How did you tell your SO?

I'm sorry if this is a repeat post. I looked for half the night and didn't find one but I'm on the app so looking half the night really means I loaded the same screens over and over again with very little progress.

I'm wanting to hear from ladies about how they told their SO. Did you do something cute? Did you just drop it on him?

My my first pregnancy I just kinda dropped it on my Ex, and he didn't really have anything to say. He paused his video game for a few seconds but didn't really do anything.

This is time I have something cute planed for when I get to see DH this weekend, but I'm also nervous about it.

I'd love to hear everyone's stories about how it went and what you did.

Re: How did you tell your SO?

  • This time, my SO was out of town for business when I found out. When he got home, I had a box of his favorite cookies sitting on the counter with a card with his name on it. Inside it said "If I'm getting fat, so are you! Baby Daddy Part II coming in October!"

Not original, I've seen it all over Pinterest, but thought it was perfect for him and his love of cookies. Wasn't expecting him to take 15 minutes to see it, but I guess he was still amped up from being on the road so much.

  • I love the cookie idea, so sweet!
i did the test at 5am and DH was still sleeping off a hangover. At 7am I had enough of waiting and woke him up, made him sit up and said: guess what! And showed him the test. It woke him up pretty fast and he was happy! Not romantic, I know...

I love hearing all the stories! Be it a big planned surprise or a quick moment of shock. It's just such a great moment.
    Thank you all for sharing.
I have a cookie kind of reveal planned, but different. Part of me wants to tell now and part says wait until it happens so I can say how he reacts. In the meantime I'll enjoy the stories from you all.
  • I got up with the toddlers.  After seeing pregnant on the test, I crawled back into bed woke him up and said you get to get up with the babies for the next nine months.  This will be our fifth, so not to cute but it worked.
  • With DS, I picked him up from a golf game and said I needed to go to Walmart. I parked in the "expectant mothers" spot and when he said "You can't park here", I said "Oh yes I can".

With our last baby (TW: Ended in MMC), I was so excited that I just waved the POAS in his face at 6am.

This time, I put up a sign that said "GUESS WHAT!!!" and put pink and blue bows on either side of it. I waited for him to get up to get ready for work and it was hanging in the hall. He didn't get it...lol

@mommac2017 I was going to do this parking spot thing but when he took the job in the other city I don't know anywhere that has those spots and I didn't want to have to think about it in a strange city.

I got some custom fortune cookies made that say something about baby coming in October. I don't know yet if I'm going to get take out and pull them out at the end or take him to a sit down and sneak them to the staff to bring us at the end.
  • We weren't trying and actually had a slip up followed by taking the morning after pill. 2 days before my period I got the hungover feeling like I had with my first, and heartburn, which I never get so after I got my son in bed, I went in the bathroom that no one else uses, took the test, and saw the very faint positive sign, went out and said to my husband, well I know why I have the heartburn, I wonder if it explains the other stuff that I've been having go on, I'm pregnant. And then sat down, and he sort of was just in shock, and asked if I was serious, if I was ok, if I was serious, and then just basically sat in stunned silence. Didn't redeem himself for a few days, and then he went and got a new job like I had been telling him to do since November because his job stank and had no benefits, and hopefully this one does, and he started on Monday, and he's been slowly trying to redeem himself with the basically none reaction.
  • My story is sort of sad but has a happy ending.

This was a surprise baby and my husband and I had been talking about having #2 for a while.  He was still very against another child and now that our son is two, I was itching for another baby.  When I found out, I called my husband hysterically crying and asked him to forgive me.  I told him it wasn't intentional and he asked me what was going on.  When I said I was pregnant, he just said OK.  Are you alright?  Do I need to come home?  It was so sweet.  I was worried he would be upset but he just wanted to make sure I was OK.  Later on he admitted that he knew he was going to say yes to another baby eventually, so I was worried for nothing!

@singing_lyn My ex was very much like that with my DD, but it sounds like your husband is working on making up for it which is great!
  • I had bought little baby shoes (eek! so cute!) months before, when we started TTC. When I finally got the positive, I had to wait an agonizing few hours for DH to get home. I had a cute gift box sitting on the table, which he of course ignored until I pointed it out. He knew immediately once he opened and saw the shoes, and was so excited. His reaction was probably more excited than mine!!

