes. Even DH stopped doing things, because he's been so anxious about paying for IVF. This past month, it's been like: "No, we both need new jeans and maybe we should go our for dinner and go on a little holiday for a couple of nights." At the very, very least, it's helping me pass the time - and sometimes, I even forget about the IF, albeit briefly.

I keep meaning to ask - how is the mill closure going? Are you guys ok?
  • @hoffmanr7 ugh, I am so sorry. Hugs to you. I love that you're doing something for you this month though!

@Kim41313 I had my day 3 bloodwork done well over a week ago. I called the clinic and they said that's it wouldn't be in the portal because it was done by a third party lab!! I know they have the results. We just saw dh blood work results online last night on the portal because he had it done a thing the clinic. No sa results yet though.
When I called, the nurse told me that all results will be reviewed at our follow up apt. I explained that if I need meds to address something's like thyroid, I would prefer to start now. She reiterated that things will be reviewed next month. Wtf? They are after my $60 copay.

@hoffmanr7 ugh. Sorry to hear. Hope the bc pills are the answer. The cooking class sounds amazing !!

  • @sp128 crazy how much they like that copay, right? I wish they'd do a "4 emails or phone be calls = a copay" and just give you the results when they're ready. The waiting is killer!

@hoffmanr7 sorry about the reason for the cooking class, but excited you get to take it! Let us know how it is - I've been looking at that one, too :)

AFM, coming out of a crazy busy 2 weeks where I've only lurked. Have an appointment Thursday to discuss my 7dpo results where my progesterone was apparently at a .1. Hooray? Par for the course with this journey, when they finally decide to do the test, it's on the one cycle my body decides to not follow it's usual pattern. Sigh.
  • @funkykey We actually lucked out.  The mill got a couple of house sales which should be enough to carry us through another year...so we are good on that front.  It was a big relief, one less thing to worry about.  Thank you so much for remembering and asking though. :)

Feeling a bit better this morning...but still pretty drained.  It was very difficult to convince myself to get out of bed this morning. lol.  Thanks every one for the kind words <3

  • I just got word from my RE that they approved my chromosomal testing that they originally said they wouldn't. I'm so scared to get it done. It's like I'm desperate to know but terrified at the same time.

**TW loss mentioned** my missed miscarriage was caused by a chromosomal issue and there is a possibility (even though it's small) that either DH or I have a balanced translocation. My RE is concerned that because I just had an empty gestational sac that they actually tested my material instead **end TW**

  • @SP128 right?! They are definitely after our copays!

Unfortunately, my RE's office doesn't have an online portal. They need to get with it!

@hoffmanr7  sorry about the cysts!  :(

@MooFish2364 I hope that everything comes back normal with your chromosomal testing! When are you having it done?
  • (I just posted this on the TTGP board too, so sorry if any of you are seeing this twice!)

Ahhhhhhh I just scheduled an appointment with an RE for April 25th! Obviously part of me is very excited as you can tell, but part of me is really nervous and sad. And the very small irrational SS part of me is like, "Maybe I'll get pregnant this cycle and get to cancel my appointment and unicorns are real!"

I struggled trying to choose between the three in my area, but after contacting the three (and not even hearing back from one...rude) it became obvious which one to choose! And the lady I spoke to was really nice, so that was good.

@BWhitta I went to counseling at the end of last year. I am actually in school right now to get my master's in marriage and family counseling. Because I'm a student, I get free counseling at the center on campus. Since we aren't living on campus anymore, are 1.5 hours away, and only go to campus once a month, I had to discontinue counseling. We can't afford the price for a local counselor, sadly. I found it to be really helpful, even if to just vent about how unfair IF is and process my emotions behind everything. I'd recommend it to anyone!

@PoeMasque Aw!! look how sweet they are already!!! Congrats and good luck! FX for you!

AFM- I am 6 dpo with my first clomid (unmonitored) cycle. I had blood work Monday to check progesterone to see if I ovulated. I did! yay! So now we wait. I must confess that I have already taken 3 hpt's, knowing that there is no way i could get a bfp this early. I go see my midwife tomorrow morning for my yearly well woman. Not looking forward to stripping naked for someone to look at my lady bits at 7 am, but hey, gotta do what you gotta do, and 7 am allows me to not have to take off work.
Then next week I go to see a gastroenterologist because I have the worst acid reflux constantly, no matter what I do, unless I have taking a high dose rx for it. If I miss a dose at all, I feel like I am going to die with the reflux. And today, for the first time, I had reflux even though I've been taking the med regularly. So finally, I am going to get checked out and probably scoped for it to make sure that I'm not actually dying.

Because I'm in the TWW and it was my first clomid cycle and my first time showing that I ovulated, I am super anxious. If I don't get the BFP this month, I will be taking a break for a while. I think I mentioned that. If there's no BFP, DH will get a SA, but either way, we will be benched until we can manage the finances for the next steps. I don't want to do more than one unmonitored clomid cycle, and that's all my obgyn does. So fx that I see that elusive second line.

GTKY- probably moving to the midwest immediately following graduation from university in 2013. That's where I met DH and got to know myself. 14 hours away from anyone that I knew and all comfort and security. Best choice ever.

    So sorry for the novel!

  • @MJDsquared GL with the RE! April 25 isn't too far away, I'm glad you didn't have to wait too long for an appointment!

@Kate437  ugh! Sorry you had to deal with that, but glad that your mom's surgery went well.

I am 14 DPO and my chart tricked me into testing this morning... BFN. So I guess I'll be calling tomorrow to schedule my HSG  :s

  • I am so glad to be off work for the weekend after today.....I mean holy pregnant people batman! All these people are either KU or trying. Like all of a sudden it's baby talk everywhere and I can't get away from it.... I'm glad I'm kinda far in my journey to where I'm not gonna break down crying when I hear it or see it anymore :/

@MJDsquared less than a month. Not bad. You can always call to see if they have cancellations. I was able to move my follow up two weeks that way

    @Kim41313 bfn sucks

  • @SP128 Of the three REs around here, one didn't respond and the other was booking for May. When I first emailed this place they were booking for the week of the 17th and I didn't schedule because AF should come April 20th if I ovulate on CD 21 which is "normal" (aka the two times I've ovulated in the past year it's been CD 21). And I made sure to check their cancellation policy just in case I do magically get KU!

@MJDsquared ok. You may be able to sneak in day 3 testing. I checked the cancellation policy too.  I'm on track to get my period right before my follow up. If it's too late to cancel I'll prob just go to review test results and go over treatment planning just in case

  • @SP128 I know I might miss the testing window which is a bummer, but I didn't want to schedule for the week of the 17th and pay for a $350 consultation and then find out I'm pregnant (since some people don't get a positive test until after missing their period).

I hope the timing works out for you!!

  • @Kim41313 so sorry for the BFN. I swear every month somethig tricks me into testing and ten I'm mad at myself.

@kaitlink33 I know what you mean. I went to the lab on Wednesday to have my chromosomal testing done (which I'm terrified to receive the results of) and there were 2 other women there and they were both pregnant. This is just a regular lab and there usually isn't even anyone else in there. It was awful.
