Unmediated Birth Anyone?

Re: Unmediated Birth Anyone?

  • Bringing this thread back because I'm interested to know if anyone has used hypnobabies? The doula I have hired is an instructor. I can't attend any classes because of work but I am thinking of buying the self study book. Worth it?

  • @jessieR358 I've heard good things about them , but didn't use them personally. I used the Bradley Method.
  • @bassoondiva I read the Bradley method book but it went out the window with DS and an induction ha
  • I wasn't prepared for an unmedicated birth with my DD bc with my DS I ended up getting an epidural 6 hours into laboring and had him 6 hours later. With DD I had intentions of getting an epidural but she had other plans - I barely made it to the hospital on time! The nurses were trying to get an IV in my arm when I pushed once and she was born! Led free with just a bruise on arm hahah. So I had no time to really think of any kind of breathing techniques my mind was focused on "get baby out!" I may read up on some methods this time since I would love to go med-free again, but by choice.

    Same exact thing here!
  • I plan to go as long as I can unmedicated. I am not against an epi and want to be reasonable about the situation. A few friends of mine have had really good success with hypno birthing  ( one who had a crazy long sunny side up back labour made it through with it. She said even the nurses were cringing in pain for her)

  • @jessieR358 and @lap018 it's been so long ( 6 1/2 years) that I need to read it again. Or at least read something. LOL.
  • Yes, I had an epidural with my first even though I planned on going natural. My induction was no joke! I'd like to go as long as I can this time. Maybe I'll look into it. It can't hurt but it is $168 for the self study course on top of the cost of my doula  :#

  • I had an epi with my first after the pictocin. The epi was a gift from god at that point. My daughter was unmedicated in the hospital. I haf an amazing doula who helped me push through the end but what helped was the breathing techniques from Ina Mays book. A lightbulb went off and I suddenly remembered all that stuff. Laboring at home for as long as possible was a huge help too. I showed up at the hospital and it was pretty much go time.

  • @jessieR358 did you just get the info off of their website? I'm going to look into it. Maybe I can enroll as well.
  • I had no plans to go unmedicated with my 1st pregnancy but long story short I was in labor but sent home bc I wasn't dilated so I labored all night returned to the hospital around 7am the next morning and was 8cm. Water never broke on its own. 2 hours later my son was here. Oddly the pain disappeared when it was time to push - i just felt pressure. I'd like to try again with this pregnancy but I'm not sure I'll be able to - unless I have a faster labor! It was pain on a whole other level that I can't even find words to fully explain.
  • @bassoondiva yes it's on the hypnobabies website under self study section.

  • I'm so glad you started this post! I really want to go unmedicated but I have no idea what to expect so I'm scared. My hospital has a few classes that I can sign up for once I'm 20 weeks. I'll have to look into both Bradley method and hypnobabies now tho!

  • With my first everything went amazing and I delivered unmedicated and had a great recovery. With my second my water was leaking and I wasn't progressing so they gave me pitocin. That stuff is horrible but somehow I made it through and delivered unmedicated. I almost caved but it was when I was ready to push. I plan unmedicated with this one as well. Good luck to everyone! I know I'm a little more nervous this time than I was with my other too.