@jessirh That's so cute!!!! I've gone and looked at baby things to do something like that but I couldn't find the 'right' item. I honestly wish I could find a first Halloween something but I'd have to order off Etsy or something given the time of year.
  • My DH and I have been TTC for several months, so we'd gone through a fair number of pregnancy tests. My DH was headed to the store and since I was about four days late I asked him to pick up another test. He says that I traumatized him by making him walk down "that aisle" of the store. He was waiting outside the bathroom and when I showed him the BFP he said, "See? My boys DO work!"

  • I was hoping to plan a cute way to announce with this 2nd pregnancy using our toddler but this was a semi-accident and I sent DH to buy pee sticks. So he was giving DS a bath when I walked in and stuck the positive pee stick in his face and said OMG!

  • We went through fertility treatments so it kinda takes the surprise out of when everything happens but I tested positive 12dpiui so I knew two days sooner than he thought I'd know. The next day was Valentine's day so I had DS wear a big brother shirt and walk in and show DH. He cried. I melted. It was a great day.

  • These stories are so cute! Here goes mine! We had been talking about having another and somewhat trying since November 2016 (wasn't that long but felt like it!) I kept getting negative tests and was getting irritated so I stopped taking tests, I was late on my period but blamed it on stress but, one day I got up and decided to take a test, a very faint line showed so I tried not to get too excite then I took another and the same! I woke up DH and showed him but he told me to go to the Dr to make sure and to not get too excited, (too late!) I went to the Dr's the next day with DS and confirmed! We went to the mall and bought him a brother shirt and he had it on when we got home and had my DS come down to "help me" and he opened the door and read my sons top and got excited and hugged me! :)
  • Day before Valentines Day. I had been testing already and the lines kept getting darker. Our DD drew a card, and I wrote a little love note and included a test and signed it from Baby and I.

Gave it to him and he guessed before he even opened be freaking envelope.

Thank you all so much for sharing. I love reading these stories. I think I'm telling DH tomorrow but there's been a hiccup in my finances to travel to him so we shall see.
  • Those are really cute and great stories! I loved reading them! I'll be sharing mine too. It's not that cute but here goes. So me and DH has been TTC for a few months already. But after months of trying, numerous PTs, nothing. So we kinda just stopped trying. Then when I was 8 days late for my January period I didn't even consider being pregnant caise it's kinda normal for my period to always be a few days late. I just bought a kit so I could ease my mind. Did not expect to see it come back positive, I was so shocked that I called for DH, I pointed at the stick like I was scared of it! And he was so shocked, read the packaging of the kit to make sure he's reading it right. The he hugged me so tight, he lifted me up and showered me with kisses. It was such a beautiful moment.
  • With DD we were trying but I didn't think there was any way I could be pregnant. When I got my BFP I starting jumping up and down and running around with tears I was so happy. I then took a picture of the rest and sent it to DH while he was at work. Lol. He was thrilled but it wasn't very personal.

This time, I found out the day before Valentine's Day. I was determined to make it better then last time! I played it cool all day. Wrapped the test in tissue paper and put it in a bag and decorated it for V-Day. I left the gift on the table and when he came home from work, I told him DD and I had a early V-Day gift for him! He opened it up and was SO excited! I'm so glad I got to see his emotion and excitement this time around! =)
  • I found out a week before DH birthday. I was hoping so bad I'd have my sticky bean. It killed me to keep it secret from him for a whole week! But I had his birthday planned out and I took him to our favorite Chinese restaurant for dinner. I went in a few days before and told them if they could please write happy birthday daddy on his cake before bringing it out. We walked the boardwalk and talked about how nice it's going to be to one day have our child with us, before going to eat. (We have been trying for over a year to have a baby) when his cake came out he was looking at it confused and then looked at me and I was just smiling. He said "are you, are we?" And I said yes! And we both hugged and cried and then I showed him the test when we got home. He was so excited, I've never seen him like that!
  • I started peeing on sticks at DPO10 so way before my scheduled missed period. I had him help me interpret what I thought was initially a squinter, but ended up being a clear line!

  • My DH was on his way from work when I was getting ready to take a test. I delayed him by asking him to stop at the grocery store. It was positive, so when he got home I told him I had something to show him. He's excited and happy but nearly passed out in shock. This is our second, and both times I was told I would need medical intervention if we wanted to conceive! The shock wore off after a week. Haha.
  • @GenTK OMG! That's so super cute! I wish I could love your post a million times! That is so awesome!!! I love the fortune cookie! So happy for you!
