Why my SO is awesome (3/13)

Yes our SOs can absolutely annoy us, especially during this hormonal time. Nobody is perfect or has the perfect relationship! But they can also be our biggest helper & supporter sometimes! Let's use this thread to give a shout out to what our SOs have been doing to help or support us.

My DH read that eating something before I get out of bed can help with MS, so now he brings me toast and tea in bed every morning. It does help a little ... but I'm still miserable, so he gets a second shout-out for patiently putting up with my all-day every-day bitchfest about how terrible everything is.

@migdala that's so sweet!! Yes my SO has had to put up with a lot of complaining. I'm so happy to be pregnant but it's hard being sick all day and trying to care for our son and house. He's been patient and mostly sympathetic lol. And he's definitely had to cook a lot more and he's picked up a couple of my cravings.

Aww I love this thread

DH has been incredible since we found out. I've been cooking a lot less because I'm not into any kind of meat, and he's been so sweet about having to get more takeout. Plus he's doing so much around the house and doesn't make me feel at all bad for being lazy sometimes.

The other day he melted my heart by saying, "I know there's not a ton I can really do while you're pregnant, but just know that when the baby's here I'm going to be your partner and super involved and I cannot wait."

My DH has been great. Even when I'm not pregnant, he helps out a ton around the house with chores, but he has seriously stepped it up since I've been pretty useless, and he rarely complains. I have still been doing most of the cooking and taking care of DD (because she's attached to me 24/7) but he's been doing EVERYTHING else. I try to make sure to shower him with thank yous, to make sure he knows he's appreciated and to soften the blow of my moodiness. I bet he can't wait until I'm out of the first trimester

Yesterday he bought me a Snickers when he went to get his hair cut lol. He has been pretty awesome helping out more around the house and understanding why I've been slacking around the house haha. I'm definitely ready for more energy.

In our first pregnancy, we were both kind of like deer in headlights. Excited, but very much "omg what is going on??" Then we lost that baby. Then I got pregnant with DD and we were extremely low key with that one - no big reveals to family, we barely even talked about it until the end of the first trimester - almost like we were trying to keep our emotions in check.

This time - he's just been so excited. He's excited about everything - taking care of DD more, taking care of stuff around the house more, wanting me to sit around and relax more, hold my hair back while I'm hugging the toilet - he's just been absolutely everything I needed. We finally told our parents last week, which is longer than we've ever waited to tell them, and I definitely needed the extra support from him until our families found out - he totally stepped up.

I'm not saying he *wasn't* excited with the first two rounds. But it's like he knows what to expect this go around and can't wait to get there whereas last time he was a little hesitant because no one ever knows what they're getting themselves into.

I've been so tired lately, I mean I feel I can't get enough sleep! My DH only gets one day off a week, and I haven't had the energy to do laundry. He told me don't worry he'll do it on his day off. But that made me feel bad so I gathered all the energy I could yesterday and washed all the clothes. He has been cooking for us. And is always asking me if I need or want anything. I have mood swings like crazy! He just hugs me and kisses my forehead and tells me "it's OK you can be annoyed, I still love you" and it totally snaps me out of whatever I was mad about. He listens to me cry and complain all while holding my hand and telling me it's gonna be OK. He took today off instead of his usual day off to go with me to my first appointment, cuz I've been so scared that I have an EP due to horrible pain in my lower right abdomen. So that makes me happy. And right now he is mopping the floors, so I'm gonna make him some breakfast. I'm so happy and blessed to have such a loving, understanding and patient DH

We were in the living room just hanging out with our 2 kids. He came over, gave me a kiss on the forehead, and said "Thank you for giving me all 3 of our kids. I love you." He never really says mushy things like that so it was really sweet. Plus he went shopping later and brought home a cheesecake so bonus points there.

@natleilynn so sorry for your loss. Loss changes everything. DH has helped calmed my nerves at every turn as we lost our last pregnancy and I was terrified to bond with this baby. Hoping for a safe & healthy pregnancy for you!!

@mrs_fogue I love having a little secret with DH!! Although it's way easier for him to not tell anyone bc he's not the one barfing and exhausted LOL

@MamaStreeter thank you! I feel pretty good about this one, but that's exactly how I was with DD - terrified to bond. I don't think I relaxed until I got to the point in the pregnancy where it was likely she would have survived if I had gone into labor early. So I'm trying to be a little more calm this go around. I keep telling myself no matter what happens, I have DD and I'm beyond thankful for her in our lives.

I have a new set of doctors this go around (due to us moving states) and my primary one has been very open about her losses - so she gets where my head is and is amazing about doing whatever she can to reassure me. We've had two ultrasounds so far and she feels pretty confident this one is a sticky!

