Baby Clothes and More!

Re: Baby Clothes and More!

  • I'm not sure why, but I'm a little nervous to buy any clothes this time around.  I think it's because my son was super little, and I don't want to have all these clothes that don't fit.  I have not bought a single thing, despite how much I complained about girl clothes being cuter than boy clothe.  I need to get my ass in gear!
Same here, everytime I want to make a purchase I get double minded, I don't know what to expect and it's just annoying making decisions for someone I haven't seen yet. I'm finding it more difficult than I had expected!

@mars8k I got that outfit from Carters.com; they were having a 50% off + an additional 20% off sale.

  • If anyone wants giant bows I have links.
  • @mamadcb I'm in the same boat! This little boy has his big brother's entire wardrobe (and they'll have been born a month apart, so they'll have the same seasonal sizes), and I haven't bought that much. BUT I've been unable to resist the below matchy matchy.

  • @ljd2010 Oh my goodness how had this not occurred to me??? I am now officially on the lookout for cute matching outfits  :D
  • I think this question fits here.  For those having girls - will you pierce their ears in the hospital?  Do they even do that in the US?  I haven't thought about it too much until now- where I grew up it was common practice to have it done before discharge.  I saw a couple cute pearl earrings at Nordstroms - still haven't bought anything yet though.  Anyone else shopping for earrings or other jewelry for baby?
  • I don't know about everywhere @caribbeanmama but my hospital did not offer ear piercing.

Thanks!  I'm not sure I would be able to stomach it even if they did offer it.  Given how I freaked out I was at the thought of circumcision when I had my son and how I straight up bawled when they did the heel prick ehem puncture test, I'm guessing I would wait.  It's fun to look at earrings though.

I honestly wouldn't do this. I know it's cute...but a lot of babies tend to pull on/rub their ears a lot and the last thing you need is for them to be yanking on jewelry.

  • @rae1 makes sense, I just hadn't thought about what persons normally do here in the US.  Will ask our pediatrician for more information/data.  I'm a wuss and wouldn't be able to sit through it in the hospital anyway but my Mom had 4 girls and we all left the hospital in studs.
  • So I was thinking ... why don't we July mamas all buy the same baby outfit! . something that is a basic outfit like a sleeper gown or something and gender neutral?

I wouldn't, but that is my personal preference. We waited until DD asked to get her ears pierced. She's been asking for the last year, and we decided to go ahead and do it for her birthday last weekend. She just turned 6 :)

@caribbeanmama I've been thinking about this lately.  They don't do it in the hopsital where I am but I don't think I'm going to get her ears pierced at all.  I'll leave that up to her and get it done if/when she asks.  I'm personally allergic to anything fake.  I'm also not an accessory person at all and real jewelry (gold, silver) is not something I care to spend money on. I can still put earrings in my original holes (I have 2 sets) if I want but I just end up itchy and swollen so I don't even bother.  If she's going to be anything like me in that sense I don't want it happening when she's an infant.

  • My first piece of clothing I bought even before we knew that she was a she ... I saw it and just had to have it.

(Ugh.  That pic is SO BIG!)  2 days after I found out that baby was a "she" Carter's/OshKosh had one of their 25% off sales plus I'm also a Tanger Member so that got me an additional 20% off.  That was my first shopping excursion for her and I spent a LOT of money. Then 2 weeks ago Costco had the Pekkle sleepers on for $5.99 (CAD of course lol) so I stashed up and got all the 3m I needed then a few 6m and 9m hoping they go back on sale before she reaches that age.  I've stopped with the clothes for now until after the shower because everyone likes to buy clothes when they know its a girl.  There is a woman here who makes super cute headbands so I will probably get some from her.

The girl at the store told me not to buy the cloth diapers until she's here because until then I won't know what brand will fit her best so I've (begrudgingly) held off for now.  My plan is to have her in disposables for the meconium stage anyways so hoping that will give me enough time to get my stuff in gear.  They also do a 1 week rental program with all the different brands so that you don't have to buy some only to find out they don't work for your baby and then be stuck with the product.  And as a FTM they also do an info session once a month on all the different kinds of cloth diapers.  I went in thinking I would do prefolds until I actually got in the store and she started to explain it to me and I immediately went, "Nope.  That will be too difficult for my husband!" lol so now I'm leaning more towards AIO's.  Still ... I need to get to that info session.

  • Does anyone know anything about the Babies R Us registry events tomorrow?

I saw an add for them posted somewhere, but pretty minimal info about what sorts of giveaways they will have and whether it's all day or just a few hours. My nearest BRU is a bit out of the way (not terrible, just in the opposite direction of everything else I need to do tomorrow), so I am trying to decide if it is worth my time.

They have then every 2-3 weeks as far as I can tell. I wouldn't make a special trip, but I'm not a big BRU fan. I drive the 1.5 hrs to Buy Buy Baby!

  • @stokesm21 I can't tell from your post whether you realize whether the meconium poop is a one-off or not.

I've heard great things about Jillians Drawers if you're interested in cloth diaper rentals for maybe more than a week. (Everyone is different but personally I needed longer than a week to have my act together enough to do something like but a bunch of cloth diapers meant to last years...)

    ETA: Nevermind.  Found it!

Yeah, I never even saw the "meconium stage" because it was over before my epidural wore off so DH changed the first few diapers. I know lots of CD people use disposables until the baby is our of newborn sizes so you don't spend  $$$ on a newborn stash that may only last a month.

This is me.  My babies all had chicken legs in the NB stage anyway; I could never get the cloth tight enough until they gained a few pounds.

Yes, I realize it doesn't last long at all.  More so what I meant was that I will do disposables until I am able to get my shit together and figure out which CD's fit her best.  I've never heard of them but I'm Canadian and while they do ship here our dollar is so bad in comparison right now it probably wouldn't make sense.  Although I will still definitely look into it because the odd time, it does still save me some $ ordering from the U.S anyways.  TY! There's a few other places in the nearby city that does rentals so I'll check out all the other options.  It's tough.  I know the last thing I'm going to want to do baby's first few weeks is worry about going out and buying a stash of CD's.  Ugh.  So many decisions.  I just don't want to spend that kind of $ on a entire stash before she comes only for it to not fit her well.  The store does sell gently used ones as well at a significantly lower price so that's an option too while I'm figuring her out.  Keeping her in disposables for an extended (ex: a month or so) period of time isn't an issue.  I'm open ... I mean I really want to CD but if it takes me some time to get there I'm okay with that.