Aw this thread gives me the feels. My SO is also being super delightfully sweet and considerate. He's generally a well rounded guy, but these days, he's extra helpful, extra kind, extra loving... I almost don't want it to end! But, alas, babies will *hopefully* be had!

DH is my rock. He cooks for me every day, does all the housework, gets everything I need whenever I want (and sometimes in anticipation of). He's considerate, sensitive and uplifting. When we lost our first pregnancy, he took a month compassion leave from his (new!) job to make sure we grieved together and could start to piece our lives back together. I just received a terrible bit of news about a dear friend and he came straight home, no questions asked. He is truly my other half, rounding out all my jagged edges, and I am so in love every day and so lucky.

I much prefer this thread to the one about our husbands being assholes :-) my husband says the odd silly thing which reminds me that he doesn't really understand pregnancy but for the most part he's amazing. Lately he's been getting up early and making breakfast for our one-year-old and myself every day because he knows i'm super queasy and week feeling in the morning. He's also been calling me from work during the day to make sure I'm doing OK because he knows how exhausted I've been :-)

He went through DS's closet and rotated out all of the old clothes to the attic, plus he got the toddler bed down so we can transition DS soon. All without me even asking.

He's putting away a lot of laundry and entertaining the toddler while I watch The Bachelor. Really, he's doing all this so he's not stuck watching the show, but I'll just say he's doing it all for me!

I went grocery shopping yesterday morning after the kids went to school. They didn't have everything I needed. I planned on going back out later for the rest at a different store. When I got home I felt so sick and so so tired. He went out after a long day of work on his way home to grab the other items I needed. That's love.

Aww this is a sweet thread. I feel like DH has been my rock with our infertility journey. It hasn't been easy one bit (6 years!), but he has tried to be as patient and supportive as possible. Going through IVF, he wanted to do all the injections so that he felt part of the process, and made super clean and healthy meals the entire time. I ended up having a gallbladder surgery in January (underlying issue that was triggered by all the hormones I was taking), and he completely went on the same diet I had to be on. Fast forward to today, and he just wants me to nap and snack as much as I need to.

On Saturday I was diagnosed with strep. He put me to bed, closed the door and took care of everything all weekend. Did the laundry, took care of all the kids (we have 4, seven and under), even made lunches for the girls for Monday. Pretty much he rocked of awesomeness, woke me to eat and take medicine.

My husband comes home and just takes over everything - gets the dinner I've made onto the table, gives the baths, does math work (we homeschool) and gets everyone to bed, including the baby. My MS is worse in the evening so I'm pretty useless by then but he keeps everything going. He really is awesome.

My husband has been doing a lot of little things for me over the last several weeks since we found out we are having our first! I have been falling asleep on the couch religiously at 8:30, and if the dishes haven't been done, he does them. He reminds me to have a snack before bed so I don't feel so awful in the morning. He checks on me if I am getting sick. He makes sure I haven't passed out in the shower. If some laundry needs switched over, he does it. We are going through some major family changes (on top of the pregnancy, of course!) and he is doing everything he can to keep me calm and relaxed. WHO IS THIS MAN?! He never did any of this before (been together 8 years, married almost three of those years) but he really has stepped up to the plate! He truly is going to make an amazing father!! I don't even think he realizes how awesome he is being. I tell him everyday how much he means to me and everything he is doing to help is so appreciated

I'm ready for the second trimester so I can have a little more energy!!

This pregnancy is kicking my butt and my SO has totally stepped up! We have a 17-month-old and my SO takes care of him so I can rest. In the morning I hear them having breakfast and am so grateful for that extra time to rest! He's an awesome dad and awesome spouse.....I seriously don't know how I would do it without him!

My SO has been amazing lately. I work in DC but he and I live in Mississippi and I make the commute each month- so I'm gone for 18 days out of the month. He loves where he lives because he grew up there and was dead set on raising a family there. But recently has decided it's time to uproot and make the move to DC since he knows I love my job. He's even game to move to London if I get transferred there! He's been so supportive and loving knowing I'm struggling with MS and fatigue without him. When I get a craving for something I usually text him just because it's so silly what I get cravings for but this past week he has called restaurants and had food delivered without telling me! I was seriously craving peach pie for some reason and lo and behold 45 minutes later it showed up at my door. The poor delivery guy couldn't figure out why I was crying. So thankful for him.

@MamaStreeter thanks for starting this thread! It's so nice to be reminded to think about the good things your SO does for you and not just the negative stuff.

My DH is absolutely wonderful! Our son has not been sleeping without one of us in his room for the past 2+ weeks. DH has been pulling night duty so that I can sleep. Poor guy has been sleeping in a glider in DS's room every night. He is in so much pain. But he does it all so I can sleep!
